To be fair the amount of games you've clearly had it written and sitting waiting to hit the "post" button, followed by the opening comment being "will post ratings later"... ;)
And this is wrong because? I do prepare the thread as soon as I know the team playing, nothing wrong with that imo. I would think posters would like to give their input straight after games, therefore I thought I was providing an outlet. Just the same way @thinktank prepares "your team" thread for the next game. I took responsibility of this because I really love reading others' opinion of the game, especially when the adrenaline is still flowing. I honestly didn't think it was a problem but would gladly standown if someone else is prepared to do this thread timely.

I think we were visibly rattled after the first goal and while it took some time to regain our composure. Once we did we looked the better team by far despite a scrappy period later on it the game after the penalty miss.

This was a big pressure game - everyone around us having played and won the last few days. We actually showed a lot of character last night and i was impressed with some of the football we played.

Sissoko was MOTM by a long way.

First half was only player actually getting us anywhere instead of psssing backwards. Surprised anyone has slated his first half when he was the initiative for the entire team...

Keep up the great effort bulletspur. Im a fan. Im one of those who cant wait to do ratings and see other's opinions as well, and was quite surprised to not see the thread immediately after the match.

Vertonghen - Stupid booking, apart from that pretty good, showing a nasty streak at times as well. Nice.

I think Jan got booked on purpose. 90 minutes gone and we had won - he over-reacted to a challenge just enough to get booked and miss the Watford match and not risk missing Chelsea.

I also agree Sissoko was our best player in the first half. I watched with my eyes.

Not so sure of that... After the new year the bookings get reset. If he got booked at Watford he'd still be available for Chelsea. Petulance if you ask me

I agree with most that Sissoko was good but I have no idea how anyone can say that he was better than even Alli, let alone Eriksen, to be MotM.

Eriksen just about single handedly got us back into the game when we were under all sorts of pressure early on. His composure and ability to retain possession with clean touches, technique and vision when they were pressing changed the early pattern of the game. It was only when he dropped deeper and starting receiving and spreading the ball under pressure that we started to get back into it.

It was actually excellent management from Pochettino as well. That looked like a directive from the bench to get him to drop deeper to get that extra body in midfield when they were pressing and it paid dividends, but credit has to go to Eriksen as well as he was the only player on the pitch actually capable of making it happen.

Brutally bad start and first 10 mins followed by absolute dominance for basically the entire game. J-Rod did almost nothing. Whilst there's been a lot of jokes about Mike Dean, I can see why he gave the pen. Initial tug back was outside box but then as Redmond clipped Alli's ankle and fell on his legs, preventing a clean effort on goal, it appeared to be mostly inside the box. Equally the rule states that it has to be a genuine attempt to win the ball by last man to not be a red card which this wasn't. It still felt a bit harsh but I can see why Mike Dean did it.

We continue to show great character when going behind in games. It's pretty much been the hallmark of Poch's Spurs side and I was pleased with how dominant we became after that inital 10 mins. At 2-1 however, I felt we started to look a bit nervous and whilst we were still looking likely to get a 3rd goal, the penalty miss only added to the anxiety.

3 wins on the spin, no reason why it can't be 4 after Watford which will be the best possible motivation to fuck up Chelsea's win streak. We should also be back to full strength with Lamela and Toby back fit and Walker and JV back from suspension. If there's a chance to add someone in January window then great, if not then I feel like we're well placed to make a solid run at finishing top 4.

Ratings:

Lloris - 7 - Not his best work, particularly poor distribtution at times which had us faffing about at the back too often. That said he was very strong on crosses I thought with some good solid punches and a couple of really good catches under pressure.

Walker - 7 - Mixed bag from Kyle. Got forward as he always does but final ball wasn't there this time. Defended pretty well but was also a bit sloppy in possession. Be interesting to see how Trippier plays vs Watford.

Dier - 7.5 - Solid, better than he has been in recent weeks.

Vertonghen - 7 - Equally solid after his initial weak challenge on VVD for their goal. His booking was incredibly stupid and needless when the game was won. Shane Long is there to be a pain in the ass so there's no need to rise to it.

Rose - 9 - Superb. Can't recall any bad work from him and his runs forward infield were brilliant culminating in the superb assist for Alli.

Wanyama - 8 - Started like a nutter, trying way too hard and making some sloppy challenges. That said he grew into the game really well and dominated Saints midfield. Davis and JWP were virtually non-existent.

Dembele - 7.5 - Good. Tried to drive us forward in the first half and went past players with ease as is common with him. Tidy work without any particularly outstanding.

Alli - 9 - Certainly more in line with what I would expect from him and clearly his best performance of the season. I like him better off the left than having Eriksen there and thats where he popped up for his 2nd goal. The 1st goal though was massively important as it was very much against the run of play and testament to Alli's eye for an opportunity. Beating VVD in the air was also no mean feat. Hopefully he can start being more consistent than he has been thus far this season.

Eriksen - 9 - I didnt appreciate the back flick to nobody when Sissoko was free on the overlap but besides that I thought he was excellent. Metronomic with his passing, positive and active all over the pitch. Struck his shot almost too well when he hit the bar and just generally doing exactly what you want from an AMC. MOTM.

Sissoko - 8 - Didnt love what I saw in first 25 mins. Not a winger in my opinion and look a bit stuttery and devoid of ideas when he got it from Walker. That said he grafted in that half and made an excellent recovery tackle back in the RB spot. Second half he had switched to the left initially and seemed more narrow which ultimately led to break out, strong running and excellent pass to Alli for the pen. He's looking better with every passing game and at the very least can be a strong contributor for us in future if he keeps it up.

Kane - 7 - Tricky one. Largely anonymous for the first half and still not exactly his usual involved self in the 2nd half but a genuinely brilliant header for the lead and super unlucky on the pen. Incidentally that pissed me off big time. It wasn't a factor in the end but it's unacceptable that a penalty spot be in that shit state at this level. Not cool from Saints. We'd all like to see him more involved but lets face it, he's there to score and he does that in his sleep.

Son - 7.5 - Came on and did EXACTLY what Poch would've wanted him to do in respect of finding space out wide and getting a run at the Saints defence. Took his goal superbly. Did nothing else besides but who cares right.

Winks - Net - nothing much to do but tidy when he had to do it, obviously.

Janssen - Net - no time to make an impact.

It was silly we loose walker and verts next game, hopefully Toby will be back. Thought verts goal a side was very good.

We were very good last night, Southampton are a good side side and first 15 min a side we looked very good. We have only just started to find form and hopefully Toby will be back soon.

Sort it out BC, can't view the attachment on my trumpet.

Was a good game to go to although we didn't celebrate the first two goals properly as Alli's we couldn't be sure straightaway if it'd gone in and Kane's took us by surprise.

I thought we were sloppy and a bit complacent after they went down to 10 men, only when the third went in was it comfortable and that was with 5 minutes left.

I agree completely on the bumble twins btw - as they showed tonight they're also capable of changing games by banging in goals or doing something sublime (I appreciate you acknowledge this already). Alli in his defence doesn't hide from the ball and his movement off it to offer himself to the player in possession is amongst the best we've got - his mentality is rare, not just for players his age and it's his biggest asset because technically he's capable of both ends of the spectrum and this season it's been at the wrong end too often. Son also has huge redeeming features, in his energy and pace and although his step over is ALWAYS the same he does it well. Good finisher too and good mentality. One day they'll both simultaneously have non bumbling blinders and we'll beat someone 8 0.

Eriksen is a class act of composure, vision, intelligence and technical ability and I'd like to see Winks more as he's on the same pass and move wavelength.
Some of our players (full backs especially guilty) run the ball 20 yards in their own half instead of playing the pass 20 yards quickly and then making the run off the ball. That said I liked the fact we popped the ball about around their box more tonight first half, didn't panic, and came back round the pitch to start again if the initial opening was closed down. Playing this way creates psychological pressure on the opposition and openings appear, especially wide - all the best teams over the years have shown this patience when the bus is parked and thankfully despite the screaming twat behind me tonight telling them to 'get it in there' every 10 seconds they couldn't hear him and didn't.

I think we'll be right in the race until the end and we've not hit our peak yet - the second half of the season looks easier on paper than the first so with some luck on the injury front we could displace any of Arsenal, Liverpool or City in the top 4.

I said in the match thread, I think Alli is a talented boy, who also has the gift of timing and character. And he is only 20, so has time to add some composure and consistency to the rest of his game, but if he's going to be the player he promises to be, he does need to add those qualities, because top teams and managers won't tolerate week after week of what we have seen first half of this season as their rosters are chocked full of players who will produce but not fritter away possession 35% of the time as well. I also think he needs to find a proper role on the pitch, and 4231 doesn't really allow that. That's not his fault.

* Also corrected the Eriksen first half touch map.

Southampton are a good side and were bound to have a strong spell at some point - it just so happened it was the first ten minutes. They were lifted by the goal - and was it just me, or did that look nailed-on the moment the free kick was lined up - then proceeded to run us ragged and were full of invention and confidence. Which makes our subsequent dominance of the match all the more impressive.

There were a lot of good performances: Wanyama, Rose, Eriksen, Dele all notable, but as pleasingly-usual it was the absence of poor performances and the effective team work rate that won the day. There was no hundred mile an hour high energy press, more a relentless suffocation of the opposition. I can´t recall them creating a chance in open play.

My three moments of the match:
- Dembele´s edge of the area reverse pass to set up the crucial first goal. More of this please. (And less of the "whoops, not concentrating" side-foot give aways centre pitch...)
- Sissoko´s perfectly, yes perfectly, weighted pass that led to the penalty. Much discussion about whether it was or wasn´t a foul, was in or out of the area etc - but the pass was good enough to leave Redmond with an impossible task.
- (My favourite) The way Eriksen lets the ball roll past hime before firing off the pass for Son´s goal. One of the most under rated skills in football - never take three touches where two would do; never take two where one would do. Just get the ball where it needs to go as fast as you can. That exactly what Eriksen did. Sure, he may possibly have been lucky with the deflection, but that is exactly the type of luck this kind of pass buys.

Come on guys, @Bulletspur provides a valuable service. It's not glamorous but it is vital. He is the Deschamps, or Wanyama if you like, of Spurs Chat. Why an earth is anyone getting pissy with him ?

3rd best passing accuracy on the season (88%) and far and way the most successful passes completed due to Dembele's absences. He really has been the metronome for us for the first half of the season.

Do you have stats on the number of times he passes the ball and doesn't find space ? Or misses an easy way to get an overlap / find space ?

No I thought not

He's a good player and physically a beast and he does 80% very very well. And he was an absolutely great signing for £11m to fill such an gaping hole for backup at DM. But sorry he just doesn't quite give as much going forward and in possession as you would want and when we struggle to break teams down it is one of the obvious reasons (as is absence of Lamela, form of Kane and, until recently, Alli and Ericson). No amount of reproducing 5-yard pass stats and putting your hands over your ears will make that go away

As a final point, I do think he is starting to look more and more comfortable on the ball and showing individual skill so keep that up Victor and see if you can hold down the place when Toby is back and completely fit and therefore Dier is at a loose end

Good to see people debating over who was MOM, there were a lot of good performances.

Whilst I agree that Wanyma, Sissoko and Eriksen played very well, I would give it to Dele. Two goals, the first one which really changed the tide of the game. His stats are incredible for a young player only playing his second season in the PL.

Agree, but surely it's a vocal but tiny minority of whiners. Besides, this is my favourite thread immediately after a game for a bundle of reasons.

I thought, although we lined up in a similar formation to usual, we had a lot more movement this game, and it paid off for us. After a very tricky start where Southampton wouldn't give us space, they then sat back and put men behind the ball, which has been something we struggle to break down. Eriksen was moving around so much more than usual, dropping deeper to connect the passes and keeping us fluid, and as a result we pulled them out of position and reaped the benefits. He was instrumental to the win, with a fantastic pass for Son's goal and very unlucky not to score himself, so he has my MOTM.

I thought that some of the touches and passes that Sissoko played really helped make us more dynamic too, and the through ball for the penalty was excellent. Sissoko was all over the place when I saw him at Wembley against Leverkusen but he has talent and ability and to his credit he really seems to be settling down and making an impact on the team - we were better for having him yesterday. Alli and Wanyama also played extremely well, and Son got a very well-taken goal, but I think Van Dijk and Fonte did a great job nullifying Kane. Credit to Pochettino for working out a tactic that could still get a good performance and create chances against a stubborn, well-drilled defence - even a few months ago I think that game might have drifted into a draw. We have a smart manager who learns and adapts his team, and our attacking movement is really starting to improve. When Lamela is back we will have a lot of good options for an unpredictable AM3, although I still think we could do with one more, but finding one good enough that will come will be a challenge.
