Wonder if there could be an ‘alternative WC’ hosted by UK/Germany/Spain/US and with all the boycotting nations?

Yes...I like the sound of that better. The US is boycotting the tournament. That's why they didn't show up against Trinidad and Tobago.

In seriousness, the US was talking about hosting a small friendly event this summer with Italy, Netherlands, and Chile but I don't think the talks went anywhere. I'm sure those three nations just want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend this summer never happened, while US Soccer would love to make a quick buck.

If we could convince our nato allies to pull out and have a tournament in england with the us, ukraine (even invite china) call it the glushkov tournament.
Get the tv companies to pull out of any deal to show world cup matches and show the tournament instead. It would really piss on putins party.

See Sol Campbell has piped up comparing May to Hitler for using sport as a political weapon.
I wonder if he'd say the same about when we banned aparthied south africa from sport?

:D Just thinking about England boycotting the World Cup, and Trump and the US showing solidarity with their ally by asking if they can have England's spot...

In no particular order:
  1. Russia's blatant and continued disregard for international diplomacy, not just in terms of invading its neighbours but also basically conducting chemical warfare on British soil putting potentially hundreds of innocent people in serious danger
  2. History (and present) of human rights abuses
  3. Rampant racism and homophobia is not only acceptable there but widely supported. Both of these things are in direct violation of FIFA's list of criteria for "suitable" hosts
  4. Widespread state-backed doping of their athletes in many other sports
  5. Widespread and very extreme hooligan culture which reared its very ugly head at the Euros meaning hundreds of innocent fans were violently attacked with lethal weapons. There have also been direct threats to certain fan groups planning on travelling to Russia and not only do the powers that be refuse to condemn it, they actively support it, even going as far as to take to twitter to cheer on the hooligans while they were hospitalising dads with kids in France. High-ranking government officials even have close ties to certain hooligan groups and one of them even suggested using hooligan fights as some kind of pre-match entertainment.
I'm not in favour of a boycott now because I think it's far too late. The time to boycott this was years ago, now it just doesn't really work as we'd most likely be the only ones doing it. We should 100% boycott Qatar though, not that we will.

To make matters worse, they're using VAR at the World Cup.

The inclusion of VAR in the world cup will make it both horrendous and hilarious.

you can add
6) corrupt bidding process
7) Syria
8) Putin's ego needs to be taken down a peg or two
9) If we withdrew I believe 1 or 2 others might join us
10) Almost certain someone is going to get killed out there

They're all good reasons why they shouldn't have been awarded the world cup, but why should we be the only country to make a stand and miss out?

They're all reasons to boycott but like I said in my other post, I don't think we should boycott now because the ship has long since sailed. They're reasons why we should've boycotted in the first place.

What should've happened is that we, along with Spain, France, Germany etc. threaten to boycott as soon as Russia and Qatar were awarded the tournaments. Now it's far too late and it would most likely be us on our own, which is completely pointless.

Any clues to what the England side will look like? The squad for these friendlies is woeful.

Pickford
Walker Cahill mawson rose
Henderson Dier
Sterling Alli Rashford
Kane

Only 2 centre backs and a good CM away from a decent side I suppose
