I started writing out a big post about why everything points to RB not signing for us and, by extension, chelski instead. But then i realised their manager is big Sam!

Since he’s no stranger to the brown paper envelope, we should pay him to convince RB that he will play him regardless of what the Everton board think. I mean, would Everton really be petty enough that that they would sack another manager in the same season for giving game time to a player who mugged them off? :barefoot:

The World Cup year has ruined everything, can’t really blame him for wanting to showcase himself in whatever gametime he can get so he’s on the plane. Every footballing kid has dreamt of going to it, and even more so when it only comes around every 4 years.
  • Everton top level management have been spiteful so far (which they are entitled to do, we’d do the same) and they have no incentive to let him play out his final 6 months with guaranteed game time. It’s uncertain whether him playing after such a long lay-off could affect their chances of climbing up the table to rake in more money. On the contrary, if he is played; him being off the pace or to eager to impress could cost them points. It’s clear that he won’t be staying beyond his contract. It really doesn’t make sense for them to play him.
  • A reasonable person would dispose of their ‘onerous lease’ asap, but football is not reasonable. The cost of keeping him and his wages on the books for 6 more months is a small price to pay for Everton to show their players and other clubs that they will not be be held to ransom.
  • Only an offer too good to refuse is worth conceding the matter of principle outlined above. We aren’t going to make that offer. DL, as a businessman, would be stupid to make an offer of £20m for what he can get ‘free’ in a few months time. The only thing that could convince him is it’s impact on his relationship with Poch. From our itk insight of DL, he has history for messing his managers about...
  • Chelski have the money and motivation to screw us over (fuck them), let alone the fact that they would still be an attractive option for RB and seemingly do genuinely want him. If it comes to a bidding contest where we offer £5m and chelski offer £10m but RB refuses to sign for them, Everton are definitely spiteful enough to hang on until the last day of the window for us to make the same bid. If we don’t, RB either loses major footing in negotiating his Chelski contract or stays to rot for 6 months and doesn’t go to Russia.

It will all be in vain for him anyways, because England won’t be winning major trophies under Southgate anytime soon, let along the forthcoming World Cup. He may come good under the system at Conte’s chelski, but that’s provided they don’t take another ride on the manage merry go round.

I really, really want this one to happen. But anyone who thinks this would be a simple £15-20m is hugely optimistic. It’ll be at least 25 with Chelsea in the mix. Ox was £40m in the summer with a year left on his deal ffs.

Liverpool are free to bid £40 million for him if they like, they're probably the only ones prepared to lay out that much.

I'm still not on board with this idea that he is a risk, it's not like we are likely to pay an enormous amount and if he turns out to be only 80% of the player he might have been without the injury, which is extremely unlikely anyway, we'd still make a profit on him by selling him to Stoke or some similar club.
His career is not over, that just ain't going to be the case.
It was a risk when Everton were playing silly bollocks asking 50m for him last summer and you still had a lot of our fans saying we should just pay up. I'm happy for him to come for free in summer or <10m in January, because then it's not a risk for all the reasons you've mentioned.

Why do people on here care about how much he would get in wages and the risk factor etc.....you guys arent BDM's or Directors for Spurs lol. I only care about the talent we would get and imo he would be worth a purchase in Jan.
Because unlike certain other clubs, we don't have an unlimited amount of money to spend, therefore if we put all our eggs in one basket and pay over the odds for a player who then doesn't work out, then we don't have enough money to buy anyone else or give a key player a better contract and so on. Simple really. City can afford to spend 50m and 200k/week on a player because if he doesn't work out, they can just "take the hit" and sign another 50m player.

Except we are not talking about spending 50 mill or 200k a week. Barkleys people even came out and denied the reports of 100k a week plus no ITK has claimed he will be super expensive. The issue is his injury and his recovery.

Also my whole point was some people on here are getting too wrapped up in things none of us have a real clue about. I feel like a few people arent reading posts properly.

I agree the main issue with Barkley now is his injury because his contract is running out so we wouldn't need to pay that money for him like Everton wanted in the summer.

As for not reading your post properly, what you said and what you're now saying your point was aren't the same thing. You didn't say anything about people not having a clue, you said why do people care how much we spend, so I told you why.

Well it was clear to me but maybe I should have been clearer. I agree that we cant spend ridiculous amounts on one player but I dont think that argument applies to Barkley. Anyway lets just see what happens with him, Levy and Poch.

It is mad, he made over 150 appearances for them. I think Everton will actually come back stronger in a few years, but you can't blame RB for wanting out looking at their performances this season and when they are lingering in mid table.

He is not even leaving for money reasons, as he would have joined Chelsea in the summer. He is leaving to join, or hopefully joining, a manager who has built a reputation on building English players and getting them into the national team. I can't believe the abuse he is getting from their fans.

I understand Everton fans being upset that he has run down his contract but he did want to go before last summer and Everton could have made some money on him.
Actually Big Sam pretty much confirmed Ross was leaving soon after he took over, I remember thinking he's obviously spoken to him and accepted it.
