For us folk who have no access to these games can someone go into more detail? I am very interested to hear why Davies was so poor... not just read ratings and small snippets of how good or how shit they were.

From what I saw of the game, his passing was poor and when in possession he would lay the ball off backwards/sideways instead of either looking up or trying to run down the by line. Other than his arrival kicking Rose into gear, I'm mystified as to why we signed him as he's so bloody slow and offers very little going forward. At least Rose runs at the opposition and looks to be creative.

Amazing how he managed to see more ball than anyone on the pitch bar Fazio whilst maintaining his anonymity.

Just because you can't see it unless it's got a flag on it and it honks a big look at me horn, don't mean it's not there.
He gave it away numerous times though and keeping the ball is his strength no ? Find some stats for me because in 90 mins he was crap tonight

The pitch - looked like a 10 year olds birthday cake

Their fans - lots of noise, mind you they all need lots and lots of therapy..

Lloris - Yup, the one save that needed saving - 7

Davies - erm, pretty awful, hope its a blip - 4

Fazio - got us out of the shit 4 times in the fist half hour, proper defender material - 7

Verts - Looks like a partnership with Fazio will bring the best out of him - 7

Naughton - Done OK, not much wrong with his display 6

Stambouli - did lots, looked busy and probably ran more than most - looks ok - 6.5

Bentaleb - solid, confident, 19 and learning - 6.5

Lennon - ok but where is the pace? think he's looking a little over the hill 5.5

Townsend - Yes he runs with the ball, and he also looses it. He's a year older than Lamela and I keep thinking "he's only just got out of the youth set up, he'll learn".. his energy 6.5, his football 5

Paulino - Looked Ok for a bit then went on holiday - 5

Kane - Looked a bit average 5

All these rating have to be put against a nasty pitch and a proper fighting side who were not afraid to dive around. WE should beat them in the away leg and too be honest I enjoyed the game more than some Europa Spurs have played.

A game best out of the way

The whole team were playing like that and imo it's because they're being told too, not that they just do it.
I hate it and its doing my nut in. BORING.
Ps
Did they even have a bloody goalkeeper. You wouldn't have noticed.

I'm putting the performance down to the pitch as the ball was bobbling all over the place. Yet, it's still no excuse and we need to learn to perform/get a result on poorer pitches but to do that we need the right personnel... playing 2 wingers who can't run 5 yards or player a killer pass was pointless.

Just judging what i saw from this game.
I'm worried for him. He is a Brazillian international..he shouldn't be so low in the pecking order. Today he got to play in AM, what i think would have suited him. However the attacking unit looks laboured. I dont think it's raw pace/physqiue per se. I noticed he takes a long time to pick out players and by the time he made his mind up the defence has re-grouped, so he is forced to pass sideways. This isn't a good thing. You can't train your football brain at his age. And to be an AM for us you need brains.

I noticed this since Day 1 of him joining us but I kept quiet then. Never ever seen anything special about him. Not even in the confeds where he was 3rd best player of the tournament.

How many people said that about Carrick, and then Modric? He's young, still developing and showing a lot of composure and genuine ability. He's a disciplined player. I think he's a far more interesting prospect than any other central midfielder at the club.

I agree.

Personally I have nothing against Bentaleb and today I thought he was one of our better players. The Argument started when BC gave him MOM and others like myself said that there were others more deserving. There was no intent to discredit or put down Bentaleb, just conflicting opinions.

Why were they more deserving ? I am genuinely curious to hear you rationale.

Pretty meh across the board.

I have to say, I watched a fair amount of Swansea last season and I never once got the impression that Ben Davies was running in quicksand, but he seemed shockingly slow this match. It looked like he wasn't even trying. He's a smart young player who will need some time but it's surprising how physically limited he seems to be.

Said as much when we were looking to buy him and got slated on here. Why, I dont know, as I was stating the bleeding f****** obvious. My grandmother can run faster than the guy.

He is very ponderous. Has a lovely left foot however...if he ever gets in a position to deliver.

It took me until this game to notice. I think its less obvious in the PL because the action is so much faster and he played deeper. Theres probably an element of 'I only see what I want to see'. I think he had huge promise before; a great engine, can attack the ball etc. I think he may still have a place but now I see him fighting more against Chadli for the AM role.

Seriously, I don't get the Bentaleb hate from our fans in the offfical twitter and FB page
He is clearly one of the better players today, and my MOTM as well

A tough game. While the crowd egged their side on, the Only Fools and Horses inspired banner was awful racism predictably rearing its head again in Serbia. Will these clubs never learn and will EUFA ever get its act together to run these moronic fans out of the game?

An awful pitch and some poor individual performances from us in a game that rarely excited.

Lloris a 7 for doing what he needed to. I though the defensive three of Naughton, Fazio and Verts were good (7's all round). Davies was neither here or there. Showed his penchant for not wanting to cross the half way line and got turned a few times (5). Stambouli and Bentaleb were also effective like the back 3 mentioned previously(7's). The front axis looked lost. There were a number of players that didnt seem to show up on the night. I dont think that Paulinho was as abject as people make out but I would not give him more than a 6. Kane and Lennon struggled (5.5's) and Townsend looked the brightest and I thought had a particualrly good first half (6.5 overall) but the charley horse means he is a worry for WBA. Both Lamela and Soldado (6's) showed class when they came on before being dragged back into the vortex of nothingness that this game was turning out to be at that point.

A point is a point and I think it was a fair result. Stambouli MOM as he was most effective in his position.

Thought the defensive unit looked good but let down by Davies. Had a poor game but he's young, settling in and I'm sure will improve as the EL progresses.
Thought Kane had a pretty bad game, wasn't involved enough in first half (not necessarily his fault) but then in second half when was he caused breakdown in attacks number of times and looked so clumsy. He's raw but it's a little worrying if Poch sees him as 2nd choice ST. Stambouli looked promising and who out of Capoue and Dembele he'll take place of will be interesting.
Thought Paulinho had ok first half, some nice touches and looking to be involved. Second half he'd barely touched ball and understandably subbed. Still hoping and waiting to see him play a game with the likes of Lamela, Eriksen or Chadli as obviously playing with better players helps get best of a player.
This setup imo as it was today has major flaws currently. This inverted wingers with full backs who aren't getting forward is a nonsense and leads to barely any penetration. I don't think that trio behind Kane works at all. Lennon and Townsend are so ineffective considering their pace it's unreal. Don't think we should be looking at having both in team again.
I wouldn't mind having a three of Lennon Paulinho and Soldado off of Kane next game. Soldado came on and delivered a better ball than our wingers did all game. It'll add a much more threatening dynamic of Kane, Paulinho and Soldado adding goal threat but we must must get the full backs further up pitch, it's huge part of Poch philosophy and he can't have been happy with that.
Overall decent point on bad pitch against not an awful team. We'll improve as the competition progresses. One thing though, I really hope Poch just puts faith in rest of squad and leaves Lamela out of rest of group stage. He as it stands is the one player I feel we can desperately not cope without.

It was interesting how Poch moved Dembele up into the attacking 3 on Saturday when moving things around in the second half. That may reflect the fact that he realises his bench options for the 3 behind Ade are less useful than his bench options in centre mid.

Lloris - 7 not much to do

Naughton - 7 looked very comfortable

Fazio - 7 almost gifted a goal early, but looked composed from then on

Verts - 8 MOTM. Absolute class tonight

Davies - 5.5 looked very shaky all game long

Townsend - 7 best attacking player by a long shot, which is never a good thing

Stambouli - 7.5 Thought Nabil should've made way for Capoue

Nabil - 7 Nothing spectacular, nothing awful

Lennon - 6.5 better as the game wore on

Pauilinho - 5.5 invisible after 30 minutes. very disappointing as he was the linchpin of the attack

Kane - 6 pretty poor

Lamela - 6 did little in well over 30 minutes

Soldado - 5 poor

Capoue - 7 solid off the bench
