Aye, fair play. A goal just over every 2 games for a team that has never scored enough goals isn't too shabby at all.

I doubt his goalscoring record for Ireland will ever be beaten.

I was discussing Robbie Keane's international scoring record with someone at work a couple of weeks ago. It's an incredible achievement really, considering the general lack of quality in the Ireland team, and the reduced number of opportunities to score due to rarely qualifying for tournaments.

My mate was dismissing it due to the types of teams Ireland have played, but for me that makes no sense. Lineker, Batistuta, and Muller (for example), didn't get all their goals against the very best teams. They picked them up consistently against the good and the bad.

Robbie Keane will always be a Spurs legend for me...it's just a shame he took the gloss off by boomeranging off of Liverpool. His legendary status for Ireland though cannot be questioned at all.

I've heard those arguments about Keane's goals being scored against lesser opposition before and while he has picked up a lot of his goals that way he has also scored against Germany, Spain, Netherlands and Italy with the Germany and Spain goals coming in the World Cup.

He's scored some vital goals for Ireland over the years and has scored plenty of those against teams ranked higher than his own. Unfortunately there are plenty of people, even in his own country, who continually knock him but for me he's had a fantastic career, made the most of his talents and deserves a lot more recognition for it than he gets.

Surely as they are ranked lower than England they have to play better teams than England in qualifying rounds so the argument doesn't stand up.
A national legend in a world where that word is banded about too easily he deserves it.
Another hatrick last night by the way.

No International Strikers only play against the best teams in the World. It's a mixed bag so the only advantage you'd have as an International Striker is by playing for one of the World's Best Teams. Sadly Ireland are far from being there. Fantastic achievement by Keano.

I would have thought the world's best teams generally have better strikers to choose from so there's more competition. Keane has been by far the standout striker we've had for the past 15 years so he gets to play much more.

Anyway. Not taking away from his achievement, I think the commentators said last night he's moved to 14th on the all time goalscoring record which is some going. Ahead of the likes of Batistuta and Eto'o and just one behind Drogba now who has 60 goals for the Ivory Coast. That's good company to be in.

Chuffed for Keano, a Spurs legend. Not only did he become his country's most capped player but he did it with style.

Shame he had to ruin his rep with us. If he stayed with us until the end he would have been a proper ledley style legend.

He is a massive legend for both spurs and for Ireland. The mistake with Pool doesn't phase how I feel for him as a spurs great. Shame he couldn't keep the standards up to be able to stay and finish his career with us
