I don't understand it either. If we'd have got him at the end of last season instead of Sissoko, we'd have won the league. Also, if we'd have signed him at the end of last season, 90% of our fans would have been delighted. He had a poor season last year in a poor side who had serious issues. People forget how bad Hazard was the season before last but he propelled the Chavs to the title.

At Leicester he gets no time on the ball and is still amazing, at us, with defenders marking Alli, Eriksen and Kane, he could be special.

The lazy trope is just bollocks too. Watch the game tonight, he is a tenacious guy who would fit in fine.

We wouldn't have won the league with him playing like he did last season

.

Was there not something a few days ago about there being a PL backup to one of our main targets? I try to avoid the daily thread...[/QUOTE]

Yes, Gards did indicate (see below) that if the Italian target didn't go through then we had a PL proven player as 2nd choice. I think most (including me) thought this was Josh King but maybe it's Mahrez?

All I will say is, 1 very close, 1 under radar being worked on and will improve the side attacking wise. Have a back up option from the prem of the attacking option doesn't come off, the attacking player plays for a good side in Europe.

Fair but I very much doubt he would have played like that. There were some very specific circumstances at Leicester last season which caused mayhem to all their players. It's not fair to judge him on that IMO

Maybe or maybe he's just back to "normal" and the PL winning season was just a fluke? I mentioned above that his career stats are not impressive.

Wenger's not interested:

It would appear however that any potential move is off after Wenger explained he already had enough options similar to Mahrez.

‘We were never close [to a deal],’ Wenger is quoted by The Independent. ‘I rate him as a player but we have similar types with Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil and now Jack Wilshere back. ‘We have plenty of the same type of player.’

I just don't buy the fluke arguament tbh. He was reaching his peak when he had that season so judging a player pre-peak seems odd to me.

And i think a fluke can make an average player have a good season but he didn't have a good season, he had an incredible season - one of the best the prem has seen.

Personally, I think it's much more likely he'll have a season like 2 years ago rather than last season.

So funny, once again Wenger has shit in his eyes. Those players are nothing like Mahrez.

Are you willing risk 35-40m plus 100k per week?

Signing Mahrez would be different planet to signing Sissoko, and he probably wouldn't cost much more.

Our first choice is out the window, so if Poch wants Mahrez then I'm all for it. It just gives us quality options, which we're seriously lacking at the momemt.

Remember when Chelsea had Hazard to bring on in the semi final? It was demoralising because we had absolutely nothing in reserve to counter it with. Someone like Mahrez in the squad would make a big difference.

If Balde is not on the cards any more, Mahrez would be about 10^100 times better of a backup signing than Josh King. I'd be very happy with getting him, but I'd be very surprised if we were willing to put down the readies to do the deal.

Would be a great signing. If you Think about his skill set, it is exactly what we have been craving since Bale bailed.

Pace, acceleration, dribbling, assists and goals from his own creation.

Foxestalk - very little about him joining us.

Some on there are expecting a fee in excess of £50m especially since Liverpool have just turned down £90m for Coutinho. And better than Salah. Some are banging on about getting £70m for him. The posts start to change during the Arsenal game.

------
Roma will not increase their offer for Leicester forward Riyad Mahrez, according to the Italian club's director of football Monchi. The Serie A side are reported to have seen what would amount to a club record bid of £32million turned down by the Foxes. Arsenal don't want him so we've got him until January atleast? Unless bagodicks spurs buy him. Bagodicks?

During the game tonight:

Mahrez of last season has shown up tonight half arsed tackles and the body language of a sloth

Just read the red Cafe United forum ... they are tearing him to bits for his attitude and laziness .. don't think he'll be going there.

Desire and commitment is what we need not over paid monkeys throwing a strop!

Do people still think we will miss him after mearly beating arsenal where he did fuchs all game

Really put a shift in tonight didnt he , he shows glimpses of magic nowhere near consistent

Be lucky to get 20 quid and bag of scampi fries for him.

He did okay, leave him alone. Got an assist, but Koslesniac did a job on him tonight, especially first half. still want +£45m

I'm not saying he was great tonight (he had a very good patch up to the third goal and after), but people wanting to sell him after this were basically sharpening the knives for 90 minutes. It's an overreaction, it's short-sighted and it's exasperating.

No help from the ref when he was fouled a few times! Thought he had a decent game, nothing exceptional and set vardys 2nd up with good corner. I will be gutted if he leaves, technically the most gifted player we will ever see in a Leicester shirt. But for £50 million we can't really turn that down if it gets offered

How much should we pay Roma to take him?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The day before they were arguing the toss about him being worth £50m to 70m. In 90 minutes during the Arsenal game he went from a £50m player, to a bag of scampi crisps to actually wanting to pay Roma to take him off their hands. Fickle bunch football fans.

Never trust a football fans opinion on a player that openly wants to leave. Opinions of Barkley, Walker, Rose, Sanchez and even Coutinho have changed recently because of the player being unhappy. Its actually hilarious.

Didn't get to see the match today as I was driving home. Listened on Sirius XM FC channel. Heard his name continuously throughout the match. Mostly good things happening and the commentators were quite complimentary of his play. I wouldn't mind if we signed him.

If he responds under Poch then title winning Mahrez will show up.....and that's a very good thing. I'd buy him in a heartbeat, have thought so for ages.
