Fulham's on-loan winger Wayne Routledge is targeting the busy Christmas and New Year period in which to nail down a regular place.
The Tottenham wide-man was in every Portsmouth squad for the last four months of last season during a loan spell at Fratton Park but made only three starts.
He has begun just five games for Fulham since the start of the current campaign but played a vital role in Monday's 2-1 win over Middlesbrough and is keen to take his chance again at home to West Ham on Saturday.
He also shone in a superb 2-1 win against Arsenal last month when coming on as a substitute at the start of the second half and said: "It was a great night for everyone involved.
"The most pleasing thing was the calibre of the performance. We played the type of football that you are so used to seeing from the top teams and to play like that against a team like Arsenal was all the more special.
"It was a real shame to follow that with defeat at Blackburn and then we took a bit of a battering in the second half at Liverpool in losing 4-0, but I was given a start against Middlesbrough and was happy with my performance."
Routledge was mainly selected because Fulham had horrendous injury problems with skipper Luis Boa Morte, midfield playmaker Claus Jensen, Papa Bouba Diop and Ian Pearce all ruled out.
But of those only Jensen has a good chance of returning this weekend and Routledge told the club's official website: "Of course, I would really like to play more but that is the manager's decision.
"He is always going to do what he feels is best for the club and you have to respect that, but with the amount of games that take place in the Premiership nowadays, especially over Christmas, it is important that you can call upon the squad to bring in players when others pick up injuries.
"I will just keep training hard so that when my chances come I am ready to prove my worth and hopefully keep a place in the team."
But Routledge, who will turn 22 early next month, is not about to sacrifice his Christmas dinner despite the demands of the festive programme.
He said: "Christmas time is a mad period for footballers, but with all our games around London this time (West Ham, Charlton, Chelsea and Watford are the next four) we will, hopefully, get some relaxation time with our families.
"I think the big dinner might be a bad idea, but I'm sure I'll be having something nice come Christmas lunch."
