Good lad! I guess we were only willing to go up to 20m or so and Everton wanted the max they could get, knowing Chelsea would cough up.

I reckon so. Their chairman seemed pretty pissed off with him on SSN last night. Reckon he was annoyed they didn't get the cash in after spending so much this window.

If clubs are naive enough to allow their players to run down their contracts they need to accept the consequences. Either sell with two years left or expect to receive a very low fee (or even zero) as the contract approaches the expiry stage.

Everton can only blame themselves for the mess they are in.

Fair play to Ross, he knows where he wants to go and didn't want to be forced to the blue scum.

The Chelsea move was all about Everton and they tried to force Barkley into that move for their benefit knowing it wasn't the best move for him.
Everton has gone down in my estimation this summer, Ross Barkley made it clear to them that he wanted the chance to play for England but has said nothing publicly all summer, he has respected the club and they have not done right by him.
When Berahino kicked up people blamed him saying he should have kept quiet and respected his club then he would have got his move, well this summer has blown that theory out of the water hasn't it.
edit:
Just to add, Barkley has gone up in my estimation enormously this summer.

All goes to show Barkley is a great lad proper.. Really hope we can sign him comes January immediately to reward that attitude. Will definitely fit right in with the English guys in our squad.

Think this has to be on in January now. Barkley has shown all summer he's waiting for the right move, and turning down Chelsea's money confirms it's for footballing reasons not cash. I think it points very much to him waiting for us, and you'd have to assume we made that call to hold on.
My only concern is whether or not we can still agree a fee in January, given the storied last night about Everton refusing to deal with us. If Chelsea weigh in with big money in January, and we don't match it, where does that leave us.
Barkley knows he needs to be playing, so given his injury anyway, he has nothing to lose by hanging out till January, but by then he'll be fit, and if Everton aren't playing him, he's going to get nervous. We need to be able to agree a fee, and I worry Levy will try and screw them down too far based on being inside the last six months.
I think Barkley is prepared to sit tight till January, but don't think he'll stay till next summer. We should be on this Jan 1st as a sign of intent.

Gee I love how we Willian'd Chelsea today. You can say what you want about the rest of the window but I'm childish enough to rejoice at that happening!

You could say that we did 3 Willians over Chelsea in this window (albeit via different ways) - Aurier, Llorente & Barkley.

He doesn't have to go to the highest bidder. Everton have painted themselves into a corner. The only thing they can do is turn us down in which case Barkley most likely comes to us for free 6 months later.

Quite happy with the way this panned out. Everton were clearly holding out for the Chavs to match their ridiculous valuation. Had Chelsea not been interested we'd have probs got him for £20m or so. Really hope we dont mess around too much in January, the lad is clearly desperate to play for us and he's got the talent.

Moshiri, who owns the largest stake in Everton (49.9%) and his business partner, Usmanov, were co-owners of Red & White Holdings, which as of June 2012 owned nearly 30% of Woolwich Wanderers. Moshiri sold his interest in Le Scum to Usmanov in 2016. This connection probably explains why Moshiri has been so reluctant to do business with us, because there's no such thing as a coincidence. It's a shame that such a classless **** has dragged Everton down to such a level.

Edit: I've just found out that Usmanov's company, USM (probably one of several he owns or part-owns), currently owns the naming rights to EFC's training ground, Finch Farm. With Usmanov's large shareholding in Le Scum, that's a clear conflict of interest, I'd have thought.

I'd like to see us make an offer well before January.

With Chelsea signing Drinkwater, could it be likely they won't come back in for him in January anyway. I think we are in pole position. 20M should do it.

Barkley walking away from that medical was a "game changer" but do Everton understand that?

If they have got the hump with Levy...there are reports they were refusing to deal with us...you would expect them to do the same again in January

Except they can't now...not now they know Barkley has got an independent mind and is prepared to say no to any alternative offers they might want to accept.

Deal could potentially be done very early in January...except...except I wouldn't put it past Levy to spin it out even more to save a few more pennies

If Barkley got a call from us asking him to wait until January then I would imagine there is a Gentleman's agreement this will be done early window.
