Have to say I was hugely impressed with that performance from Lamela.

Won't be long before this lad truly takes off. His touch, vision, and work rate were top notch today.

Dembele was instrumental to our dominance, drove us forward. Much, much better showing from him.

Chadli is developing that great habit of popping up in the right spaces at the right time.

Those three were definitely the pick of the bunch but I'm giving my MOTM to Lamela. The most determined player out there and always looking to win the ball back and some of his touches were just beautiful.

In terms of the game I thought it was an excellent performance overall. The two goals we conceded were about as ugly as they come. Johnson did well to engineer a bit of space for a shot but it was a scruffy sort of attempt which took a deflection - that's what beat Lloris, you see it so often. The second was just a lack of concentration, so avoidable.

That said we should of had at least 4/5 goals today. Adebayor should of had at least one, we had two decent penalty shouts, twice struck the woodwork and there were several other promising attacks that should of came to more, or at least a few of them anyway.

This game has a habit of punishing you if you fail to punish the opposition when you should do - and that's what happened today. Poyet looked absolutely delighted with the point - which is normally a pretty strong indication of how the game played out.

All that said, whilst the result was disappointing the performance certainly wasn't. Yes there are plenty of things to be improved on but we're seeing progression and Poch's style coming out more and more. We're still well in the early stages of development but that really excited me today.

The fluidity of some of the moves we put together were as good as I've seen. I would love to see Soldado given a go behind that three, Christ knows how many he'd score if his confidence was flowing. Sort of game today were he could of helped himself.

Maybe I'm taking an unambitious view of things but for me the pressure is off this season and I just want to see some growth and improvement in our playstyle. Based on the evidence so far, I'm really hoping this manager is given a solid chance. We could spend 100m and still be outsiders for 4th, so this early in the season I'm looking at the quality of the performance as much as I'm looking at the result.

Loved the way we played today. We still lack a goalscorer, but we're creating chances systematically and not just through individual brilliance. Our movement and ambition going forward is miles ahead of where it was last season under either manager.

Two shitty goals to concede. I feel for Dier as he's been brilliant 1v1 90% of the time but the two times he's fucked up he's been punished harshly. Not to say he was alone at fault for the first goal.

Don't think anyone was really awful today. Dembele looked as good as he's looked in two years which is an incredibly encouraging sign. Loved our attacking midfield again. Eriksen in the first half was absolutely brilliant and should have had three assists probably.

I will echo the calls for Soldado. We need a goalscorer more than we need Adebayor dropping deep. I know Roberto hasn't been a goalscorer for us yet, but the history is there.

No Eriksen in your running for MOTM Pinkerton ?

Yeah it was his best performance of the season so far, easily.

I'd have him in contention - should of mentioned him initially, but still opting for Lamela.

One thing I did notice is the amount of passes exchanged between Lamela and Eriksen, looked a huge amount, would be an interesting stat!

One of the reasons why I'm so excited for the future. The more they and the rest of the team build up an understanding in Poch's style, the more of that fluid football we'll see. And we saw a bit of it today.

From Lamela to Eriksen 11 = 3rd (From Dembele 14, Capoue 13, Rose 11)

From Eriksen to Lamela 14 2nd (Capoue 15)

What's also nice to see is that Capoue and Dembele made more passes to Eriksen than they did to anyone else. This demonstrates a couple of things. That our CM's are clearly looking to play the ball forward and get Eriksen on the ball. That Eriksen is doing exactly what he should be doing, which is looking to give the CM's an out ball, trying to get on the ball as much as possible and making things happen in the final third.

Just got back, very long day.

Browsed this thread ever so quickly, I think I might go against the grain a lot with these quick thoughts before I collapse from exhaustion...

For a lot of that game very comfortable, for a lot of that game though I don't think we tested them enough. A lot of the ball, not quite enough chances created in my opinion and a lot of the ball in front of them.

Without the ball I still think we need to be better. I mean collectively. Individuals are working hard to win the ball back when its in their immediate vicinity but as a team I think our pressing game hasn't got off the ground yet. Sitting on the halfway line I also got a perfect viewpoint of one of the things that still afflicts our game to a great extent - too many players standing still when we have the ball. We need to stretch the opposition more and pose questions of them. A very definite work in progress.

As for the general flow of the game, we were extremely comfortable and held them at arms length. I think we deserved to win but after going 2-1 up, and particularly when the Chadli sub was made, I did get the impression we were strolling it a little bit and were trying to see the game out. Ade was gassed early in the second half and should have been hooked much earlier, Lamela on the left didn't work, and Dembele stationed further forward went out of the game totally. Eriksen, though involved and I see getting a lot of plaudits, was a bit flimsy throughout in my opinion despite a couple of moments of quality.

I do expect to see Eriksen or Lamela dominating a match soon, I do feel they are a bit on the periphery of games showing glimpses of quality rather than actually being centre stage and having substantial impact (and yes, I'm well aware one hit the bar and another scrambled home). We need someone to step up and really drive the team on and orchestrate play.

Individually I though most were fine but no outstanding performances. Ade didn't get started second. Dier is showing he isn't ready to play every week, certainly not at RB, and Chiriches at times looked nervy but grew into the game. I liked the look of Stambouli when he came on, tenacious little fucker. Not afraid to put his foot in and someone who was popping up everywhere with and without the ball.

On the whole it wasn't bad, but very obviously a work in progress. Individually we are seeing glimpses of promise but none of this really knitted together and the collective needs a lot of hard work over the coming months.

I think that's a pretty harsh assessment.

Whilst I agree we could/should of created more in terms of real clear cut opportunities given the absolute dominance we afforded ourselves, we still created more than enough to win this game comfortably.

To control and dominate a game to such an extent, away from home, is extremely encouraging and some of the football we played was actually very easy on the eye, fluid with plenty of attractive interchanges.

A work in progress that took another clear step forward today - IMHO, albeit still early days and all that gaff.

Where the hell are people getting the idea that Dier is a better RB than Naughton??? I mean seriously, Dier isn't even a RB? I like him and think he has a big future but don't get ahead of yourselves and let your biases cloud everything.

Dier has been done by Remy (when Zamora came on and Remy pushed wide), all 4 of Liverpool's attackers, and today Johnson/Buckley repeatedly.

Naughton finally got a run of games for us last season and did excellent vs Konoplyanka, Redmond, Schurrle, Cazorla, and JRod, to name a few. He was brilliant for us in the 2nd half of last season but because it's Naughton everyone has forgetten, he's back to being shite, and Dier is the new Cafu because he's scored twice.

Naughton was arguably the most consistent player under Sherwood, tbh. He wasn't spectacular but provided dependable, better than good, performances. I think he is a fine back-up. If Walker's injury is more serious.. I'm not sure if I would want him as the long term RB. But for now, he should be playing over Dier (fine player, just out of position) easily.

Dier clearly struggles when isolated with any players that have quick feet. Same thing happens to Jan when he plays LB. The only CB that I know of who is just as good as an outside back is probably Ivanovic.

I thought Dier's mistake for the first goal was rooted in the penalty he gave away v Liverpool. He seemed to seize up when Johnson got into the box, afraid to make a firm challenge.

The penalty against Liverpool was a clear dive, in typical Liverpool fashion. This could've happened to any self-respecting defender.

Thank you.

Can't watch the games so rely on people like you.

I'm off now to read Paul Smith's report on Spurs Odyssey. Always a good read too.

Well done.

frigging spurs, again finding a way to squander points against inferior opposition. thought Dier was clearly fouled for a pen, but what are you going to do?

Lloris - 6 not much to do, and maybe could've done better with the first.

Rose - 7 did well enough

Kaboul - 7 same

Chiriches - 6.5 scared the crap out of me but got better as the game went along

Dier - 6 abused for Johnson's goal

Capoue - 7 no nonsense DM

Dembele - 7.5 I like Nabil but please no more starting Nabil over Moussa

Ericksen - 7 fun to watch, weakest tackler Ive seen since I dont know when

Chadli - 7.25 always a threat

Lamela - 7 great individual skill, still not clicking with his team completely

Adebayor - 6 lots of effort, little else

Eriksen looked like a different player ...we know how good he can be with the ball, but his workrate without the ball was the difference.
Lamela just needs a break, he gave everything....just needs to be a little calmer and focussed , he wants to do well so much its almost the problem, but he is getting better and better.
Dembele was my MOM, he just ran the game for long periods.
Chadli is showing signs of being a good signing, and he is actually showing passion now ..
Ade..we failed to buy a decent striker and are paying for it .
Capoue..i think was good on the ball, but abit lacking without it at times.
Dier ..strong but looks like a fish out of water at RB
kaboul, better, but still makes me nervous.
Chirches ..just makes me nervous
Rose...he is not as bad as people on here make out, just needs to use his head more.

Gutted we never won, still wondering how that happened, but can definately see Poch's stlye coming through ,still a few players needed to get where we want to be though....Striker for sure,

He probably could have kept going but Dier blatantly pulled him back and you can't fault the ref for calling it, it was very inexperienced defending and had it been the other way around I'm not sure you'd see it that way.

Agree with general drift here ,I won't repeat ad nausem . We were pretty good and should have won the game, we didn't have the luck . Coupla thoughts

Dier (6) looks a tad wobbly vs someone with quick feet . Eriksen (7.5) had his best game this season so far . He was saying that he was out of form after the recent Danish International which was right...saw there was a prob and put it right .

The old absence makes the heart grow fonder football fan cliche seems to be operating here imo . Lot of calls for Soldado
as if that's a real answer . Try him from subs bench OK but don't ignore his poor history with us just because we haven't seen him for a while . Ade (6) did have a hand in our goals . Wish he'd be in the box a bit more tho . Kane (5.5) anonymous .
Dembo (8) Mom

I'm sure everyone has noted that Pool lost yesterday , great . Soton almost had them in Pool's last home game....yet we get smashed out of the park at home by them . We all love Spurs to play exciting attacking football...but the sensible impenetrable defensive minded setup seems to be a note missing from our repertoire . I'd like Poch mebbe to acknowledge the bigger teams should be shut out with more emphasis on defence ,play a more cautious way . The gung ho approach simply doesn't seem to be working vs the bigger teams imo and is going to cost us points . I'm not looking forward to being thrashed by City/Chelsea are you ?

The problem against Liverpool was totally mental IMO. Still fragile from the big hammerings last season against the better sides.

There was no intensity to our play really.

We need a result against one of the better sides sooner rather than later for the belief to increase IMO.
