If I recall correctly, it was an attempted cross as oppose to a shot on goal but I could be wrong

He air-kicked the cross, then blocked the shot to make up for the mistake. It's fine though, we needn't worry, it doesn't count as a chance for them.

So we can't count a chance created because it wasn't finished but you can count a shot from their guy from the edge of the box after Kaboul slices a clearance as a chance created ? If you can't count the chances created because the striker fucked them up then they created nothing at all because Mané fucked up his.

So even by your own narrow criteria we won the chances.

If, like @Blake Griffin you want to ignore everything that happens everywhere else on the pitch and just judge a game solely by chances created - and taken - in each box, then why bother buying a ticket to go watch a game ? You can see everything you think important on MOTD.

If its any consolation even Tony Gale said that we edged the game and deserved the 3 points.

Hitting the woodwork twice, Chadli through on goal twice (one of which was the best chance of the game), Vertonghen having a header cleared off the line?

The only chance they created was the Mane one from the Bertrand cross. The Mane chance which Lloris palmed wide was from a sliced Kaboul clearance, they didn't create it.

We were the better team, we should have won the game.

Erm we only hit the woodwork once from what I can remember. Also I only remember Chadli being through on goal once when he hit the post.

Their chances were when Kaboul sliced a clearance and Wanyama hit a good shot that Lloris did well to save and then the Mane chance that should have been the equaliser.

All in all a very tight affair with few clear cut chances but I would say we just edged it.

Great energy from all the team, we will win more than we lose playing that tempo.

Just a note...all four prem games yesterday were won by the home side when the away side had more possession of the ball...

This was one of the rare home games that I missed so I can't really comment specifically on the game.

A win against a team with six straight wins is a good result whichever way you spin it and most reports seem to suggest we deserved the result.

All I will say though is that you can debate what exactly constitutes a chance or not, but in general we are not creating nearly enough chances as a team so far this season. Of course this could be down to the fact it's early days with a new manager or the fact we simply don't have enough potency in an attacking sense throughout our squad.

It's a combination of the two imo and there's no doubt we have to improve our play significantly in the final third to be able to achieve anything this season ( top five finish or cup win etc).

It was a tight affair and we did just edge it, but I'm happy with that considering their form, our form and where we are in our development.

Our win was far more deserved than Liverpool's v them on day 1.

Lamela had a shot touched onto the post by their goalkeeper early on didn't he? Or was it just wide. My memory is flickering somewhat. I've only seen it live at the lane, no highlights. Even so, it was almost a goal.

Chadli was also put through down the right hand side but his shot was blocked was it not?

Anyway, we didn't maul them but we weren't lucky either. We were the better team against a good dude and deserved to win.

This seems like how we ask our loan striker to play nowadays though, Soldado didn't get in the box against Besiktas either.

Very true. Honestly hope it changes as it does feel like we're almost playing without a striker at times

I'll have to give my motm to Kaboul. Whilst his performance on the pitch wasn't the greatest there was a moment in the second half where we'd won a corner and Kaboul made a point of coming to our stand to spur the crowd on and make some more noise which was great to see and very captain like which gives him my vote.
For his play I'll go with Capoue. Glad he's got his chance this season

I thought Naughton was the best player before he went off and Capoue played well (bar a few poor passes) but i'll give it to Rose who kept being in the right place at the right time which is what you want from a defender. Naughton would have got it if he'd played the 90 for similar reasons (two particular well timed challenges/blocks)

1-0 against a team who have won 6 on the bounce and only conceeded 5 goals in 7 games is a very good result. It's clear we are still getting used to the tactics etc so wins against good teams in this transition period is a good thing.

I was a little unhappy with some of the criticism i heard around me for Dier. People seem to forget 1) he's very young 2) he's new to the country let alone the team 3) he is a CB not a RWB. The guy behind me in particular seemded to abuse him every time he didn't beat the fullback or whip in a perfect cross. Some of our fans need both a reality check and an education into thier own players sometimes. I think it didn't help that Naughton had a very good 30 minutes but even so.

Ade on the other hand, i cannot really argue didn't warrent some criticism - whilst i wouldn't shout it from the stands myself, he did have a poor game leading the line. His first touch and energy levels just werent there yesterday.

All in though very happy with the result and its not all doom and gloom as the press was already starting to make out.

What did Harry Kane do, who you say had a better game?

I think it would be appropriate to ask what Ade did?

Kane came on looked hungry, got on the ball however briefly with intent and purpose. It's my opinion that Ade had an awful game, and over 90 mins contributed very little. I don't like saying it, but this is the ratings thread, so I'm rating. My point was that as soon as match of the day finished out came the dislikes, which didn't come out before that was aired. commentators said he had a good game, gave a little feature and then out comes unproptionate disagreement. It just came to me that this might be a reason. Anyhow myself and 4 friends who went to the game, as well as 2 other friends sitting elsewhere all stated how ineffective Ade was, and how when the ball came to him he struggled to get hold of the ball under control. Its just my opinion.

I am a massive Kane fan, but i am also aware he didnt have a touch on Sunday so not sure how he was intent and purposeful on the ball.

we created two big chances all game and ade was heavily involved in both.
Yes he was involved in both chances and credit were it's due.
But he also fluffed a couple when put through by either mis controlling the ball or being off side.
All of our AM3 had shots on target, Ade had none.

SC script No. 144: For when our striker largely creates a goal, and is involved in our other great chance.

If said striker is Adebayor - He did nothing all game.
If said striker is Kane - Play Soldado.
If said striker is Soldado - Fap over it for the next 6 months.

We definitely edged the game and had we tucked away a second, Chadli's big chance, the game would of opened up more.

Yes they had a glorious chance to equalise with five minutes to go, but all in all it was game that wasn't really that open were space was at a bit of a premium.

On balance we definitely shaded it IMO. The move for the goal was superb, and the move for Chadli's chance.
