Harry Redknapp is looking to spend around £8 million on one of the Celtic stars, seeing their invention and industry as a cheaper alternative to anything else on the market.

The former West Ham and Portsmouth boss was seen at Celtic Park during Arsenal’s recent win and both of the aforementioned players were on the score sheet during Celtic’s opening day win at Aberdeen.

The Scottish Daily Mail claim Brown is Redknapp’s preferred target, but is unwilling to pay £10 million for the Australian international. The Scottish Sun however today report Redknapp is ready to switch targets to McGeady if Mowbray is unwilling to negotiate on Brown.

I do not believe we need Brown in our midfeild. The partnership we have is spot on, with Jenas as back-up. McGeady is a fantastic talent and is only 23 (ish), if we buy him as a cheaper option, this will give us the option to have Modric in the middle to supply the little uns up front / or play a 4-3-3 similar to how Liverpool use Benayoun.

Awful article. Doesn't actually mention which 2 players it is until the final paragraph, where it happens to refer to Brown as an 'Australian international' (that would be Scott McDonald).
  2. not_tenth-again
Brown the 'Australian International', news to me..... Scott MacDonald is Australian not Brown. I think that confirms where this journalism can be filed - in the bin.

Agreed but Redknapp was, and has been, to a number of Celtic games recently. I posted the article to discuss the potential signing of either of the Celtic players, as opposed to the way the article was written.

What are anyones elses thoughts on Brown or McGeady ?

harry could have been up there just to watch Arsenal play. I am sure that he is aware as most of us are that playing well in the SPL does not necessarily translate into playing well in the EPL.

if harry was looking at any Celtic player's I would hope it was mcGeady as a left midfield option. I do not know much about any of the other players.

Against Arse-anal I thought Brown was very industrious, however McGeady was excellent and what a great engine. He was involved in all of Celtic's best moves on the night and unlike Brown, never gave up chasing and harrasing the Arse-anal players.
Should 'Arry make a bid for him, I for one would be delighted

what is the point in signing either of these players?

The only sensable reason I can think of is if Harry's thinking of selling Jenas/o'hara and to have brown to come in as backup.

I'd rather we got Mendes back, always liked him and i think he'd complement Winston when Hudd needs a rest.

I believe Hudd and Winston are forming that promises to be a formidable duo in the center and i think it shows what a great passer and a great tackler can do together, it also shows that Jenas, for me, is neither and we are weaker with him in the team for sure.

We all talk of 'balance' and when we do were usually refering to the left wing possition that we have lacked since Ginola but if you look just what Arry has done its quite amaizing considering all we have done, in acutal fact, is add palacios.

We have two great Keepers in their own right.

We have the best CB in the country in King and another not far behind him in Woody, to add to this we have the very very bright talent that is Bassong and a never say die Dawson who tho is prone to the odd mistake will prove vital in certain games..

we have a world class RB in Charlie and Ekotto is fast becoming an amaizing LB, infact he is our most improved player in a few seasons. We have Hutton who can do the job of RB without question and the young talented Naughton who even now is looking very very good. Then we have Bale who promised much but got thrown in, played a lot of games in a troubled side and lost confidence in himself, when he recovers from that and starts over he will learn and improve further.

The midfield is the key for me.

We have the trickiest RW in England in Lennon.
We have the best passer in England in Thudd.
We have the best tacking DM in England in Palacios.
On the left, 'our problem area' we have found a world class player who does absolutly everything right and while doing it dosnt make our laft flank look weak in any way at all.
The partnership of Thudd and Palacios is really starting to blossem, yes even after two games you can see it, Thudd passes are so accurate and you can see the strikers are really benefitting from having him pull the strings and he can accuratly swith play from one side of the pitch with consumate ease. It really is a joy to watch.
The clever thing is how Arry can change this around with the introduction of Naughton to the right side and moving Lennon to the left so Modric can come into the center if need be, there is of course the hard working O'hara that can also come on to the left side.
I think Modric can take Thudd's place without batting an eye if we needed him there, i still feel that we could do with another Palacios type player for cover and competition in that area, JJ just dosnt do it for me..

The front four are perfectly balanced for any situation.

We all know what the lil man offers, pace, power and goals a plenty but he's also learning to hold the ball up too.
Keane can link the midfield better than any of the other strikers.
Pav has class and techneque and scores all types of goals.
Crouch has a great touch for a big guy and he is as good as any of the others with the ball on the deck, his height offers us good advantages at corners and is an outlet when things get tough at the back.

So, with virtually the same team we have had for quite a few seasons Arry has so many options but has hardly changed a thing. Thats speaks volumes as his ability as a manager.
He is also quietly going about sorting the youngsters at the club too, keeping the real prospects and sending them out on load for experience while letting the others leave the club.

All in all we are loking like we are starting to get some structure and a certain style about us. Well done Arry and thank you, it almost, in a funny way, feels like you saved our club.

I think McGeady should be considered for left mid, as other than Modric, no-one else is proven, and im convinced that Modric can be even more effective in his favoured position of centre midfield. Not saying to drop Thud.. but as another option for us

Well said mate, your enthusiasm and excitement for what the season ahead holds for us really comes through and echos the way i (and many others) have been feeling all day.

Your describtions focus on all the positives of our squad and none of the negatives which I feel we still have many and work is still there to be done.

We dont need to sign anyone, were top of the league!!!)

Don't let the fact that McGeady and Brown are playing in the SPL put you off. They are both quality players who have demonstrated in the Champions League that they can play against quality opposition.

This from Chick Young on the BBC who is no Celtic fan:
Aiden McGeady looked Arsenal class against Aberdeen last Saturday. More impressively, he looked Arsenal class against Arsenal.

McGeady would offer us something on the left as cover for Modric and up front if needed. Brown would cover for Palacios in midfield and could play alongside him if we need a more physical approach.

I can see O'Hara/Jenas and Bentley going out and McGeady or Brown coming in. Chimbonda or Hutton will go too because one is definitelly surplus to requirements. Hutton's work rate last night at 4-1 was fantastic. He has more of an upside for me, so I would keep him.

Spot on.... a number of good players have come from Scottish football. McGead nearly signed for Arsenal before he went to Celtic, but wanted to sign for his boyhood heroes. Brown is recovering from an injury so is slightly behind the rest of his team in terms of fitness, but is still a class player. Im not interested in a centre mid as im happy with what we have, but decent wide players are always useful !

i honestly dont think we need another signing the best thing thats happend is relatively no major changes this will benefit us as i think we will build great team understanding and spirit!
  14. cnyy12
I agree, McGeady is definitely quality. He could play in the Premiership easily, would probably even challenge for the Left Wing problem spot for England. I would take him to cover the wings, especially we could offload Bentley at a minimal loss.
  15. guate
I'd love to see McGeady come in as his work rate, enthusiasm and never say die spirit is just what we want to omplement our squad. Personally I consider him a much better player than Brown.
