Always hoped he wouldn't be playing against us, which I suppose is a roundabout way of saying I quite liked him as a player who always got stuck in. Sad news.

Sad news in a time when sad news is happening all too often but this does seem to strike African players more than any other ethnic background.

I read something along these lines before and it makes very interesting reading. There is clearly something in it.

Unfortunately, there definitely is, and we know exactly what causes it. It's an autosomal dominant gene that's relatively common in people of African descent, including as much as 1/500 black athletes according to one study. It can be identified by EKG, but only at a 70% sensitivity rate. Really sad, really scary, and ultimately so horrible for the families who lose an otherwise healthy loved one to this.
