Martin O'neill has warned Tottenham he will only entertain cash bids for Nigel Reo-Coker.

The 25-year-old Aston Villa midfielder has been heavily linked with a swap deal with Tom Huddlestone.

But Villa boss O'Neil is eager to recoup the £8.5million he paid West Ham for the former England U21 captain two years ago and unless a cash bid is tabled, the deal could be scuppered.

O'Neill is willing to let Reo-Coker go after reducing him to a bit-part player.

As has been observed by many on this site, swap deals very rarely happen.

Sorry but the like of NRC will not improve any area of the squad. I dont even think he'd improve the reserves. Big no from me, just hope Harry feels the same.

Cant really see the point of this one tbh, he's no better, or worse, than Jenas imo, if were going to improve, we we need an upgrade on JJ not a player of the same average ability. That said, NRC is younger and could improve.

He would be a downgrade on Jenas - hasn't been able to secure a place in Villa's central midfield really since he's been there, and has been more of a full back. Jenas can be infuriating but at least he shows flashes of very good ability. Reo-Coker is completely uninspiring

I wouldn't mind seeing Reo-Coker at Spurs. I rate him quite highly when he's playing centre midfield.

    Rate him quite highly????

Not good enough for West Ham, Not good enough for Villa.

    IMO, English version of Zokora!!!!

Reo would be an excellent player for any of the promoted teams!!!!

nigel reo-coker is not better than ANY midfielder currently playing in our squad...why o why would we go there?!!!!

I don't think it's right to say he wasn't good enough for West Ham. He played every game for them before he decided to leave.

I've visited a few Villa forums to see thier opinions regarding Bentley, Young and Reo-Coker and they seem to rate him highly as a central midfielder and he was getting very good reviews when he played there.

It was once he moved to right back he became unhappy and started playing more poorly.

There is absolutely no way we should swap Reo-Coker for Huddlestone anyway, so it's obvous to me that a swap is not going to happen.
As for cash, sure we would all like to recoup the amount we payed for players who didn't work out....get into the real world O'Neil.

I think that's a tad harsh on Zokora

This is the kind of player I can see Harry bringing to Spurs...someone who's lost there way a bit but undoubtedly had talent. And any of you who can't see Reo has talent should remember how he was rated at West Ham. He definietely fits in with the profile of players that will add depth to the squad that Harry has said he's ;looking for. This is about the most realistic transfer rumour I've heard this summer. Whether that means it will happen:shrug:

WP and Reo would make us a tougher midfield away from home, not saying its going to happen but we need to toughen up away from home
  12. Real_madyidd
Would be a great signing. Upgrade on several members of our squad.

if harrys serious about this i dont know what hes on. hes crap who would swap huddlestone for him!?
  14. daffygremlin
he would be cover for palacios. he is a better tackler and a tougher player than zokora/jenas/huddlestone imo and he has a good work rate.
  15. sebo_sek
NRC is proven. At Villa he was behind Barry and Petrov, so really not much hope of playing.
If he were to come to us and play alongside Palacios, then he would get back to his WEst Ham best. If we don't get anyone for the left and Modric stays there, then NRC could do a job in the middle - provided Jenas leaves, otherwise his situation would not have improved much.

We all know that for all his "stature", Huddlestone is not a physical CM, whereas NRC is. A good pass is not everything in this game, and Tom hasn't really picked up on the other parts yet. I am not saying flog him off tomorrow, but in truth I wouldn't be too fussed if he were to go.

All in all a lot of if's and but's but this transfer would not worry me in the least. Harry has a good track record with players who were given a second chance. They would bleed for him, and that sort of attitude is hard to come by.

Lets just hope this is rubbish talk - The Hudd is soooooo much better then then the claret and blue reject + 2

I'd rather have Ghaly than NRC
  18. sebo_sek
You're not alone there, and now the lack of Ghaly could prove quite costly - and being very serious.
