£30m, even if over the odds for a player entering the last year of their contract at his current level f ability, would still be better spent on him than anyone else, because any other player available at £30m will not be as good as Barkley.

Everton won't sell Ross Barkley on the cheap despite renewed interest from Tottenham

Blues will demand at least £30m for England midfielder - with Spurs keen to do a quick deal

Everton will not be forced into selling Ross Barkley on the cheap – despite a growing acceptance that the midfielder's future lies away from Goodison Park.

Tottenham are keen to sign the England international, with reports this weekend suggesting the Londoners were hoping to wrap up a deal before departing on their pre-season tour of the United States on Wednesday.

Barkley did not travel with the Everton squad for their trip to Tanzania this week, with the official club line being that he was receiving treatment on a groin injury.

Manager Ronald Koeman confirmed that in a press conference after Thursday's win over Gor Mahia, but admitted that it was “not a clear situation.”

Barkley is into the final year of his Blues contract, and despite Koeman repeatedly warning of the need to “sign or go” there has been no sign of a resolution this summer.

Everton have already signed two players – Davy Klaassen and Wayne Rooney – who play in a similar position, and are targeting another in Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Barkley, though, will not be allowed to leave for a knock-down price, and Everton will ask for at least £30m for the 23-year-old.

There is no financial need to sell this summer, and the Blues are adamant that they will not be bullied into selling on the cheap – especially with Swansea adopting a similar stance over the Sigurdsson.

They are also aware that Tottenham were able to hold out for more than £50m for Kyle Walker this week, and have noted the inflated fees across the Premier League this summer.
I think this might point to a deal being struck fairly soon. Someone has fed the Echo this new figure, which is some way off 50 million. I don't think it'll be resolved in the next week or so, but this feels like a club using stealth articles to slowly soften their stance

It's not an exorbitant amount for a player with his talent. Will be great to have some more creativity in the side and on the bench
When you consider that transfer fees of £50m+ are becoming more and more frequent these days, I'd say that £30m or so is reasonable in such a crazy market. If Danny Boy can haggle them down a bit from £30m, all well and good, but £30m is more likely, if we're being realistic. If Poch wants Barkley, and he and his staff can do a great coaching job with him, then pony up the cash and bring him in ASAP.

Levy should offer £24M if a deal is signed before Thursday. Make it clear that £2M will be subtracted from that offer for each passing week, ending at 10M on deadline day.

Then stick to it without hesitation or second thoughts.

I think Barkley gets done this week. I am probably reading too much into things, but with some ITK that Poch is not particularly happy with transfer dealings, I look at Walker's sale as Levy bending to Poch's will. The timing seems rather clear that Poch did not want Walker in the building as a distraction, and so the deal was finalized the day before Walker was to report. I suspect Levy would have preferred to drag the negotiations out, trying to find a few more quid in the deal.

So, I think (hope?) Levy will bend a little on Barkley and not hold out to the very last minute, as we have seen in the past few windows, and pay a little more to get him into camp.

Walker was sold now because city missed out on daniel alves and the upped the bid to a level Levy was satisfied. Nothing to do with Levy bending to Poch's will

If anything happens I think it will be an 'undisclosed fee' because Everton have to come way, way down on what they've said and won't want to lose that much face. Either that, or it drags on and fizzles out.

I agree and the deal should close around 25M and Everton will strengthen their squad with that money with striker. I think they need the funds... just like us.

Maybe, but with the club's lukewarm send off, the actual timing of the deal suggests strongly that Walker would have been an unnecessary distraction had he come into preseason.

I made a comment a few days ago about our general transfer business this season now feeling like the calm before the storm which was liked by greyfox (he's itk isn't he?). Walker, Fazio, N'Jie; it feels like we're starting to move with incomings too

They can still get compensation next year, hard to guess but based on Danny Ings and Barkley's status it could be £15m+.

I think they'd rather just tell us to f ourselves, than loose face in front of their supporters and the football world.

See Damiao, Berahino Zaha, etc etc etc etc etc.

Think you might be wrong as Barkley turns 24 in December and that is the cut off point for compensation. So next summer, as a 24 year old he could leave for nothing.
