I get that what Defoe did for the lad was really nice and beyond the usual, but why do people then start suggesting he be knighted etc. There are thousands of people from much tougher backgrounds who give up their lives to help others every day and get nothing but the shit end of the stick, I find it fucking irritating that the minute a celebrity behaves like a human being people want them canonised.

He did a good thing. Lets recognise it and applaud it, but lets not put him on a pedestal above people doing this every hour of every day, for shit pay and long hours without overtime pay above and beyond. They are the the real heroes.

I'm not particularly bothered if he gets one but I do agree with this. He hasn't changed my opinion of footballers. There have always been a fair amount that do good deeds on the regular.

In hindsight, when you put up that argument I am inclined to agree with you. So many people not in the public eye who do this every day for scanty reward. A good point well raised and excellently expressed .....

Deeply saddening. I'm not sure I can add much of worth that hasn't already been said. I'm usually such a cynical, bitter old soul, but nowadays these things just make me think of my daughter.

I hear what you're saying but does that mean we don't credit anyone when they do something good unless we credit everyone equally? It's a nice thought but we know that's not really possible. A knighthood is a bit strong but some kind of public credit wouldn't be unwarranted.

There are also others who do go above and beyond in their life and are publicly recognised (albeit after what is usually a very long time). It's not really a big deal for the guy but someone in the public eye who has done something like this getting credit for it could help to inspire others to do good. Just my thoughts.

I think the calls for Sports Personality could be the most apt if he can carry on footballing success for the rest of the year and use what he's done as a springboard for something else positive in the public eye down on the south coast.

Bradley got to experience an awful lot during his short life, I just hope that this isn't a one off and that other sick children get a chance to experience some of the stuff that he did.
