I think Poch has shown the opposite, we don't need marquee signings - just players who can make us better. If we sign two players who have the same impact as Wanyama or Alderweireld then we'll get stronger. If we don't have so many injuries to key players (Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Winks, Lamela, Kane all missed significant periods last season) we could be another 6 or 7 points better.

I thought we sold the tent after the Bale money debacle.
We are coming guys without 'marquee' signings.
You do it your way: we'll do it ours.
Every team in the world is just two signings away from world domination.

With a Big signing comes high wages - are we ready to pay that? What would our other players think?

But that's a debate for another thread.....

BBC article.

I think he is right. Not just for the fans, but to re assure the players we mean business. They are no doubt being offered lots more money elsewhere. We need a big signing to lift the spirits.
Don't get me wrong, the fan in me would LOVE a marquee signing but I wonder whether, assuming that the club is working to a (relatively) tight budget that money would be better spent on tying the players that we wouldn't want to lose down to new contracts on higher salaries to compete with other clubs in and around us.

Don't really agree with him. We need to sign the right players to round the squad out.

Now if that involves us signing a player for plenty of money, who is exactly what we need and has the mentality to buy into what Poch demands then great.

I'd say the last thing we need is just spending big money for the sake of it, potentially on a player who wouldn't be a good fit for the squad or worse yet disrupts things.

Ardiles, on Thursday, was asked if there will be any big signings and he replied 100% no.

Reading that makes me believe Danny is going nowhere! (y)
I also understand what he's saying, when it comes down to the individual, what are their hopes and aims?!! If their motivation is 'I'm worth more money' in terms of wages then we may struggle to keep those players, if their motivation is personal improvement and a desire to repay the manager for that improvement, those players are more likely to stay. As Rose says, it all depends on the individual.

It sounds like he's staying to me too. He's just an honest bloke who speaks his mind.

When asked why players would leave, he is trying to see reasons why they might. That's honest. No point saying 'I can't see why they would ever leave'

Listening to the radio interview, he went on to say we need to find the next Dele. Which is probably what he meant really.

What spirits need lifting?
I know. The spirit in the camp must be awful. I mean we finished the season 1-6 and 1-7 respectively. With a highest points tally ever for us, which in many other seasons would have won the league.

I cannot imagine how they are feeling at the moment

I don't agree with the notion we need a marquee signing. We need to get quality in every position x 2.

A squad that is flexible to Pochettinho system change with a bit more pace.

We have marquee players already imo Kane Alli Eriksen Lamela.

With two of my dream marquee wants definitely not coming (Isco and Silva) who is at that kind of level that we could realistically get assuming we were willing to match a high fee and push the boat out on wages ?

Think we already have the marquee players but as they are already here we do not count them as such.
If we were to sign say Kane now after his previous three seasons somewhere else he would be a massive coup for us, a real marquee signing.
We have more than a few at the club already .
