Harry Redknapp is keen for Aaron Lennon to have his groin injury sorted out immediately to prevent any repercussions for next season.
Redknapp says Lennon is ‘miles away’ from being fit enough to train or play and expects the wide man to miss England’s forthcoming World Cup qualifiers as well as the Under-21 European Championship in the summer.
Lennon was carrying the injury until it flared up recently, and the Spurs boss wants a definitive answer as to whether the forward needs surgery.
“He keeps saying he doesn’t need surgery, but I don’t want him coming back for next season and it becoming clear he needs surgery, and then he’s out for 10 weeks,” Redknapp said.
“The specialist will examine him and he will decide whether Aaron needs surgery or not. The people who have seen him so far feel he doesn’t need surgery, but Aaron’s not fit so there has to be a problem there.”
Redknapp is sticking to his guns over the mantra that Ledley King cannot play two games in a row, as he sends out a warning to England coach Fabio Capello, should the defender be called up for the qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra.
“If England pick him, great, if he’s fit to play. He would have to play and then not train,” added Redknapp.
“If Ledley played in the first game, he wouldn’t be able to play in the second that’s for sure because there would not be long enough for him to rest and recover. He can’t recover in four days.”
