Tottenham have rejected a bid from Fulham to make Wayne Routledge's move to Craven Cottage a permanent one, skysports.com understands.

The 21-year-old is currently on a season-long loan with Fulham and he has obviously done enough to impress boss Chris Coleman.

Coleman is looking to bolster his options, as Fulham look for a top half finish and he feels Routledge's permanent signature would be a boost to his squad.

Other Premiership clubs including Watford are know to be tracking the England Under 21 international, which may well have hastened Fulham's bid.

Spurs are very keen on nurturing young talent and coach Martin Jol may well decide to give Routledge another crack at forging a career at White Hart Lane - but that remains to be seen.

While Fulham are considering their next move with Routledge - skysports.com can reveal that they are close to sealing a move for Jerome Thomas.

The Charlton winger is on his way out of The Valley and Fulham have moved quickly to make their move for the former Arsenal, who is at home on either flank.

i dont know what to make of routledge, i mean i might be able to comment if i'd of seen him play in a spurs shirt, i find it bizarre how spurs pursued him when at palace, why are we not even given him a chance?

He was given a chance & got injured. Since that moment Lennon has been the only player most of us want to see in that role. I don't think Routledge is happy covering for Lennon and I agree with you that it seems pointless hanging onto him if he isn't going to be played much

Because we bought him as a first choice and Lennon as a backup. Then Routledge got injured in his first competitive match and Lennon soon made himself un-droppable.

I like Routledge. He has an excellent cross and is pretty quick. But he gets knocked off the ball too easily and I reckon Lennon's defensive play is now better than Routledge's. although I'm basing that on about 2 sightings of Routledge this year.

It is mad, he has so much potential, he is pace, trickery and a decent right foot - he is still very young and performs very well for England U21. He needs to settle. He played very well in a Spurs shirt against Portsmouth last season, before his injury and I don't know why he hasn't been given further chances.

It's more crazy than people are identifying it as - he is our only other winger and yet every time we need a winger when lennon is injured he is away on loan.

Well I remember him playing very well in the pre-season that we signed him in. He did very well at the Peace Cup and also in the 2-0 win over Reading that i went to at the mad stad. He was SO unlucky to get injured in the opening day win over pompey and then he was too lacking in match fitness to get a good run goin in the side combined with Lennon's rise to prominence.

I say get the boy back in and have him as good solid cover for the right side, maybe even look to put him on the right, Lennon on the left, with Hudd and Steed in the middle. That would be a good midfield for home games I think.

Think it's definately last chance saloon for him, we need to get him back now and have him, Lennon and Steed rotating both flanks. At least that way we have cover for injury and a proper winger as opposed to a defensive midfielder playing left wing!!

reckon this has been rejected so he can be used in part exchange for young. He has always disappointed me in a spurs shirt. he may have looked good in the peace cup friendlys but he has looked shite in the premiership for us and fulham.

Like Rooney you meen who has played almost as many minutes in a Spurs shirt .

He definitely has potential but, to be honest, whenever i have seen him play on loan, at Portsmouth or Fulham, although he has shown the pace and (a bit of) trickery, his final ball, awareness, shots and crosses, have, on the whole, been second rate. Yes, Lennon still has to work on that too but he has shown signs of being a lot more capable of acheiving this. I don't think Routledge will improve the team as it is and i feel bad for him being brought to the club, showing great signs and then getting injured straight away and losing his place to Lennon. Though cover would be good, i would prefer to see him used as a makeweight for a left winger, perhaps Young.

Jenas has done ok on the right in the past when needed and Malbranque showed against Portsmouth he can play there (as could Murphy if needed, though not ideal) so if we had a left winger in Young and Lennon was injured, there would be options. On another note, i would prefer Ziegler was used rather than Murphy/Tainio etc on the left!

I have been disapointed hin him in a spurs shirt i watch one of the preseason games at the lane after teh peace cup and i expected him to take on his oposite number but all he ever did was pass backwards. I know this is only one game and i do belive he has talent but Lennon every time he gets the ball you have a feeling something is going to happen. I have seen him put in some good moments for Fulham. I just dont think he has the Lennon Factor where every time he gets teh ball you expect something to happen and it frequanetly does.

I would like to add now im on a role 4 post on the trot, i was a big ziegler fan when he came he had a bit of pace, seemed strong and he worked hard. But when he got his chance this season he was very poor he kept loosing the ball. I would realy really like to seem him suceed in a Spurs shirt (espescially as it would save us cash) but i just dont think he has quite enough talent. :(

Look there is more to a player than the technical aspects, clearly something is wrong with his attitude. He hasn't really set the world on fire during his loan spells so he has taken a step backwards in his career. Perhaps that can change or maybe we are waiting for a decent offer before we unload him now.

I remember him playing really well for Palace at the lane. I thought he was great signing at the time. Dont think he's had a chance to prove himself. Its silly he is always on loan, we really needed him when Lennon was injured.

Dont think we should give money and Routeledge to Watford for Young, as I cant see that Young is nay better prospect than Routeledge was at Palace.

not gonna let it be five.....!

yeh Ziegler hasn't been that good when he has come in this season but is that not due to the lack of action? How many reserve team games does he play? I think he played at left back against Norwich the other day but whenever i've seen him i've thought of him more as a winger than a full-back. We'll have to see but i guess Jol sees him everyday and i suppose he doesn't see his immediate future on our left flank. Shame as he had a good initial rise to fame - played against France for Switzerland at one point and did well if my memory serves me right...

Young and Routledge may have a similar potential but i'd rather a left footer with that potential who is home on the left (or up front, so knows where the goal is) than a right footer when we have Lennon. We don't have too many left footers (Ziegler, Mido, Gardner, Assou-Ekotto to name a few) that can play on the left wing and look like getting a regular spot so maybe Young would be better
  18. infamousyiddo
Routledge has been unlucky since he has been with us. He got injured fairly early on last season, and since then has found it difficult to find any sort of form. He has been sent to pompey and now fulham on loan, and he hasn't even been a regular for them.

However he is still young (21 i think) and could still have a future at spurs, but rather than keep him on loan we should get him back and stick him in the reserves so we can get a closer look at him and assess him properly.

Id love to have ashley young but not at the prices that are going around (heard watford wanted 9mil). if we wait till summer we could get him for 2-4mil.

Ziegler, ziegler.....another player who showed promise when he first came but due to injury and players been brought in has found it hard to get in the team. I like him but dont think he's a left winger, i see him playing LB in his career.

PS. we got newcastle, manutd, cardiff in cup, ,next round of fa cup (if we get through), league cup semi, uefa cup all coming up soon, happy times....not for my flaming bank balance though lol.

I completely agree with earlier posts suggesting that Jol is keeping Routledge to be offered in part-exchange elsewhere. Found a montage of Routledge's time at Palace on YouTube - some very decent pieces of play:
