Well the crazy season is over until January. So as the dust settles this morning, what do we think of the clubs dealings?

By my reckoning, the club have got rid of 10 first team squad players and recruited 7 and 1 loan. Making approx £11m net profit in the process. About the price of Fellaini who is the type of strong DM we really need.

Defence; All positions covered. New quality signing
In Goal; Great new keeper and reserve.
Midfield; 2 quality players in + possibly midfield / forward in Dos Santos:clap:
Strikers; We lost the best forward partnership in the Prem (£50m) and Defoe; Bought a quality target man :hump:to replace Berbs and a promising kid to replace Defoe. But we failed to replace Keane.:eek:mg:

Still Missing:
Defensive midfielder; Fellaini or Veloso would have been good.:bang:
Left Winger; Not seen since days of Ginola. Failed with Capel & Garcia.
Support Striker; Went for Arshavin in big way. Missed Milito + others.:bang:

First team squad is now only 22. What happens to the unsold players who are not 1st team; Boateng, Taabart, Ghally etc.

Conclusion:
Am I being a typical SPurs fan when I say good but yeeeahh...
3 more players and £30m net spend would have been reasonable financially and perfect for the squad.

Questions:
Why did we sell Keane so long ago without a replacement?
Will we ever see a left winger again or have we gone all New Labour? :duh:
Are we concerned about the gaping hole in front of the back 4? :eek:mg:
Why did we start the season with 1 striker ? :snooty:
Do we have the squad now to challenge for top 4? :-|

the fact that Boateng is still around could be crucial if we get any injuries. could be a BIG player for spurs this year.

Overall i'm not that impressed, i feel let down to be honest. It seems we have sold our best strikers for a few quid in the bank. Manure stomping all over us as usual and now on SSN they say we have dropped our case aginst them.Same old Tottenham .

We should have done more in the transfer window, but we now have better cover in defence following the signing of Corluka. He can also play in a defensive midfield position. It was good that we got him after all, as City managed to sign Robinho.

Hughes has done some great signings this season, and especially Jo, Robinho, Kompany, SWP.

If we take a look at our squad, we have attacking midfielders who can support the strikers, and players like Jenas, Dos Santos, Bentley, Modric, Lennon are all players who are able to score goals.

If we play with a lone striker up front, the midfielders we have can form a good attacking unit. We want to attack as a unit, and I hope that the team will settle well. If we have good feeders for the strikers, we do not actually need more than 3 main strikers, with Pavyluchenko, Bent and Campbell up front.

I had excpected to see one more striker coming in, and I also had hoped that we could have concluded a deal for Lassana Diarra, Diego Capel.

I feel like I did when I was on the receiving end of a two footed challenge that ended my footie playing at a relatively high level and put me in and out of hospital for six months.

Immediately afterwards - immense pain, some degree of bitterness and anger, with some concern as to what the future will bring.

The next few days (hopefully) - realisation that life has to go on, but still thinking about what could have been.

After a few months - well, it wasn't meant to be, everything happens for a reason, it's gonna be for the best.

For the rest of my life - remembering fondly the memories of what I had at the time, the pain has generally subsided though the scar will be there for life, the occasional dull ache (presumably when Berba wins a trophy) but utlimately I've not complaints as to how things have turned out.

That's what I hope will happen. Alternatively we could end up the equivalent of a crack addict. Don't let this happen Levy/Ramos et al.

We've signed some decent players, but we have lost our two best players and have not replaced them.

The "few quid" you refer to would have broken the British transfer record had Robinho not been bought by Citeh. Same old Tottenham, eh? If we'd flogged Berba for £20m I'd have agreed with you - Berba was always going to go - and we got what we wanted.

If Pavlyuchenko turns out not able to hack it in the Premiership, we're screwed. The Campbell deal was clearly a case of all our other targets falling through, I pray that he turns out to be awsome, but we've only got him on loan so he'll go back at the end of the season. I'm glad we got the money we wanted for Berba, I just wish it had been done around the same time as the Keane deal so we'd have had more time to fill the gaps.

3 forwards is ok if we're playing a 451, I'm just not sure if Campbell has the ability to play in that formation.

I'd have loved to see Diarra come in as well, but it sounds like that was dependant on the Barton deal.

I'd be interested to hear what the ITKs are saying about how Levy and co feel it went. Was it a dissaster with all our contignecy plans falling through, or was this always the most likely scenario?

For once a post from SK that I agree with and takes a sensable look at things.

OK. I've calmed down a bit now. I'm delighted with our signings in this window. For me, Pavyluchenko will replace Berbatov as the big man up front. Hopefully he adapts well to the Premier League. He's a clinical finisher and scores a lot of the goals we fail to convert from rebounds etc. And he looks really good in the air too. So i'm delighted we've signed him.

I'm now thinking that Modric is the replacement for Keane. He wont score as many goals but he's better at creating them. The goals will now come from Bent aswell as Pavyluchenko. And we have more goals from midfield than last season. Look how many goals Bentley scored last season? And Giovani has goals in him too, which he showed in pre-season. As does Jenas and Bale.

Its really about our defending from here. We scored so many goals last year but still finished 11th. It was really about Keane and Berbatov digging us out of trouble. If we defend a lot better now then we're set up perfectly for quick counter attacking football. We've signed 5 defenders and 2 goalkeepers this year. Corluka will cover for King now, when Hutton returns and he's also an option in defensive midfield. We showed against Chelsea that we can defend. Now we need to how it more consistently.

I suppose the big dissapointment comes when you expect something big on the final day. I really thought Arshavin would eventually happen. I would have settled for Garcia or Milito in the end. But now i feel dissapointed that we just ended up with Campbell. Good young player but we're really screwed in the UEFA cup now imo.

Our squad has improved on last year..
Robinson Gomes
Chimbonda Hutton
Lee Bale
Kaboul Woodgate
Dawson King
Jenas Jenas
Zokora Modric
Lennon Bentley
Malbranque Dos Santos
Keane Pavlychenko
Berbatov Bent

Cerny Cesar
Rocha Corluka
Gardner Dawson
Huddlestone Huddlestone
Tainio Zokora
Bent Lennon
Defoe Campbell

Team on the list was the squad used for the first 6 games or so. Bale and King were injured and our signings apart from Campbell are all better than the players they have replaced.

But really nothing has changed, every year a tottenham fan says the same thing we are 3 players short of challenging the top 4...

I just hope this year, we can get the defence tighter, show some flair in midfield and by xmas be in the top half of the table with a chance of getting in the top 4. Then in January maybe Capel/Veloso/Arshavin or whoever will come in and from Jan onwards we will kick on and challenge the top 4.

It's the old ex-gf analogy that stands out for me. I wasn't that bothered about Berbatov leaving until I actually saw him laughing and smiling on SSN with that red-faced septic warthog's **** Ferguson, and then I had to be restrained from kicking my tv screen in.

Keane and Carrick hurt more though.

Can anyone confirm whether Pav and Cor will be cup tied for the entire comp, or can we register them in Jan?

I think Gio is more of a Keane replacement than Modric TBH.

This season is now going to depend on how good some of our unknown quantities play this season. If Pav, Gio and Modric(who already looks the bollocks) all have awsome first seasons in the Premiership then we could well finish 5th. However if they're form is up and down as they take time to adapt, I think we'll be mid-table again unfortunatly.

We also need to get the best out of Bentley as I've been a little dissapointed so far(apart form pre-season, but that doesnt count).

 You saved me a lot of typing there Mr one in a million. Its pretty much exactly how i see it. Particularly on the defence front. i think the goal we conceded against chelsea was a mix of a dodgy clearance from bent and a big slice of bad luck. apart from that i thought we defended magnificently against the team i think will win the league. we have a goalkeeper who actually breeds confidence when a cross comes into the box and amid the disappointment re: strikers i think people are losing how much of a player Corluka is.

I think modric would only be the keane type player if we play with one man up front and him relieved of his defensive duties.

Agree with the fact that Gio is probably more of a replacement for keane than modric as for Bentley i think he is still getting match fit after missing the beginning of pre season....does anybody reckon that we looked better against chelsea when lennon, hudd and ohara came on?
