Paul Robinson will miss our trip to Newcastle on Monday due to a calf problem sustained playing for England in Russia on Wednesday evening.

Scans revealed this afternoon that the 28-year-old shotstopper has suffered a grade one calf strain.

"Paul was assessed this afternoon and it showed that he had picked up a calf strain while on England duty that will prevent him playing for us on Monday," reported Martin Jol.

Persistent injury that has hampered his ability to get down, jump, move to the left, move to the right, come out. Even affected his hands.

Apparently a grade one calf strain should keep him out of the team for two weeks, according to what I've just googled, so about five to six games.

Wonder how long before we get a thread on how bad Cerny is and how we look forward to the return of Robbo.

The lottery's rigged by postcode!
The US Government were behind 9/11.
Big Brother is watching on you every CCTV camera.

Run for the hills!

Oh. Sorry. I thought your cynical, conspiracy-loving minds might like some of those. :?

Not being funny or nuffink ... he could actually be injured?

Perhaps we should open a book on it.

Since we've conceded 8 goals in his last 5 First XI appearances, only two of which were against top-class opposition (I'm being nice to Braga), I'm not brimming with confidence, but we can but hope.

Whether the injury is real or not is irrelevant to me. All that matters is that he'll hopefully have a few games off, and come back stronger.
And Yeah, lose vs Newc and the 'Cerny is rubbish' threads will proably start....

I'd like to see us buy some proper competition for Robbo in Jan though. He needs to be pushed more for his place to get him back to the Robbo we all know and love.

I seem to remember someone (maybe SS57 or BoF) saying that we had never had a clean sheet with Cerny. A little worrying. He doesn't inspire me with confidence either, but if he's given a few games on the run, I guess anything can happen.

He's managed three: MK Dons last season, and against Boro and Blackburn in the league at the fag end of 2004-2005.

At the moment, our defence is quite capable of reducing Cerny to a gibbering wreck.

SS57 just pointed out he has in 3 games... i didnt know this, and agree with ss57 about our team being able to turn cerny into a compleate wreck

anything can happen, just not too hopefull lol would be good if he has a good few games to put preasure on robbo, maybe even keep him waiting for a game or two to maybe push him back to his best

ah ok. my bad. Sorry.

Yeah our defence is worrying too. A spurs supporting mate and me have nicknamed Kaboul 'Hollywood'...not that we don't like him, just he scares the crap out of us when he goes on a Gazzaesque run . I can't understand all the admiration for Chimbo either, he's cost us at least 5 points this season with his inability to get up in his own box. I'd much rather a solid Stalteri, and Lennon doing the attacking to be honest. Let Bale be the fullback getting forward, he's much better at it. Daws's inexperience is starting to show. Love the guy to bits, but he's had a very challenging 14 months or so, and desperately needs a mentor figure next to him at the moment.

So back on topic, I hope Cerny does the business, and I hope Robbo comes back stronger. Hope is one of the few things to hold onto this season and I wont let go!

In Jol I still trust!

I think a lot of people have wised up to him to be honest. half a good season for Wigan (1st half) and half a good season (1st half) for us is what I´ve seen. Made shedloads more costly mistakes than Stalteri. He´s started this season like he finished the last.

The most galling thing about this is that he has all the tools necesary to do the job - lots of talent. Whether it´s attitude or concentration he is lacking I don´t know. But´these are the 2 things Stalteri does not lack.
