I'm not very excited about Ross and but I wouldn't be against the deal if it was bit of a discount deal type. We aren't crying out for Barkely and we have plenty of good young midfielders coming through the academy so we can be patient.

It's not two years ago though is it? He has not proved himself at all in the past couple of seasons, he has the odd moment when he looks like he could be a very good player but most of the time he flatters to deceive. There is a reason why he has lost his place in the England squad and Everton.
Still a quality player, and someone we need; experienced, young, with louds of talent. Poch likes these challenges. Example; not long ago some were slating Rose and Walker especially. I also remember those who didn't reckon much of Kane.

It's not really about top level players, the large majority accept we cannot attract those, it's more about the type of player - adding Barkley would just be another physical, strong body to go with Sissoko, Wanyama. I think everybody understands that Poch wanted to make us a powerful outfit, but the balance is not quite right at the moment. We need a little more guile and tecnhical ability, and he doesn't offer that.

I'm reading it as a probable replacement as Dembele

We need quality players now not in 2-3 years. Our squad lacks depth and Barkley will help bulk our quality.

I don't think he will though. He's another young player, who's inconsistent as he tries to figure out his own strengths and weaknesses and put it together regularly.

Can't ever see him having the defensive discipline to play in a cm2

I agree with u we need quality now I just don't think Barkley can guarantee that, he's showed at Everton he's still vary raw and he'd be a project just like any other youngster, only he'd be more expensive then the usual young players we buy, and has already picked up bad habits.

No he won't. Why would we spend £35m on a player who wouldn't get into our best team? We need to be signing a truly creative attacking midfielder. Not Barkley who can only play in the middle and isn't better than Eriksen at 10 or Dembele deeper.

He's decent technically but he's all brawn and no brain. We've got far too much of that as it is already.

The idea of what Poch could do with Barkley excites me. He's talented and capable, but has been badly/ inconsistently coached for the last few years.

yeah, I think we need to remember he's been coached by Roberto Martinez for pretty much all of his PL career. Poch could definitely do well with him

Barkley can def play in Dembeles
Position or a no 10. Is hugely talented and a worker. Young and English ticks every box for me. Just not sure we have a spare 35 million

imo Would prefer to go for somebody like Ante Coric, Franck Kessie .Mahmoud Dahoud than R Barkley. and would probably cost less

But he's not as good as Dembele or Eriksen in their positions. Why would we spend £35m(!) on him? We've got enough central midfielders as it is who're struggling for game time, the last thing we need is to spunk all our money on another benchwarmer.

If we have a spare £35m then we need to use that to buy a player who's going to genuinely improve our attacking 3 behind Kane. Barkley isnt that. Give Onomah a proper chance in his actual position first before pissing away all our money on another decent but not special player that just gets in his way.

It's about opinions. I think poch can turn him into a superstar. Had onimah done anything to suggest he can become that in the next year or so

Barkley's never gonna be a superstar. Good technique, decent feet, good long shot but he's got no vision. You can't teach that, if you could then Dembele would be playing for Madrid.

Onomah's not started one game for us in his actual position yet so I'm not sure what you expect him to do when he gets 3 minutes at the end of matches on the wing. He's a serious talent that we've spent 10 years developing so to just give up on him and spend £35m on Barkley would be incredibly frustrating.

From what I have seen of Onomah so far, I think you are being very optimistic. I hope you are right, but to be honest, I think Barkley (who I don't rate that highly) has 10 times the talent of Onomah, who has looked painfully average to me so far.

be patient with josh he's still a very young lad, there's still plenty of time and the best is yet to come, all he needs is meaningful minutes

As I said, he's a central midfielder getting the odd minutes at the end of games out of position on the wing/up front. He's not able to play his natural game. TBH I think he just needs to just add some muscle to help him adjust to the mens game.

Heres a good vid showing what he's about at CM for England.
