If Rafa really wants Keano as the linking ACM (or second striker), it's a strange one from Liverpool's point of view. Trappatoni has called Keano as the "Irish Totti" and is playing him as the linking striker for Ireland. However, Juande immediately moved Berba into the linking striker role for Spurs and has played Keano further forward. So, according to the reports, Benitez is prepared to pay around £20 million to play Robbie in a role that Ramos has rarely played him in.

I also can't see where Gerrard would play if Keano was Liverpool's linking striker/ACM. The scousers ended the season playing 4-2-3-1, with Mascherano and Xabi Alonso as DMs, Kuyt & Babel/Benayoun as the wide AMs, Gerrard as ACM, and Torres as the lone striker.

Barry is surely seen as a straight replacement for Alonso, and I can't see Gerrard playing next to Mascherano (or Barry) in a DM position, so presumably he'd be shunted out to one of the wide AM positions - which Gerrard doesn't particularly like.

All in all, pretty strange.

I don't know why this change is seen as so significant. It's not as if it made any real difference. Our results weren't any better as result of it, and neither Keane or Bebratov scored or created as many more goals. It's just a change, that has had no real effect on anything. In fact Keane has scored and created at a lesser rate. Last year he was the highest scorer in the Prem and at the start of the season he topped the attempts created rankings for a while. I agree it's a strange rumour and is almost certainly total rubbish, but the way Ramos had played will surley have no impact on how other managers would play him. If it had seen an obvious improvement in either his performances then maybe, but if anything it's had a negative effect. In the last 3 months of the season he only scored 3 times and for two of those (Reading and Chelsea) he played as the deeper striker.

Fwiw I think Ramos clearly favours a Kanoute or Berba (or Sheringham) type, with excellent close control as well as being good in the air, to play the "fulcrum" or linking role. Keano has very good technique, but he often dummies over the ball when it's played into his feet. Whereas Kanoute or Berba (or Teddy) will almost always bring the ball under control, hold it, keeping possession and looking for movement.

Whilst Keano was never going to be up to much in the air, I always hoped that he would develop into a Sheringham type of striker. There have been occasional glimpses, but for me whenever he plays deeper, he doesn't seem to have that instinct to keep hold of the ball that the other players mentioned do.

I agree it appears that Ramos prefers this, but I don't think the changes he has made would effect Benitez opinion on Keane and i suspect if Keane left for Liverpool or any other club, he'd usually play as the deeper striker. Had Ramoss changes been significant then it could have effected the way other managers view keane, but if anything they've been detrimental to his game.

Villa will not come to Spurs, and Keane is more influential than Berbatov (albeit not as talented), so I'd rather let Berba go. We'd get more money for Berbatov anyway, so we dont need to sell Keane to sanction a move for Villa, even though, as I said, Villa simply wont come.

Not as vital as a Villa or an Arshavin, I would argue.

One small (well really it's a big) problem neither of those players play for Spurs and doubt they ever will.

We can not sell keane for so many reasons.

1. selling to a club we consider a rival for next season.
2. this may persuade berbatov to go
3. there are a lot of changes to the squad already and a complete overhaul even in our strongest position would completely unsettle and unbalance the squad.
4. keane's value to the club is priceless
5. there is no striker that we could get to replace him who will in any way offer the same level of service.
6. HE IS A LEGEND!

Well...think of it this way......if Berba stays...we have him and....Villa? Dos Santos? Bent? Guiza? Podolski? u name them......would Keane stay if one of these comes in? Will he be in the starting 11 then?......

Could very well be happening....( I hope not ofc)

seriously, if we can get 20 million and Crouch for him, take the deal and sell Crouch and you're sitting on about 30 million pounds. Do it now!

but its a joke.
