Tottenham transfer news: Barcelona planning bid for wonderkid Reo Griffiths - EXCLUSIVE
BARCELONA are planning a summer swoop for Tottenham wonderkid Reo Griffiths.

By David Woods, Chief Football Writer /Published 22nd May 2018

The Spanish giants are aiming to give the Londoners a taste of their own medicine - with Spurs hoping to snatch 18-year-old Ricard ‘Rique’ Piug from the Nou Camp.

Barca can sign teenage goal sensation Griffiths when he turns 18 on June 27.

They would have to pay Spurs compensation, but nothing like the amount a rival Premier League outfit would be forced to fork out.

Academy hotshot Griffiths has been dubbed the next Harry Kane after some staggering goal-scoring exploits this season.

Born in Highgate, north London, Griffiths played for Leyton Orient before joining Spurs in July 2016.

This season he bagged 34 goals - 13 more than his nearest rival.

Barca’s interest grew last month when Griffiths scored four and made three in a 9-0 thrashing of Arsenal.

That stunning win came six days after he grabbed a goal as the Spurs youngsters beat Chelsea’s heralded Under-18s 3-0 - their first home defeat for three years.

In February Griffiths netted a hat-trick as Arsenal were beaten 4-1 in a Under-18 Premier League Cup clash.

Barcelona’s interest is also in response to Spurs’ pursuit of their own starlet Puig.

He has reportedly decided not to commit to the Catalans and Spurs are said to be close to an agreement to sign him.

Daily Star.....bless em.

This dude is putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 if you ask me.

With that said, the recent instagram live video of Reo saying "oh i'll be signing something soon...." was interpreted by most as suggestion he's staying here but I'm not so sure. His tone seemed a bit odd to me in the video, almost like he was a bit "i'm gonna prove you wrong about me" kinda thing. I dunno though, I'm not sure he deserves some sort of special treatment so if he stays, cool and if goes, good luck to him.

For the record though, I've not seen anyone, anywhere dub him as the "next Harry Kane". These journos :bored:

If there is one position you are genuinely better off at Spurs in then it's a striker.

He only needs a little bit more about him than Janssen and he's straight in the squad.

Why is this, because Kane? May I introduce to Lionel Messi. You know, the best player in football atm and quite possibly the best player or all time.

No, I meant in terms of path to the first team squad.

We don't have a serious second striker so no-one to block his progression (assuming he's good enough).

I don't think we should dismiss this story so easily, after all it is full of quotes.

Hoping he can force his way into the squad next season, would love to have another home grown goal scorer smashing the league to bits! Would be so much more satisfying than spunking millions on the likes of Jannsen / Soldado / Llorente.

Playing devil’s advocate here - what’s an example of a transfer speculation article filled with quotes? I’ve seen this criticism often and never really understood it. Just feels like it never happens.

Now that Puig has re-signed for Barca, I presume their supposed interest in Griffiths will cease.

Tottenham youngster Reo Griffiths is set to stay at the club. The 17-year-old scored more than 30 goals for the club's under-18s last season and had been tipped for a move to the Bundesliga. (London Evening Standard)

Hopefully we can keep him. No idea of the legitimacy of the story but striker isn't a bad position to be a youth at Spurs right now, assuming we let Janssen and Llorente go and only bring in a WF/ST hybrid like Martial. Son/Martial still deputise for Kane in PL/CL but Griffiths could pick up some cup minutes if progressing well. Seems to have the physical side already.

Goes along with what I said few weeks ago about ‘what I heard’ in the youth thread. I heard and stated, he agreed to sign, or signed, and would train with the first team. I believe that he will get to train with them, but prove himself in u23’s.

Good news that he's continuing his development with us. Presumably that puts Reo in the same position as Kazaiah Sterling this past season - training mostly with the first team and playing for the u23s.

I suspect that Griffiths and Sterling will also be competing for who gets that one minute of playing time off the bench. :)
