Real Madrid to make last-gasp £60m transfer bid for Eriksen

Personally, I don't think MR will go after Erickson this summer.
Erickson has said his preferred destination is MR. Even if other clubs were to bid for him, Erickson doesn't seem to be tempted. So why not just wait for 10 months and get him for free. (He can sign a pre-contract in Jan.) I think this is in both Erickson's and RM's line of reasoning. Besides Modric is still doing well at Madrid.
Which is bad for us in financial terms, but the player has a right to choose his destiny, just like the rest of us. He pays a price too, because he could have doubled his wages for over a year now, if he had re-signed for us. But we have to respect his decision to control his life.

I am sure Erickson, won't go to MR (whoever the hell they may be)
Eriksen on the other hand may go to RM

If Eriksen thinks £60m is a reasonable fee, then he will demand to be released.
If we say no, then he will think we have been unreasonable and there is no chance he'll sign another contract, whatever release clauses it has.

So is it a fair amount? He is no Hazard, but is he worth only half a Hazard?

Its an overstatement to say he won us 3 points against Villa as he was not involved in the goals but the game did change when he came on and myself along with others believe it was more to a formation change that the game was altered to what went on earlier.

I'd take 60m in a heartbeat. One way or another, I think he'll go. If he signed a new contract there'd be a release clause and we'd still be living under the shadow of 'what will we do without Eriksen?' I'd be inclined to get on with it now and invest some of the 60m in buying out Dybala's image rights. Onwards and upwards.
Odd one this.

The £60m you’d take will benefit the club’s finances, reduce the risk of losing him for free next summer (assuming he’s not signing a new contract) and potentially increases what we can re-invest in the transfer market either in January or next summer.

But we lose him - our most creative player for the last 5 years and important goal scorer who acts much like a metronome for our attacking play. We will have to hope Lamela, Lucas, Son and Alli can compensate for his loss and/or Lo celso can adapt quickly. But there’s no guarantee they will be able to.

Some pundits suggest ensuring top 4 would be more valuable than an Eriksen sale and we potentially jeopardise that by selling him.

Personally, if Pochettino is happy to select him, I’d keep and play him. I think he’s a fantastic (and underrated) talent who if his head is with Spurs, will perform really well this season as he won’t be overplayed (51 games last season).

I think £60m would be enough to accept, if it meant we spent that on someone in January, if we were so close to Dybala, then surely we could go back and get that one done?

Can't see them offering that though, when they can pick him up for free next summer.

If we get anything between 40 to 60 millions, we'll have to accept. As this season is the first of our next 5 year project , I'm not adament that we must win something as there are still some holes in the team to be plugged. I hope this can be done in the next 2 TWs, and we must act early next summer so that Poch could really work on the incoming players .

Real were desperate for Hazard and paid accordingly. They seem pretty disinterested in Eriksen and will offer peanuts for him IMO.

60M for a player with one on his contract would be good business. If he stayed & went on a free there's still chance he could end up at MU.

He doesn't want to go Man Utd.

When he's a free agent he might view things differently if the likes of RM & Barca aren't interested.

I still remember one SC who was tell everyone he really didn't want to go & as soon as he could he walked down the road to join them.

Why would real wait? Just make the offer now, levy will either accept or decline by the end of the window. Levy might want to haggle but madrid just have to say that is their final offer.
Difficult to imagine even that Levy could haggle as, assuming it's true (and allowing for the January window), they are the only club between us losing him on a free next summer.

Been said many a time from articles and ITK, he wants to go to Spain, either Real or Barca, its a lifestyle change he's after.

So they would be buying him for their bench really, or as an investment, knowing they could sell him later to ManU for much more.

While Eriksen will be thinking if he gets a fair chance, he can prove himself to RM that he is the elite player that can make them tick.

The odds are against him, as he is not going to easily move up another level, and whatever the reasons they don't really fancy him now, are same reasons he wont get picked for the 11.

If we were to keep eriksen for another year I dont think he will sign a new contract and therefore will leave for free next season. Of course to keep himself in the shop window he cant let his levels drop too much but I think they may.

If we get a bid of £60m thats a lot of money for us.

I'm sure we will be ok without him but I'd rather have him. Do we take the money and 'survive' till Jan ?

I'd take £40m

His laziness v Abu Dhabi at the weekend has changed my mind

If it has to be 5th or 6th that's on Levy for not buying one more high class mid

I'm fairly nonplussed by the whole thing now. Having seen what Chelsea and United are offering this season (and to an extent Arsenal) then i personally feel we will be far too good to finish out of the top 4 regardless of if he stays or if he goes, so what will be will be.

I'd hate to have a player in my team who didn't want to be there and wasn't pulling his weight, and thankfully i think we have a manager who won't entertain that either. So Sept 2nd can't come soon enough for me, draw a line under it and move on.

The most important factor for me is if the player himself wants to go. If he does, let him. We've got amazing value from him - was it £12m we paid?? - and he's been a model pro in terms of performance and attitude pretty much throughout. It is not unreasonable that he'd want a change after so long here. It's not about him causing trouble or dissing Spurs - he just wants a change after 6 years (which is probably half his elite-level career) and I don't see that as unreasonable. Ajax > Spurs > Real and 100+ caps for Denmark would be a stunning career, and it just seems perfectly set up for that sequence to happen.

What we paid for him is irrelevant - it’s a sunk cost either way. The only thing that matters is what he’s worth to us now

its far too early for you to be writing off our rivals, but I do agree with your second point. He was hiding, drifting around at the weekend, which came as a huge and unwelcome surprise given the way he got involved after coming on v Villa.

I believe that Levy is too cute to get caught out by contracts running out again . I think he will be pushing for renewal with two years left on contracts and it will be sign or move them on . If anybody refuses to sign with two years left on their contract they are obviously going to go on a Bosman . As most players cost a lot of money of the grade we need and also the wages then myself I would want to try where possible to use younger players instead of picking players that are just playing out time as they may not be fully committed IE looking after themselves in regard to tackles and commitment .If players going on a Bosman becomes the norm then it would be almost impossible to build with any certainty . in my eyes it would be the deathnell for clubs like ours who struggle with the finances to keep up with the likes of City / Man Unt / Chelsea ? PSG / Juve / Real / Barca / who already have a stronghold on the top players it would just be more so as the do not seem to have any fiscal responsibility. Scary really could lead to those uber clubs forming their own league as regards finances the rest cannot compete . I must say that there may be a few more outside of the usual top six joining this elite as it seems that Wolves / Leicester / Everton / seem to have come into the ownership of some more uber rich people.
