I'd like to think that I'm not blinded by the hype that Carlos Kickabouts often bring if linked to Spurs.

But what I am going to state...

I understand that Barkley could represent good business. You know, minimal transfer fee in current climate at worst.

I also understand that he may develop under Poch's guidance.

But, he just doesn't seem to do it for me. I don't think I really rate him. I certainly wouldn't want him to be the long term Dembele replacement.

Maybe I haven't seen enough of him, I've seen him hit a few decent goals from distance, but standout performances, don't really recall.

Just don't think he's going to improve us to reach a higher level. Not feeling it.

I suppose the attraction is the aforementioned, cheap risk, with the chance of recouping money laid out at worst.

I think he sat quite high last season in the chance created stakes, but we all know that stat can be somewhat misleading.

Squad needs depth for sure, but maybe I'm seeking an improvement as opposed to another "he can do a job."

More than happy to be proven wrong if he joins up. Like I say, just not feeling it.

Does that equate to me wanting a player from abroad instead. Nope. I just want the best we can afford and secure in every position. Backed up by the very best we can afford and secure.

I like the idea of Barkley. Problem is the injury and lack of game time, but if we view it as a signing for next season then it's fine - albeit risky to wait for his contract to expire, unless he has his heart set on Spurs over anyone else now or in the summer.

I don't think he's pushed on as he could have in the last few years. Everton is or was a stagnant club with a lack of investment, not very good managers in Martinez and then Koeman, and no ability to do more than just exist in the Premier League until their recent investor came along. If he can get back on track, benefit from playing in the Spurs midfield under Poch and the team, find that spark again, then 10m or whatever it ends up being now with 6mths of training and rehab ahead of next season, or at least a full pre-season then it's a good option for the squad.

I think Lukaku might be happy to have Barkley behind him again, challenging for the golden boot last season has scored four league goals since Harry Kane scored his first goal this season.

For the price that he's likely to go for, I think we'd be silly not to snap him up. As has been mentioned, if it doesn't work then we'll sell him to a mid table club and make a tidy profit but I think he'll be a good addition to the squad and will help us rely less on the like of Son, Erikssen and Alli. Depth is something we're lacking and he'd really help us I think.

He suffered a shocking hamstring tear. Did he have an avulsion injury? The stitches on his thigh look a lot like that. A complete tear within the muscle is sewn back together using stitches. I don't know. He may be a bargain but our medical staff may want to see him play just to make sure he is completely recovered.

Would really like to see what he could become under Pochettino. We play so many different formations these days that all the "he can't play DM gripes" some people had with him this summer can now be laid to waste. He'd give us another very good option, and a midfield three of him, Dier and Alli (in the rare occasion that we rest Eriksen) would be interesting.

Also like that he's got some physicality along with his other abilities. Would fit very well into our team that way.

I think they are unlikely to see that at Everton.

Providing his price is as low as we'd expect - you have to bear in mind that what Levy is willing to pay (say vs. Chelsea) will be pretty low.

I agree though, it should be low enough to make the general risk worthwhile here, especially if he's interested in us.

The fact he rejected Chelsea and the higher wage most probably on offer shows he's serious about his own development as a player. He has the talent, if his attitude is right (which it seems to be) and he is willing to listen and learn he will reach his potential under Poch's tutelage.

I think/hope this is the case if we're serious on him and the deal is still viable.

I think Poch could do great things with him and people forget that we only really got the best from the likes of Dembele after Poch arrived - so there's always room for a high level of improvement with players who have a lot of strong technical parts to their game.

Would be disappointed to miss out on the lad. Think he could be a good addition to the squad, giving competition for Eriksen and someone else capable of scoring from outside the box which is invaluable against teams who try to set up to defend

The only justification in not getting this done from our end is the injury is worse than we realise, and it could have a genuine long term effect. A minor setback is nothing in the grand scheme of things. As people have pointed out, it wouldn't be wasted time or money, he can start work on getting to know the team, the way we play, the way we think - Poch doesn't throw new signings in straight away anyway, so if he did join today injury free, he'd still be a couple of weeks away from actually starting a game for us.

He's an experienced player from the Premier League, with good ability and a good ceiling. Would definitely improve us, and Poch would improve him. Rather sign him than take a risk on a foreign import who could go either way.

I'm a supporter of Levy, I think the way he has transformed teh club has been exceptional - but if we miss out because he would rather play games to save £5-£10m then i'd be hugely miffed. A fit Ross Barkley on a long contract is a £50m player in today's market regardless of how highly people rate him.

Well poch has already said regarding some other issues that fan's must trust levy and so we have no choice other than place the trust in him and see what he delivers all round.

I'd say Barkley's explosiveness would be one of the key things that interests us with him, he is deceptively quick and powerful (see the solo goals vs Newcastle I think), these are under serious doubt with this injury.

Stuff like the fact he retains and carries the ball well and his moments of magic won't be affected but I think Poch would have liked the physical side of his game as much as anything.

I'd like to see us take the punt on him still as it must have took balls to turn Chelsea down in the summer, in the hope we went back in.

So if we don't get Barkley this window it's safe to assume Poch isn't being backed.

The above is taken from the ITK thread

I would hazard a guess the medical staff would have a part to play in this and not only Levy and the purse strings ... Obviously I could be wrong.

I like Barkley and think he would be a great addition to the squad especially at the price he is likely to go for. It's a no-brainer for me and I can see why Poch wants him.

If he comes to us he'll be on a big wage and we won't be palming him off to a mid table team any time soon.

If poch is desperate for him and the fee will clearly be a pittance in comparison to what English players are currently going for.

It's a no brainer for me. The previous hype over him alone will ensure we could sell him for a tidy sum, even if he wasn't a success.

If poch seems to think he can develop him, then I'm more than happy to trust in poch. He's earnt that.
