Odd one this.

The £60m you’d take will benefit the club’s finances, reduce the risk of losing him for free next summer (assuming he’s not signing a new contract) and potentially increases what we can re-invest in the transfer market either in January or next summer.

But we lose him - our most creative player for the last 5 years and important goal scorer who acts much like a metronome for our attacking play. We will have to hope Lamela, Lucas, Son and Alli can compensate for his loss and/or Lo celso can adapt quickly. But there’s no guarantee they will be able to.

Some pundits suggest ensuring top 4 would be more valuable than an Eriksen sale and we potentially jeopardise that by selling him.

Personally, if Pochettino is happy to select him, I’d keep and play him. I think he’s a fantastic (and underrated) talent who if his head is with Spurs, will perform really well this season as he won’t be overplayed (51 games last season).

There's equally no guarantee that Eriksen will pick his form back up, bearing in mind that he's been pretty poor since half way through last season. I also think that we'll see a lot more creativity coming from deeper with Ndombele and Lo Celso instead of funnelling everything through the 10 position. If there's 60m on the table (which I doubt very much) I'd take it now and look to the future. Eriksen has had his chance to show a bit of committment to the club and hasn't lifted a finger, rather choosing to pin his hopes on a club coming in for him who seem to have little or no interest. I think RM are stringing him along and he's gone for it hook, line and sinker.

Couldn’t agree more!! Heard today that real might still be in for neymar or Pogba. If either of those are true then I don’t see the funds for a 60 mill eriksen. If we do get 60 mill then try to get that young Rennes midfielder we were linked with today or even try for van der beek in January with a view to a summer transfer.

Yes, good points. Learn to adapt to a post-Eriksen style of play now and blood the youth/future in the meantime.

Re: the bit in bold - if you were Eriksen and even if you enjoyed playing at Spurs (which he has said he does, just that he would be "open to a change of scenery"), why on earth would you sign a new contract now?

By not signing now, you leave yourself all the options: staying at Spurs long-term (Poch will still pick you), open to being bought by a big European team for a relatively reduced fee this TW or negotiating with your pick of European clubs come January.

I agree, but Eriksen can hardly blame the club and Poch if, under the circumstances, they look to the future and phase him out. He's holding out for what he wants but there's no reason for Spurs to hang about until he makes his mind up. Onwards and upwards.

It's a shame that he's such a shoe in for the Denmark starting XI given that it's the Euros next summer. We can't even threaten him with very limited game time and a worry about his International place should he decide to stay and aim to go on a free.

I for one would not mind him going this window as the fee whatever it may be will help buy a new player in Jan.
For him to go on a Bosman would be a Disaster for us but maybe the same for him.
If he plays like he has been he will not deserve to be selected for the first team which would affect his options when his Bosman move is to happen as his dream clubs who don't seem to want him now definitely won't want him after a year of stagnation.
So I believe that I would be wary of offering what has been suggested which is £200.000 a week for five years as his play has not warranted such a commitment from the club.
