I also rate Lerner at Villa, the fact he can afford to have a charity as a sponsor shows how much money he has, he is a billionaire after all. He has already said if MON wanted £30mill for a player then he would get it. However MON is a quality manager that is building a good mainly British TEAM, and doesn't just want to sign a bunch of individuals which is what we seem to have accumulated this summer. If/when were are sold i hope it is to a guy like Lerner and not a Shinawatra/Ashley/Gillet & Hicks. That is always the risk in the current market though

has anyone mentioned who we would sell too? i was under the impression, put me straight if i'm wrong, that we would not be sold to foreign investors especially being jewish owned.
What does being Jewish owed have to do with selling to foriegn investors?

Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Daniel Levy a Spurs fan? And if he was only interested in what he can get out of Spurs, then why would he spend so much money in the transfer window? Surely he would just pocket the money from the sale of Carrick, Keane and Berbatov and keep spending less than what we spent on Rebrov several years back. I mean, why would he break the record transfer fee at the club on Darren Bent for example.
Dude, I'm a Spurs fan as well but I know that if I owned the club and someone came along and offered to buy, making me four times richer in the process, I'd settle for a healthy bank balance and a season ticket.

Yeah i know, i'm not saying he wont sell  Just that he always does whats best for the Club. He isn't only interested in what he makes out of the Club as seems to have been suggested. Otherwise, why would he sack several managers for not taking us forward? Why not just settle for mid-table and continue selling our best players at a profit? He could have easily kept Martin Jol if that were the case. Especially as changing managers cost money. Not to mention the wages for the new Manager aswell.

normally they like to keep in the family, have done for a long time.
Believe me, when it comes to making a shitload of money they make an exception. Plus, Sugar and Levy may have both been jewish but I reallyu think the days of the club being institutionally jewish are long gone.

Well this, I suppose, is an area for big debate. If he does indeed do what he thinks is right for the club is doesn't always mean he is actually knows what is right for the club. Perhaps one day he will take the view that he himself hasn't got what it takes and someone else would do better.

Indeed... Lerner is regularly seen at youth/reserve games, and genuinely loves the club... he's regarded as god by the Villa faithful... and the fact he took over from Doug friggin Ellis only helped his cause!

I quite like Villa... Eek

How could you not like them?

Likeable, fantastic coach
Young, talented English players
Play good football

The only downside is Nigel Reo-Mediocre and a joke of an away section where you can't sling a cat inside the stands.

We need to be taken over. It's the only way we can even begin to think about cracking the big four. We now (possibly) have Everton, Portsmouth, Man City and Aston Villa ahead of us. Three of those clubs have new, foreign investors.

We may miss out of Levy's business-like tactics but we want someone who will give us the money when the manager wants it. We didn't pay an extra £2m for Arshavin - barely anything in today's football world - and look at the consequences. We now have a European cup-tied striker and are left with a man who has cost more than £1m per goal and a man who has played around about two combined games of Premiership football, if that.

We won't win things and progress like that. We need people that will lay down the gauntlet with business and be willing to rival the bigger teams for the signiture of a player.

I respect everything Levy and ENIC have done for us, we were far worse of then than we are now. They were dark days before they came in, Graham as manager and he sold out best player at a cut price £3m. We were going no where and could only look forward to and hope for a top 10 finish. They attracted players we needed to succeed and did so with two 5th place finishes, our best in over 10 years, and the League Cup.

I think now is the time they need to pack it in. They've done everything they can for us as a football club.

maybe i'm old fashioned but i have turned my nose up at other clubs being sold to foreign investors and i feel the same with tottenham. we have had a bad start to the season, not a great transfer window but they are not going to wave a magic wand and hey presto.
we have a cracking stadium, great support a good manager and all we need now are some calm heads and points on the board. throwing money around is not the answer.

I have read - and some may remember posted on here - previous posts by Devonian.
The problem I have is that the above post completely contradicts everything he said in those other very long winded posts. Previously he stated how well everything was going, how much Spurs was a labour of love for Levy. These previous posts weren't all that long ago, I'll try and find them.

I find alot of the above thread very tenuous. Arsenal don't have a director of football and yet they have one of these so called partnerships (as per the connection with the african acadamy) which was shown to be very dubious.

Chelsea do have Arnesen but still pay through the nose (how many millions did Mikel cost them in the end).

So if Comolli isn't working why not just replace him. I think these so called partnerships are pretty non existant unless you can persuade the government to relax immigration law.

Other than arsenal who in the premiership is benefiting from these "partnerships" over and above the way we are ?

And why did they appoint Tony Winterbottom, formerly of the London Development Authority who played a major role in the development of Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, Paul Phillips, a project manager at Emirates, high-powered architect Ken Shuttleworth, who was formerly the right-hand man of Norman Foster, to name but three people.

These would not come cheap - admittedly cheaper than actually building a new stadium, but still not cheap.

Not to mention that if Levy gave deliberately false information out about the stadium there would be serious stock exchange consequences.

Maybe I did them a diservice and was mistaken when assuming their intentions were not authentic .

Still don't think they could have taken such a project to completion , it takes more than bringing in the right people .

The professionals over at Arsenal only just pulled it off and have a hang over from it .

Wait, was he the same guy? They are completely contradictory if so. The post I remember from early in the summer went along the lines of Levy is in it for the long haul, to improve Spurs financially and as a team and that he knew Levy personally etc. He also went to great lengths to laud our wage policy, using stats to support it.

If it is the same person, then he has had a bit of an attitude overhaul.

Maybe we'll never know if they could have done, though they have bought up the majority of the land around the stadium, they have had discussions with Haringay, TfL and the other parties.

I think it is a healthy debate to have whether anything Enic have done they were competent enough to do, but I do believe that they were always true to their intentions. Obvioulsy there's a separate debate as to whether their intentions were always aligned to those of THFC.
