Rochdale's groundsman getting the pitch ready for a match.

Pitch is a shocker but we are sounding like proper punanis in here, forfeiting the game would be the biggest over reaction on football.

Rochdale is the arse end of the world, Constantly raining, blowing a gale and views of dark, soulless and derelict satanic mills. Other than that it's a belting place to visit!

I would a absolutely 100% understand if we just refused to play there. Rather a WO than risking our players.

Talk of forfeiting game is most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. This could well be our best ever chance to win an FA cup with a possible home semi and final. I’m know sports science expert but I’d rather player on a soft sandy pitch than an artificial rock hard one. Just like playing on the bench. Will be awful football but actually doubt the injury risk is that high.

A soft sandy pitch is just as bad as a rock hard one.

You can’t plant your foot on a sandy pitch meaning a very high chance of ankle damage

Surely there's a case to sue the FA for letting the game go ahead at Spotland if players get injured playing on that pitch?

Seriously though if we have to play on that pitch I'd send out the kids.

Genuinely not worth playing on that sort of nonsense and I don't care if that makes us sound up our own arses etc. I wouldn't let my cats play on that pitch let alone £500m+ worth of playing assets.
Agree, not worth the injury risk to first team players just to go through to the next round. We all want to win the FA Cup, but at what cost? Injuries to Kane, Eriksen, Dele, Toby? No thanks.

I don't think anyone has suggested forfeiting the game have they? The argument is that the pitch is unsafe to play on and so the venue should be moved or something. If they make us play on that then we can't afford to risk any key players, simple as.

Playing on a soft, sandy pitch is just as likely (and arguably more likely IMO) to cause injury than playing on a rock hard one.

Not really the point though is it? There were plenty of things that were just part of life/football in the 70s that are unacceptable nowadays.

Plus there were far less physical demands placed on players then.

It'll depend what the weather's like. Last time they had a lot of rain the ref called the game off because the pitch was unplayable

At least in turns of how much running as well as twisting/turning etc. that the players do I'd definitely agree with you. The players are highly tuned athletes now and are required to perform as such, and that just isn't safe on a pitch like that.

Of course there were still physical demands in those days, but they were more related to how many kicks to the shin and elbows to the ribs you could handle :D
