Sigh, am not going to convince you, obviously. Mahrez averaged more interceptions in both 2015-16 ans 2016-17 than Eriksen, Lamela (15-16) and Alli and more tackles than all bar Lamela. To say he doesn't close down or can't do it is bonkers

Well to be fair Leicester have a lot more intercepting to do than us but fair enough.

Quite, .so you ought to accept that his stats that you bought up are pretty low because he's played for average teams...it works both ways.

He feels like the kind of player we used to buy in years gone by, a Bentley type - big money, big salary, one or two impressive seasons or moments, but lacking the kind of work ethic and true track record which marks him out as actually worth it.

We're past that kind of player now. Frankly he's not good enough for Spurs, as well as being completely the wrong type of personality.

Bentley entire premier league career: 18 goals and 24 assists
Mahrez 2015-2016: 17 goals and 11 assists

Honestly can't believe what I'm reading though I suspect threads about Mane would have similar quotes in them.

We'll be kicking ourselves if we don't sign him and let our rivals get him, he's unlike any player we have, someone who can beat his man and would thrive under Poch.

I just don't understand how anyone could be against this.

Doesn't really matter what we think. Our opinion doesn't determine the club's targets. We all talk a load of bollocks anyway.

Don't like his attitude, question his workrate, very unsure about his consistency.

For small money, I'd take him in a heartbeat. For medium money, I'd worry about him being a sulky presence on the bench. For big money, I'd steer clear.

40-50 million for Mahrez!?! 50 million for van Dijk?!? This is getting more than out of hands.

We have Lamela and I think he is better than Mahrez. So I'd rather see Lamela back next season (really hope he will!) than us splashing insane amount of money for Mahrez.

Lamela better than Mahrez?

At pressing maybe.

He had a bad season last year, but the season before that he was absolute dynamite. His stock has dropped now, meaning we might actually stand a chance of signing him, if we actually want him that is.

For the price he's going to cost I would worry about his mentality - he pretty much down tools and sauntered around doing fuck all when things weren't going well for Leicester last season. He has ability but I seriously doubt he has the ability to fight and desire to improve that Poch admires.

The person who was the best player in the Premier League in 15-16 is 'not good enough for Spurs'? Seriously? Sure, he may not get into our team every week, but he is lightyears ahead of the likes of Nkoudou and Sissoko.

Leicester won the league because they played as a team with everyone chipping in. Last season pretty much every player flopped but it doesn't mean they're now all crap. There are questions over Mahrez's work rate or lack of but we don't know what caused him to lose interest this season. Does it make him a bad player? May be but if we apply that thought process then the entire Leicester squad aren't up to the job which is ludicrous considering they won the league last season. We wouldn't have a hope in hell of signing Mahrez if he performed well this season so the fact he had a stinker could be a blessing in disguise subject to him being available for a sensible fee.

I can't believe the ill feeling towards this guy. He would offer so much to the team. Sod Barkley when you can have Mahrez! For his intelligence alone I'd have him over Barkley and Lamela. He does work when asked and would relish the chance to ping the ball around with the likes of Eriksen and Alli. We all love a bit of skill on the ball and winning free kicks as a way of retaining possession seems to be a huge part of us winning these days with Rose, Alli and Dembs doing it all the time, Mahrez won 50 fouls this season.

Just watch some YouTube clips of his movement and footwork then imagine all that being taught to Alli on the train pitch.

You mentioned one player and it was a poor comparison to Mahrez. What are other "Bentley types", happy to compare Mahrez to any of them. Toby? Wanyama?

Zaha is more a Bentley type than Mahrez... more showboating than end product and grossly overvalued.

But Nkoudou and Sissoko aren't good enough for Spurs either, so that comparison doesn't mean anything.

And yes the player who had the season of his life in 15/16 - completely at odds with every other season in his career - is not good enough for this current Spurs side.

Should we sign Michael Ricketts as competition for Kane? He fucking smashed it in 2001-2002. England international too.

He wasn't the best player, though. Yes yes yes, he got a political and scheming award, somebody at Leicester, the new pet of the nation, had to get it. But he wasn't the best.

Is it just that one season though? Take out the title winning season and see how he's done.

11/12 - Ligue 2 - 9 Apps - 441 Mins - 0 Goals - 1 Assist
12/13 - Ligue 2 - 34 Apps - 2398 Mins - 4 Goals - 6 Assists
13/14 - Championship - 19 Apps - 2818 Mins - 3 Goals - 5 Assists
14/15 - Prem League - 30 Apps - 2241 Mins - 4 Goals - 3 Assists
16/17 - Prem League - 36 Apps - 3766 Mins - 6 Goals - 4 Assists

Not that impressive to be honest. Not for someone on 100k+ a week.
Fair enough aside from the title winning year his stats are a bit mediocre. But I've a feeling he would do well in our team under Pochettino. Also I'd be more excited to bring him off the bench rather than Sissoko
