I think too much emphasis is put on who will replace whom. He wouldn't replace anyone in particular, just adds better competition for places. Not that it will happen anyway so it's a cows opinion. We do need better options in midfield than what we have though. Grealish and RLC offer different qualities to what we have so at least we're looking at the right type of players.

English players aren't being priced that high because they are overhyped. It's because they are home grown, and every side needs to have a quota of them in their squad, so the better ones cost a premium

Where did I say he was being priced that high because he was overhyped? I said he's overhyped because that's what he is. He's not yet proven whatsoever and just because he's an English player with a bit of technique doesn't mean we should be chucking £40m at him.

Got plenty of youth prospects if we're that desperate to fill the quota. Onomah, Skipp, TOB. How about we get rid of the two backup GKs taking foreign slots and spend £40-50m of a limited transfer budget on an actual proven CM rather than a prospect who will only be close to worth more than that in future if he stops getting injured and Poch improves him massively.

At what point does it start to eat away at their credibility with the youth team. It takes the piss. This guy should be a star by now

I'm not one to encourage this kind of behaviour but I wouldn't blame RLC if he got pissed off with these loans and flat out refused to go anywhere next season unless it was permanently and just handed in a transfer request.

Obviously it's better to be a good pro and just do as your told because you're under contract but equally he just started a game for England in a world cup and apparently that warrants being shipped out on loan again to a mid-table premier league side.

I've no idea what Chelsea are playing at.

It's because they're ****s

And when they eventually come to sell him they will demand circa 50m for him, completely pricing him out of a move anywhere, meaning he'll prob just see out the rest of his contract and leave on a free.

RLC signed a 5 yr contract in 2016 until 2021 knowing that Chelsea as a club rarely promote youth players to the first team. He shouldn't be pissed off with his circumstances as that is the payoff with the mega money he was earning. If he had belief in his ability he should have signed a shorter contract on less money which gave he better options.

Ryan Sessignon should be looked at as a case in point by last year signing a 3 year contract at Fulham on considerably less money than he could of earned which gives him the option of moving on earlier if things are not going to plan.

RLC has put himself in this situation by taking money over career.

I'd be getting sick of this if I were him. Not great to know you can get into the England World Cup Squad and your club thinks you're only good enough to loan to a mid-table side.

They've done it before with players like Marin and Remy whose careers have nose-dived and they never recovered. RLC needs to get out of Chelsea before he sinks without trace.

Yeah, it’s more common a discussion in US sports, especially basketball, where it’s all about the money and how the contracts are structured and when they end. Only 1 team actually wins and all the others’ players should make as much money as possible.

I don’t want football to go the same way.

He needed to do what Chalobah did and get out instead of signing a new long contract.

This. As much as it’s easy for us to say what a travesty this is, Chelsea have this as their business model and RLC took the rouble and knew the risks.

Unless he was given reassurances that he would be given a chance in the first team and they just never materialised. No one will ever know outside the people concerned what was said during the contract discussions, it could very well be what you've said above and if so then yeah it's his own fault.

Looks better as an impact sub, don’t see him getting in our first 11, which is academic as we know Chelsea won’t sell to us.

Agree with RLC signing a 5 year contract, but think Sessegnon only signed a 3 year contract because he was 17 at the time and they can't sign longer contracts.
