According to the Times today Ramos is going after a new keeper in the transfer window as a priority. Now, I don't believe this is true, but if there is any truth to it what are peoples' feelings?

Seems a little foolish to me when half of the problem is our weak defence and it seems unfair to punish him for a short term dip in form.

Hope there's no truth to it.

I don't think it is true either. When Robinson is fully confident and in shape he is one of the best keepers in the country.

Recent matches with Cerny is goal has shown that the defence is the real problem. Get that sorted and Robinson back in shape with the new fitness coach then the Robbo of old should return.

when robbo is fit, confident, in form, not falling on his arse when taking kicks, not spilling relatively easy saves, coming for crosses, making a catch or two then he's great who needs a keeper -

Maybe so but.....there's a place that's called Europe and if you look up even further....the world.

And there's many keepers out there that's alot better than Robbo....and i guess costs less money.

Really? I didn't know that. Here was me thinking Britain was the only country on Earth. You must have aced your GCSE Geography

Let's focus on changing goalkeeper when the real problems are the defence and midfield. I would much rather have a goalkeeper that's one of the best in England (where only Cech and Reina are better than him) than continue with the current defence and midfield.

We could put Buffon in goal and still let in goals because no matter how good the goalkeeper is if the defence is total crap (which ours is) then you will continue to let in goals. Blackpool caused our defence problems.

Strength in depth, if Ramos feels Cerny is not good enough, he'll want a new keeper to run Robbo for a starting place, if the new keeper is better than Robbo, well thats good for us isn't it?

Never understand supporters not wanting the squad improved.

I think Ramos will give him a chance then if Robbo doesn't improve he will be shown the door.

But would Buffon consistently drop crosses and spill shots?

You can probably blame the defence for the lack of clean sheets and to some extent the goals from distance, but Robbo has consistently made individual errors for a good year.

It's no good having a good defence if he's going to drop shit.

Whoever told him to wear teflon-coated gloves needs shooting.

Finding a better keeper, or even one good enough to provide him with serious competition, is going to be a good deal easier said than done. I don't see Ramos seeking one in January, but it really is up to Robbo to prove he's up to the job. Perhaps with Wandering Hans gone the coaching will improve.

Replacing Robinson should be one of the three priority areas. As SS said, it won't be easy to find a truly top drawer keeper, and I am a little surprised that with the clubs current policy of procuring young potential (among other ages), the goalkeeping area seems to have been neglected a little. As goalkeepers are far rarer than outfield players maybe this is understandable. Personally I have always disliked Hans Segers. Firstly I don't understand why we had such a shit keeper who achieved nothing as our coach. I vehemently detested John Fashanu (and not just becuase he didn't have the bollocks to stand by his brother when he came out - Justin Fashanu was three times the footballer John ever was - or the Mabbut thing, or because he was accused of selling games with Segers help) for various reasons and Segers was one of his stooges. Why the club ever wanted to employ that grade a **** is beyond me.

On that front I'm a little disapointed on the appointment of Poyet. Lazy wanker who came here for the wages for a couple of years.

Back to the topic....

Robinson has a poor physique for a goalkeeper. He is too chunky. It effects his agility. He is poor at decision making. Both these things combine to make him terrible at crosses and handling, he does not command his area, his positional sense is out and shot stopping is at best very average.

I still feel that we should persist with Robbo as he is a potenially world-class goalie whose confidence has been shot.

The defence with Cerny in goal the last few games has shown the conceding of goals is not completely down to Robbo and we still have to bring in a new goalkeeper coach which could well have been the root of the problem?!?

We need to stop constantly trying to change the team and actually keep some continuity - I'm amazed that only Ledley King and Robbie Keane are our only real only real long serving players!

I wouldn't be surprised if Ramos goes for a more commanding goally. One of the features in his teams is that the back line plays high up in the pitch and for that you need an alert and quick goalie to come out of his line when the opposition plays the ball behind the back four. I don't think Robinson is that type of keeper.

Get Pat Jennings back as a full-time coach, not as a guest consultant as he is now I believe.

Apparently, we are interested in a serbian 23 year old keeper from Udinese, Samir Handanovic. But I'm sure if we get him it will be for cover

I don't know how accurate this is, but I heard (from a fellow Yid, mind you) that Robinson trains alone, doesn't listen to cocahes and only does his own thing. Is this true? If it is, then maybe Ramos wants a player who will take training and actually listen to what the coach is saying.

The two names that get most frequently mentioned are those of Marco Amelia and Tim Wiese. I haven't seen Amelia play for Livorno, and in any case it would be hard to judge as they're one of the wankiest sides in Serie A. I can't say I've been that struck by Wiese, and Werder have certanly let in quite a lot of goals this season. And there's Boruc, of course.

But as Ferguson found out when he was trying to replace Schmeichel, top keepers don't go on trees. That maniac Barthez, Carroll, Massimo Talbi…
