I know Ajax has been hauling ass over there in the Netherlands, but is anyone else concerned about the weakness of that league? Heck the media coverage is almost non-existent. I'm all for a new manager, but maybe, just maybe, the BPL may just be a little to much for Frank? I'm not against him being given the reigns at the lane. Its just a dynamic that hasn't been touched on.

Totally agree with your concerns. The Dutch league isn't what it use to be but to FDB's credit, he's won it four times in a row.

My concern is when he's come up against good European opposition he's struggled.

Would we be better of getting Neil Lennon as he's also in a poor league but has had considerable more success in the European stage.

I'm only saying the latter in jest but I'm not overly excited by FDB as his track record doesn't allow me to be.

Even Steve McLaren won the Dutch league........
Could be argued that we should bring in Benfica or Porto manager seeing as Portugal is pretty much a 2 team league.

However, as has been mentioned already - no risk, no reward.
Chelsea picked up Jose from Porto (granted, he also won the UEFA/Europa with them), but look at the benefits they reaped!

Yeah that's the difference, he'd won the CL before he came to the Premier League.

I would see it being a similar path if we were getting Simone....but a better example of getting the Argentine would be Ferguson, as he broke a dominant monopoly in Scotland, similar to what Diego Simone is doing now.

Apologies for digressing.

Something is definately going on here. I reckon Levy was livid when Ajax blabbed. They probably did it cause theyre pissed off with us lol.
Another speculative theory....but then as usual the Club are not saying much.

Anyones gonna be a risk, only thing you can do is make the best educated assessment of a managers ability to do the job.

FdB would be an intresting choice. He's young, already had some success (four consecutive Dutch titles for the first time ever), fabulous playing career with loads of European experience, four seasons of CL experience as manager also.

If he comes, he could take Niklas Moisander, Ajax's top centre-back with him. He would get the best out of Eriksen as well and could convince Verts to stay.

As others have said the Dutch league is not of the standard it once was.Ajax dominate it with some of the teams being only the size of
league 1,league 2,teams.This is Heavyweight versus middleweight at most.
Any record gained with the huge advantages that Ajax hold has to be put into perspective, and on that basis it's a no from me.
What We need is a fully proven manager, someone who has done it in amongst the bigboys.Putting personality to one side it has to be Benitez.

The more I read, the more I think this could well happen. All the quotes are pointing in the right direction. If so, we may get our Vertonghen back, the one that was in the PL team of the year, not our current one.
Interesting to see which of his coaches he brings, and if he retains any of ours.

As nice as it is to have former players as coaches I would let Frank over hall the whole lot, keep a loyal few with promise but it's the new bosses show.

As I've mentioned before, I wouldn't mind it if he kept Freund in some capacity (and perhaps utilised Ian Broomfield on the scouting team as well)....Lastly, if he brought along Jaap Stam to whip our boys on the defense into fighting shape, that would "take the cake". :hungry:
