Far too much crack being smoked in SC lately!!

We played a below average side that hurt us down their right side in particular far too often and although we improved hugely in the second half we were still a team of powder puff wet farts!

It's going to be embarrassing against Chelsea and most likely against Everton too.

Reality!

Destination reached but we didn't exactly take the scenic route. Driver still fiddling about with GPS
but the fleet is getting sorted. Slowly. Manufacturers road test figures possibly a bit generous. Just pleased we got there.

Lloris..........6...Left in the garage mostly for the chauffeur to polish.
Naughton...6-...Family runabout. Does the job. New car ordered. Awaiting delivery.
Chiriches...7-....Fancy continental model. Not as reliable as a Ford but more exciting to drive.
Verts..........7....Reliable. Smooth running. Economy tuned.
Davies.......5+...Three reverse gears and only one forward. Won't catch on.
Stambouli...7....Could be a useful addition to the fleet. Check tank before setting out
Dembele,,,,,5....Going downhill with little sign of engine engaging. Scapheap beckons
Lennon......6....This one runs all day. Right hand models best.
Lamela.......7+..You want chrome and flash? This is the one for you. Surprisingly reliable mostly.
Soldado......6+..Looked amazing in the brochure. Awaiting delivery. Memo: check finish.

Kane...........Solid British workmanship, No frills but engine will never let you down.
Bentaleb.....Found in the back of the garage. Could be brought up to scratch again.
Winks..........If you did you missed him. A new generation of homegrown models awaiting delivery.

Lloris 7 usual brilliance
Naughton 7 worked are and got in a guy's face when he was through
Vlad 7 one of his best games for us. Really pleased for him.
Jan 7 composed
Davies 7 is guy had the pace on him for sure but solid otherwise
Lennon 7 still missing a yard of pace but good game
Stambouli 8. Him and soldado looked great together
Dembele 6 pretty quiet
Lamela 8 in everyone's faces. Amazing work rate
Soldado 8 Great game. Wish that goal had gone in

I couldn't remeber the 11th player. That's how effective Paulinho was. Give him a 6.

The bit about Paulinho was funny.

But not as funny as the bold bit.

I'm done with Dembele. Could be so good but just average performance after average performance. Could repeat his goal against Lyon regularly if he had a pair of bollocks. Not seen someone coast past players like him for a long time, but just loses the ability to do anything with it when he gets himself into good positions.

Soldado/Paulinho. Whatever.

Lennon had a decent-ish game, was expecting worse I have to admit.

Thought Chiriches played well enough, Naughton and Davies average. Naughton was actually ok defensively, but his ability in the opponents half is comical.

Stambouli was slower than I thought, but it's positive going forward that he's not a chump with the ball at his feet, neat finish when others in our team would have spooned it.

Lloris had a quiet game then made a brilliant save at the end.

Ditto. The only effective thing he did all night was trip a pitch invader. Whatever happened to that dynamic player who used to terrify the opposition?

You could predict very accurately what would happen each time he was on the ball: slow down, stop, turn in a circle, lose the ball.

I also don't understand how a player who started out as a striker is so incapable of playing the ball forward instead of sideways.

Jesus wept, how slow is Benjamin!!

Naughton like watching all those terrible right backs we’ve had from yesteryear.

Really hope Davies improves, nothing like the player I watched for Swansea yet

Good to see Lennon trying again

Great to see Bentaleb back. Did well when he came on after being out for about 8 weeks. Has been missed

Soldado - OMG

Lamela - I legged headless chicken for the most part. Runs around and tries though!!

We were much better 2nd half

The team is desperate for some firepower to help out the young boy Kane. Embarrassing and sad. Needs to be resolved in January

How can we only have 1 striker and he's stil a boy!!??

Lamela was all over their shit. Proper pressing and 100% for pretty much 90 mins. I loved it.

Yes and they are a Mickey mouse outfit with 1 point in the group!!!

A player with his transfer fee and undoubted ability should be doing even more. Should also be scoring against such a poor side too

1 decent effort, 2 or 3 very poor ones and ran in to trouble too often. Needs to improve or we’ve got problems

Forget the fee, remember he's 22 and adjusting to a new manager and League.
He's doing well imho.

You cannot forget the fee. maybe Chelsea and Man City can

He's not a kid anymore (23 in March) and he's been here a while now. Needs to have shown and given us more than he has so far IMO to become the player we all hoped we were buying

Really hope I am wrong but needs to show us more by the end of this season

All the fun of the Fair(s) Cup.

I like European competition, always have. It's the icing on the top of the football cake. It's always under floodlight, we wear our galacticos of Real Madrid kit. It has a different feel, a different agenda, you want to win, but you know it won't kill you if you don't, you view your opponent, usually, more with a romantic fascination (11 names ending in "ic") than the time weathered hatred you do for your regular English league opponent. Away trips are the most enjoyable part of football for me. New horizons, weird and wonderful stadia, strange languages, bemused waitresses, stroodles, bratworsts, tapas-es, goulashes and back in the day, banana dope cakes in the Leidseplain.

Despite UEFA's best efforts to completely ruin European competition for everyone but the uber teams, I still find myself loving it. So it was nice to make it to my first game of the season. And it didn't disappoint, but not always for the purest of footballing reasons.

The first pitch invader made us all chuckle, he was big jolly fucker who waddled on, took a cheeky selfie with Lamela and Jan then skidded around humorously, before going off to big applause. The second was less entertaining and by the third just a pain on the arse.

That seemed to set the tempo for the football. It was a pretty competent performance with moments of hilarity. There was the usual cacophony of wayward back flicks, dummies, side flicks and nonchalant passes when simple foot on ball, look up and pass would have been more useful, more boring maybe, but still more useful. Soldado finding more ways to not score than you would think possible and Chiriches turning out to be the white CB version of Timothy Atouba. Dembele keeps spinning in ever increasing circles - I'm expecting him one day to just keep spinning until he disappears into his own sink hole. And I think we got a glimpse of why Stambouli was signed, but also why he's perhaps not been played against opposition that can run.

I just don't understand why Lloris, Vertonghen and Lamela are being played for 90 minutes in a game like this ? Stupid. Why bring Soldado off and Kane on ? Is Davies currently our only fit LB ? then why play him as well ?

We dominated this game, and once we scored and they had to come out a little, we created some decent chances, that we contrived to fuck up in the most entertaining of ways.

Still not seeing much of the Pochettino "way".

Individual glory:

Lloris - quiet, quiet, quiet, BANG. Great save at the end.

Naughton - OK

Chiriches - Takes ball playing CBness to scary extremes. He's a very good footballer, but whenever he's on the ball my internal monologue is accompanied by the music to the keystone cops.

Vertonghen - Good

Davies - He's the John Major of LBness.

Dembele - Spin Forest, spin.

Stambouli - Good in the tackle and great to see him start the move and finish the goal, but seemed to wearing a Harry Potter invisibility parachute when running.

Lamela - Good game I thought, 70 passes, worked off the ball, made some good moves and his party piece at the end where he feinted past three guys and unleashed a wicked shot was probably the highlight of the game.

Paulinho - pffftt…

Lennon - Some decent moments, including a great piece of play that set up Soldado. But he's never very effective on the left.

Soldado - Movement was pretty good, got into two great situations. The gypsy curse on his scoring boots continues.

Stewards - Make our footballers look bright.

I want to see you get off the fence and share some thoughts JH. Ratings out of 10, or just give them a verbal tongue-lashing... Your call.
Damn you, @mpickard2087. Now I've had to go and watch the fucking thing properly.

Hugo Boss-7 Great stop towards the end

Individual Error-3 How in the name of Jesus is he still here? His attempted cross which sailed out of play summed up his Spurs career

Chiriches- 6 Tried to add some verticality to our game but threw in some Boris-Yeltsin-moments for good measure

Vertonghen- 6 Odds on to look like he's taken a horse tranquilizer come kick-off time on Sunday

Davies- 5 We could have fixed the problem in Africa with the money we spent on this guy

Gaddafi- 6 Tidy footballer, looks like he's still suffering from that encounter with the bayonet, however

Dembele- 6 Workmanlike

Paulinho- 3 Bungling idiot, shouldn't be allowed to get ahead of the ball

Lennon- 5.75 Made to look decent by the opposition, IMO,

Lamela- 7 Tenacity personified, deserved a goal

Loldado- 3 If he were a dog, you'd sort his barnet out before having him put down

Subs

Kane- 5 Clumsy

Bentaleb- 5 Great to see him back. Very rusty but has an air about him which suggests that his brain is connected to his feet
