I know we've debated this before but.....

Dawson, Gallas, Parker have all worn the armband. Neither Dawson or Gallas play regularly enough to be captain.

Parker is probably the best option for the remainder of the season even if his current form is below par. Vertonghen a definite candidate but even he seems to be left out every now and then. Lloris is captain of France but......can't see it myself.

We had this problem under Harry as well - King was captain, but often injured. Keane then became captain but often was then not picked.

Anyone else think we need an ever present to drive, lead and motivate the team? If so, who? if not, why not?

I think having an ever present captain is fine if there is an obvious choice who is guaranteed first team football. I don't really think we have one at the moment?

In our current situation I would pick the strongest 11 for the coming match and then choose a captain from there. We have a number of people who can play the role.

I think it would be good to have a captain who will be out there most games.

We do have strong characters, and ones that have captained us before, or have at previous clubs or for their country, but at times you just need 1 person to get everyone in line.

It will stop people looking around to try and find out whats going on and can just look to the captain.
Its not doing us any harm, but i think it could improve us.

Yep, I agree we're doing okay at the moment - clearly our form and league position are good. I just reckon that a regular captain, playing week in week out at the peak of his game, with leadership and motivational skills could give us that extra edge that could be the difference at the top end of the table. Whilst I don't want to even type his name....John Terry gives Chelsea that extra edge, and i think we need someone like that who the other players can look up to.

Long term possibly. Or Kaboul. But what about now to lead through the run in?

Leaders will lead. Do you really think Parker/Gallas/Dawson will be any more/less vocal with/without an armband? It will make zero difference for leading us "through the run in".

You know we're doing too well when people are fretting over this and who will take the penalties we never get. :)

Unless an obvious option presents itself then I don't think it is necessary. The team seem to be on the same wavelength as each other and we are grinding out results when needed.

No need to force a situaition.

It clearly isn't causing us any issues in not having a captain, but I think there is always something great about having a player in the squad that everyone knows is 'The Captain,' if that makes sense. If you look at the majority of great sides, they have that player who seems to represent the club on the whole, be it Puyol, Casillas, Maldini, even John Terry to Chelsea fans.

I don't particularly like to see a pass the parcel situation with the captain's armband for that reason (Livermore having it for the end of the Lyon game was a bit silly) but as people have said, its not doing us any harm. Perhaps it would be nice for us to have a more formal ranking, that we all know about, for example the club saying 'Dawson is captain, then Parker, then Gallas,' or whatever, so we know where we stand, but ultimately, no one is really going to replace the aura that Ledley had, so perhaps this is a good way to approach the season after his retirement, before giving it to someone on a more full time basis next season.

Haven't seen him live at a game so I can't really comment, but to me, he looks very quiet to be a captain.....?

I dont have a problem is the captain is quiet.
If he can get his point across, motivate ect with out shouting at players and it results are just as good then i dont see the problem.

Not sure i would go with Sandro either.

Kaboul or Verts are the two that stick out for me. You could go with Lloris, but you will still need someone further up the pitch to take charge.

Cant see Parker playing much next season, and i cant see anyone else who would start most games as a captin yet.

Walker and Caulker are another two that could be in a few seasons.

You haven't mentioned Lennon and his spell with the armband was some of his most productive games than any player you mentioned
