For £15-20m I'd say it's worth a punt to see if Poch can bring out the best in him.

For £50m he can piss off.

It's a pretty resounding no from SC posters so far..... and so it should be. He's not the type, not the age, not the level and not the consistency we should be after if we were to spend that sort of money..... which we won't anyway.

I think the thing that puts me off this the most is that it feels very much like a Sissoko style signing.

Would take in a heartbeat, for me has that X factor that we lack, class player that poch could work his magic on £30m seems about right!

How? Mahrez won Player of the Year last year, Sissoko was always average for Newcastle.

True but he strikes me as the sort of player who has his moments but ultimately would rather jizz his talent up the wall than put any effort in, which I think is the same for Sissoko.

Maybe I'm being unfair on Mahrez, but the way he just phoned it in this season was, to me, very reminiscent of our own 'keep it in the corner magician'.

The reality is, if we want to bring in someone who improves our starting 11 from last season, we're likely going to have to take a risk.

He wasn't so great last season, but when they won the title, he finished with a return of 17 goals and 10 assists, which was unreal. On top of that, he'd add some of that class and guile in the attacking third we sometimes lack, especially when Eriksen is having an off day and Lamela having missed the season (may not get back to his best).

Lemar is probably the better option, but he has several question marks too, the main one being whether or not we're capable of luring him. Taking that into account, I think Mahrez is at very least worth considering; maybe on deadline day if we haven't picked anyone up.

I think you're being harsh. Yes, he's not covered himself in glory this season, but there were extenuating factors. The whole morning after the night before seemed to affect a lot of Leicester's players, understandably, and the Ranieri revolt situation added on top of this. Plus there was the focus on the CL, where he did play well, as well as opponents in the PL figuring him out a bit more. All in all, it just all came together and he seemed to lose faith and confidence.

He's a decent PL player who had one outstanding season, no more than that for me.

I believe we were interested in him at one point but I think he has exposed himself this season.

His workrate is quite slack anyway but he really seemed to down tools this year, I do also think last season was a purple patch that he will unlikely ever repeat. If we can, I'd have Lemar over him easily.

Just can't see him putting the effort in that Poch requires. Great footballer but, as with Payet, lacks the drive and work ethic that is required for this Spurs side. Poch has shown that there is no place for luxury players anymore.

I am in the pro Mahrez camp...understand why the opposite opinion is so prevalent but ultimately think his talent is worth the risk.

Not going to write anything repeating what has already been said, BUT just wanted to point out that while many posters have called him a one season wonder, I did think Mahrez demonstrated he was a very good player two seasons ago. Of course he did not have a superstar season like last season, but I specifically remember a 1-1 draw where we gave us a ton of problems. Looked that way to me every time I saw him that season, without the statistics.

EDIT: Two seasons ago we did the double on Leicester. I still remember being impressed with Mahrez then, but maybe I'm blurring it all together.

Poch + mahrez = world class imo
Seriously this is a guy who has prem experience his contribution to Leicester has been phenomenal even when he was shit this season his stats still stack up.
He has pace trickery can finish and can cross. What more do you want - lemar? Zaha, Costa. Mahrez is exactly what we need, he could be our hazard.
