Bertrand is actually older than Rose. If nobody comes in with a bid then I would rather give Rose a full pre-season and another chance to be honest.

Exactly, pointless to bring in Bertrand. I would rather see us go for Shaw/Sessegnon as both are younger and have more upside than Bertrand. I know Shaw has struggled at United but he would likely benefit from reuniting wit Poch. To your point, I wouldn't mind giving Rose another preseason to see if he can't regain his form

Surprised people so dismissive of him.

He’s 28 (which is hardly old!) and would do a decent job for us.

I would obviously prefer a fully fit and committed Rose, but remains to be seen if we can get that from him now...

Better players, and better value on the continent.

No thanks

Being 28 is not a reason to shy away from buying him, at that age he can come in do a job for us straight away.

Didn't he kinda destroy us once this season?

I would take him anyway, think he is too good for Saints and is easy a top6 team player. Who would I drop? Rose I suppose if he doesn't prove he can be fit again, ever. If Rose is fully fit, them forget about Bertrand and go with Rose as 1st choice.

But there is not much time left for Rose to prove it, we need bombing leftback/leftwingback in August, whoever he is.

Nothing wrong with having an experienced left back especially one whom at his peak was excellent going forward. My issue with him is he’s had a couple of dodgy injuries in the last couple of years and as per Rose he hasn’t reached the same standards as pre injury. As this is likely to the injuries he’s suffered, given his age he’s unlikely to reach the high standard again.

Signing him would be sending the club backwards IMO. Why would we replace Rose with a player that is older than him and is perceived to be less quality. If we are going to get a new LB, we should be looking at young, elite talent like Telles, Tierney, Gaya, Grimaldo, or even Shaw, not Rose's shadow.

If we keep losing home grown players (eg Rose) then we need to replace with the same. I'd love to scour the continent as well, but we are going to need to buy local as well.

I like him. Is he as good as Rose was at his best? No. Is he better than Rose this season? Yes. The question for me is could Poch improve him? Which he probably could.

It all comes down to money in the end. He's not the best player we can get, but he may be the most cost effective.

Edit.... just seen the article mentions £25m and that he's on £80K a week current wages. I can't see us going for him if those figures are true.

Southampton will want far too much for him for us to sustain any interest we may have in him. They hate us.

Not the right level of quality, we cant sell Rose and bring him in, he is no better than Davies IMO

There are better left backs out there
