Agreement has been reached with Sampdoria for the loan transfer of Reto Ziegler until the end of the season.

The Swiss international joined us from Grasshoppers in August 2004 and went on to make 31 appearances in his first season, scoring one goal at the Lane against Everton.

Last season the 21-year-old spent time away from the Lane on loan at both Hamburg (14 appearances) and Wigan (13), the latter spell including a substitute appearance against Manchester United in the Carling Cup final.

He has featured in four First Team games this season and now heads off to Genoa and the team that currently sit 10th in the Serie A standings.

Jesus just sell him at this point. He's been loaned out more than my copy of the Office.
  2. haxman
Yeah, its not fair on the lad messing him around like this, he's unlikely to play under Jol, shame cause I thought he had potential when he signed for us first
  3. 18Klinsmann
These never ending loan agreements must mean that Jol still believes he can become a great player. I echo that sentiment, but how and when reto is going to get back in the frame at the Lane is hard to see.
The fact that top flight clubs from top European leagues keep coming in from him suggests that the kid is quality, but just needs that little bit extra I don't know what. Good luck Reto, I hope you set Serie A on fire.
  4. sebo_sek
Agreed. Obviously not seen as good enough so why stand in his way. He is moving backwards in my opinion, but how can he move forward with such treatment. Not nice Spurs, not nice at all
  5. guate
Seems such a shame that he's not be able to settle down and show his worth, however I tend to agree with 18Klinsmann's comments about MJ believing that the lad has quality and just needs that little bit extra to develop into a positive left side midfielder or defender for us.

Otherwise, surely MJ would have got shot of him ages ago !!

    QUE VIVA LOS SPURS

I dont think he will ever be good enough to hold down a place on the bench so should be sold. We must have a couple of players lined up cos with Reto and Davids gone a few more indjuries and we will be light in midfield the same as last season when we cleared out Mendes and Davis. I have heard that Murphy will also be gone come midnight

i agree with all the above what good will going on loan again do,with all our left side problems, i feel he never got the chance to prove himself, but i guess you have to have faith in bmj.
  8. TheVoiceofReason
I hope he comes back better and with more confidence. we still dont have a left winger so jol maybe has plans for him
  9. infamousyiddo
never gonna cut it at the lane.....harsh but true.

Good move for Reto, he will now have played for 5 differnt teams, in 4 different leagues, in 4 different countries plus U-21 football and ssenior international football. Sooner or later we should make up our mind whether he is good enough or not, or he will never settle anywhere.

I'm sitting on the fence on this one, I have been impressed and disappointed in equal measures.

I'm so nervous about tonight I can't stop typing

And how we should treat him actually?...play him againts team like arsenal, chelsea etc and let the 'spurs fan' abuse and boo him on the pitch....? He could'nt break into Wigan 1st team, hamburg etc...ocassionally he did reasonably well in the reserve, but never show anything special whenever given the chance in the team (albiet limited). Honestly, how many of us want to see Retro in the starting line up week in week out.....spurs fans alway ask 'the players who are not on the field'.....e.g whenever Jenas played, many said he was useless, and when he got injured, everybody want him back, missed him, etc.....same case with Mido in the 1st semi-final match, when Keane did'nt perform, many have said 'Mido the Saviour' should have started instead, although at other times, the old broken record "Mido the Fat Lazy' song was played.

I agree, players are sent on loan in order to improve and come back better for it. Unfortunately that hasn't happened with Reto. Maybe it's because he hasn't been given the chances, but his loan moves seem to have dented his confidence, rather than improve it. Hopefully this loan move will be different.

I know that it is off-topic but has anyone heard:

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR are expected to complete the signing of highly rated youngster Dean Parnett. The 15-year-old is currently with...

On the subject or Reto - let us have a little patience on him, perhaps he needs another approach to get the est out of him.

I hope that this is the case.

Another leftie gone, are Jol and Comolli against lefties, there does seem to be some sort of discrimination going on here, jesus we might as well get jade goody to scout asia for us!

Reto was never gonna make it wih us i think so probably rught to let him go, but why not on january 1st o we knew what we had and have time to bring in a replacement.

Really pray we have a natural left sided player coming in.
  15. NeverRed06
mark yeates has just gone on loan to leicester, doubt he would be in first team and probly will be playing for them next season.

on the teddy sheringham talk his agent has claimed it is just paper rubbish at the moment but if mido does leave tonite then we might have to go with teddy

    COYS!!!!

It's only because Ziegler played for the first team at such a young age that people think he's taking ages to mature and is not succeeding. He's still younger than any of our first team players except Huddlestone and Lennon. He's also younger than a couple of the reserves: younger than Yeates and about the same age as O'Hara.

He's also younger than Davenport and Reid, both of whom have been sold. The fact that are still keeping Ziegler in contract must suggest that they think he is more important to the club's future than either of those two.

As 18Klinsmann said above, if the club thought he wasn't going to make it, they would have sold him ages ago. Players mature at differing rates during their careers. Ziegler was initially precocious and has since slowed down in his development. Plus the squad is a lot stronger than it was 2 years ago.

We have to look at hiis career with his age in mind - not when he started playing for us.

Maybe no one is prepared to take him on he money were paying him and that why we havnt sold him, and clubs are only prepared to take a loan, we may be paying his wages still for all we know, for me he has dissapointed everywhere he has been, wat do we do if he dissapoints on loan again?
  18. sebo_sek
And why not play him against these teams? We now have Malbranque for that position and he's right footed. We complain about our left side but have a solution at least for the less demanding games and not use him. I simply think it's unfair. Then again he might like these sightseeing trips. I knhow Id be pissed if I were him. good enough two years ago but not anymore - that's a backward step in my dictionary. I for one like him and have never criticised him.
But Serie A is a lot slower than the Prem. If anything loaning him out to a La Liga team would have made much more sense. I have a feeling he's gonna be warming the bench at a mediocre Italian side. A real shame.

As for these Spurs "fans". You cant change that and these players must be prepared to deal with it. You cant make everyone happy and in some cases it borders with the ridiculous the expectations that some have:duh::duh:

Bloody hell, some of you lot are acting like we're sending him there against his will. He wouldn't be going to Italy if he didn't want to.
