Rooney should play up front...like he's being doing for years before he got that silly idea he can play mid field.

Ross Barkely IMO should look at Bale as Bale looked at Ronaldo become a much fitter athlete....the technical abilities are there.
Rooney doesn't have the legs anymore to play up front or to be honest as an effective midfielder.
Bale has blistering pace, which Barkely does not and this is a massive attribute of Bale

Barkley doesn't have Bale pace, few do. But he's got that Gazza like burst over 5 yards to go past the defender, and then the strength to hold off challenges.

I really think it's all in his head at the moment. He's probably decided he needs a change of scene, and a new challenge. If the right manager can get hold of him, he could be a very potent weapon.

Still think he's wrong for us though.

Better than Carroll. Its about building a stronger squad to compete with the top four. He is not first choice but we need back up players who are £30m+. Either by coming through the youth system or transfer market. Just the way it is. If Poch wants he will get my support. I wasn't sure about Sissoko but if he keeps improving he is will be worth the investment.

But spending £25-£30m to replace someone who hardly plays is insanity. We really need to spend that money on someone who immediately improves on or challenges Eriksen, Alli and the rest. If we're looking to buy someone to develop and sit out of the matchday squads like Carroll - lets buy that Leo Silva Lopez from Peterborough for £8m rather than Barkley.

The idea of this transfer is pure madness.

All I am pointing out is that there are not many £8m players out there who can hit the ground running to help ensure that we push on for Europa, FA Cup and top four. LSL is not what we need. Call it mad if you want but you will not add anything more to our squad for less. Its the way football is. If Poch thinks he will strengthen the squad then I support him.

As for Shadydan...can you let me in on the joke?

I really hope we can get Barkley. Feel hes the kind of player we should sign give the oppertunity. Hopefully working with Poch would do him good.

My mates that are Evertonians are desperate for us to sign him which tells you all you need to know about Barkley.
No pace, no energy and nothing special.

It's funny that as soon as a player shows an indicaton he's not going to sign a new contract and leave, a lot of the fans start saying he's rubbish, and good riddance. Attempting to soften the blow perhaps.

Well whenever I've seen him, he has been dreadful.

Maybe, but he has been poor for a while.

It could be that he is not fitting into Koeman's playing style or maybe he is at a stage where he requires a new challenge.

But then he could just not be that good or have a poor attitude. Hard to tell.

If Tom Carrol played for Peterborough you'd all be creaming yourselves over him......

Not sure where the gap for him is in our squad. We have Lamela and Sissoko who ideally play off the right, Son and Nkoudou who seem to play exclusively on the left, Eriksen and Alli who both prefer playing down the middle but as they are the two best/ most trusted one will usually play on the left. I actually like him a lot but his is the most bloated position we have.

He could potentially play deeper but he's not a patch on Dembele and would hinder his he progress of Winks.

I personally think that anybody we brought in would have to be most comfortable either on the right, or centrally but with a left foot. Even then, we'd need to sacrifice one of Lamela or Sissoko. There's also an issue of the upcoming Marcus Edwards to consider, if he's as good as is hyped then I certainly don't want potential cup game time being afforded to keeping lesser talents from getting ring rust.

In short, we have a very good pack, we should only ruffle it if someone exceptional is attainable, and the can offer our first team a skill set we currently lack. Isco, of course. Draxler potentially. Mahrez maybe. Barkley just doesn't seem to fit.

Of course all this changes if someone wants to leave.

There's nothing to this rumour. It's agent talk. He's not good enough for Spurs. Nothing like a Poch signing either. He's been dog shit in every game I've see him this season and his career post Everton will be downward.

What makes you think it isn't a Poch signing?

That point is open to debate, I.e. whether he has the qualities Poch likes in a player, but it's a moot point really as he just isn't good enough, won't improve us and wouldn't get in our team - he struggles to get in Everton's even.

I think Barkley should be converted to a deeper midfield role as I don`t see he has the creativity to play as a number 10 but has the engine and power to be box to box possibly

He has been tried there by Martinez and Hodgson, with very little positive results.

Let's get Bale back then. The club could get the Haringey Advertiser to print stories to unsettle him and Levy could nip in with a last minute bid once Real have been softened up.

Thinking about this more and more - this could be a Levy persuading Poch to take on a player with a contract running down whose value will instantly increase on the balance sheet once purchased.
