If you play a player after a bad performance that can be seen as rewarding him, whether that is consciously your intention or not.

No-one said it couldn't.

If you had replied to ELY's post that you hoped that was the case and then said it can also be interpreted the way you have given above and that you hoped it wasn't that there wouldn't have been this issue. Of course, going against the interpretation you are slanting it towards, and pointing towards the one ELY originally gave is that fact that he didn't play elements of the team individually while leaving others out, but instead played the whole team as started at Wembley. That is why ELY specifically emphasised that he played the same team as a unitary whole and then interpreted the most likely reason for this. And I agree with that, I don't see anything to suggest that he sat with the Wembley team sheet, name by name, and got to exactly the same team (intentionally or not). He didn't leave anyone at all out - if he had, your contention would have been a possible explanation, as would the possibility that some of the players looked really fatigued, or that some of those who started at Wembley had looked awesome in training, even if they had been poor in the final, and that some had been left out even though they were good in the final because they had been slacking in training. But I really don't think that is the case.

But most of all, the problem isn't with what you wanted to say, but the way in which you used ELY's post to say it.

You don't think he wanted to let Davies have abit of time against the team he was with since he was a kid, and after missing out on the final?

That's ridiculous, there is way too much at stake here to be indulging players sentimental wishes. I don't believe the sub was made for that reason and if it was it's stupid.

I want a manager who can extract 100% out of players every game they play, not have to juggle them around based on whether they are more in the mood for one opponent or another.

Where the fuck did i say he was indulging players sentimental wishes..?

Let me spell out to you AGAIN....read it slowly...

Poch may have told Townsend he was poor , but for reasons he knows best, better than you for sure, played him....and might dispell your fears that Townsend might have thought he was be rewarded for being poor.

For the record, i don't rate Townsend and Chadli is too hot or freezing for my liking....anyway i give up..

Players can be fragile critters. Look at Yaya Toure - playing for the richest club in the World, paying astronomical wages, making him even more of a multi-millionaire than he already was. Didn't stop him acting like a gurney big cry baby because he didn't get a birthday cake. And then there was the case of Gareth Bale and his curse - we may all think it was BS and someone should have just told him to get out and play like we knew he could, but it clearly affected the lad, making it necessary to wait until we had a stroll of a finish to a match just so he could finish in a match winning team.

Extracting 100% out of players for every game doesn't exclude understanding the nuances of mood in players.

I was referring more to your theory on Davies.

Your not moving the goalposts are you?..:sneaky:..:)

So he gave Davies abit of time against the team he grew up with when we were cruising 3-1 with the clock ticking....crime of the century ,sack Poch .

Not that it makes a difference with his decision to put him on, but the goal your referring to Davies tracked back his man and Siggy was spare behind him, not totally Davies error imo....but thats not the issue here, do we say Verts shouldn't play for his error. or any other player if they made an 'error' that led to a goal...thats ridiculas.

And for the record...i'm not a big fan of Davies.

Hence me saying "I don't believe the sub was made for that reason but if it was it was stupid".

3-1 is hardly romping and as it turned out it definitely wasn't a romp.

I really enjoy reading @Bus-Conductor's opinions and his tactical autopsies, but sometimes it does appear as though he very much views this game as overly analogous to chess. Entirely about tactics about technical ability, while leaving out the human components of psychology and physicality.

Sorry guy, but the game at this level is overwhelmingly about mentality. For instance, I'm sure Poch planned to play Lamela in Italy because he's been struggling for confidence and an old and familiar ground to him may have been deemed beneficial. Townsend and Chadli could have used the pickups to turn our season around, and so Swansea's shaky fullbacks with their lack of genuine defensive midfielders was a good situation for our two wingers to have at; and lo, it worked. I agree that neither of them had great games from the wings, but they scored goals and goals pick heads up.

For this upcoming weekend though, I do think your lineup should be utilized, if for no other reason for the sake of freshness. But I think Poch called it correctly in this one, and if not for Siggurdson's quality positioning and finishing, I don't think there would be any genuine reason to criticize the sub decisions.

Lloris............7...... +1 for the save.-1 for the first goal. That's.... er..7 then.
Walker..........6+.......Is he improving? I find it hard to judge he's so erratic.
Dier..............7+.......Brain fart disease hasn't reached him yet. Increasingly reliable.
Vertonghen...6+......Just put 'not' at the end of Diers coment and repeat for Jan.
Rose.............8........Gonna have to find another hate figure. The boy's playing well.
Mason...........8........Fine goal. Showed spirit and energy and ability.
Benteleb........7+..... Hard to separate him and Mason. Ryan's goal edges it.
Eriksen..........8.........At the heart of everything good when it mattered. Love him.
Chadli............7........More involved and a well taken goal.
Kane..............6+......Running on empty but still running.
Townsend.......6+......Super goal.Pace put to effective use.Still hate figure numero uno.

A game we needed to win with everyone above us winning. And we did by a bigger margin than scoreline suggests. Another clean sheet: not.
