I do love the real Ronaldo. Still think Messi eclipses him by some distance, and certainly eclipses that selfish greasy fuck-nugget at Madrid.

You can't mess with Messi's numbers, or trophies. I don't know what it is though, maybe it's just because R9onaldo was my hero while i was growing up and in school. But i'd prefer to watch him in his prime than Messi. Only just though, 2 of my favourite players of all time along with Ronaldinho. If only they were all at Barca in their peak at the same time

Such a shame to think we'll probably never see that combination of pace, power, dribbling ability, finishing and composure again

Hold your horses, we don't know if Poch will try Sissoko up front in the pre season tour of Asia!

As good as Messi is, if you were picking teams like back in the school playground Ronaldo would be first, then Messi, then probably Kane and then maybe Ronaldo 2.

Ronaldo was amazing, but Messi is better than he was.

Messi can dribble and kick a ball well but if you put Ronaldo in his Barca team for a decade with no injuries he'd have at least as many goals and titles, probably more.

Naw, mayne. I think Ronaldo's three strengths were dribbling, finishing and explosiveness - imo, Messi beats him in every department. This isn't to say I prefer Messi as a player, R9 is my favourite non-Spurs player ever (maybe next to Totti) but Messi is superhuman.

I'd say Ronaldo was faster and at least equal in dribbling and finishing. Don't forget he played back when men were men, even if they weren't quite as manly as back in the 60's. I don't know why that would be important but I feel it adds a bit of moxie to my argument.

How? Ronaldo did it only multiple platforms, multiple stages. The likes of Ronaldo and Zidane set the benchmark for modern greats and the likes of Messi havent reached that level. There is a world of difference between the national Messi and the club one.

Ronaldo's Brazil was quite a lot better than Messi's Argentina, to be fair. Messi also won player of the tournament at the last World Cup, he's won champions leagues, leagues, all the cups he's been in. Ability-wise I'd rate it Zidane > Messi > Ronaldo9, but it's all subjective and down to opinion I guess.

Which was one of the biggest farces we've seen, even he knew that.

As for that Brazilian side well it only just qualified for the tournament and he scored 8 goals in the finals and virtually won't it alone for them.

Ronaldo proved himself to be one of the best in the international game, he also did in both Spain and Italy the two best leagues at the time. He proved himself on every platform, across multipe different teams, Messi in comparison hasn't

And the Barca team Messi is in has been at least equal to if not better than every team Ronaldo has been in. The only team that comes close is his Real Madrid team but even they were just packed with star names but not really a great team.

Ronaldo was pure power aswell. Could physically dominate his opponents if he had to.

Don't know if I agree with your assessment of the two International teams. Messi's Argentina was stacked full of world class players. The only reason you are saying the Brazil side is better is because it performed where as the Argentina one didn't.

I don't think using international records as an indicator for success is right. Messi did drag them, almost single handedly, to the last World Cup final. The Brazil side was definitely better and more balanced than Messi's Argentina. Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Cafu, Kaka, Lucio, Roberto Carlos, Gilberto Silva, Ronaldinh and Dida - they had world class players everywhere. Argentina currently have insanely good attackers, but their defence is average and there's no team cohesion.

As much as you can say Messi hasn't won anything internationally, Ronaldo never won the champions league - but it doesn't detract from his ability at all imo.

Yeah that's all fair enough. For me ronaldos Strength and physicality makes him the more complete player.

Case closed.

I actually prefer Ronaldo as a player, I just think Messi is technically the best of my lifetime.

Agree.

When Ronaldo went on one of his (numerous) runs, he was so strong that the only way to stop him was by doing it illegally.
