Are we?

I don't think Yedlin will be here next season imo
I think he'll surprise us tbh. He's pretty decent at crossing, extremely rapid, his vision and awareness needs brushing though. Many people thought Mason wouldnt even be at tottenham, alas, he's now an essential starter.

The good thing about Fredericks is that he has been defensively good and I don't think Yedlin is going to be that

Whilst Yedlin maybe very fast, Fredericks isn't a slow coach himself, he is a big athletics fan and was one of the fastest guys in london for his age

After the second goal I really did not take a lot of interest in the game-just had it on in the background but Ryan was unexceptional today until the last minutes when he put in an inch perfect cross for the striker who headed against the post with the goalie beaten.

Ryan did the 90 midweek in the 1-1 draw away to Brum but not in the squad today for the home loss v Leeds.
Either he is not fully fit or Boro are avoiding an appearances payment.

Frustrating news with the injury especially with some big games coming up, but could have been a lot worse. Be back out there soon #UTB

In the hospital about to get an injection to sort out this small hamstring problem. Nothing major and supporting the lads from bed #UTB

Thanks for that. Even when "fit" Boro were only playing him once a week. Hope this is not a long term thing.
Fredericks is EPL quality IMO, maybe even good enough for Spurs.

I don't want to come off criticizing here at all, but I don't understand how you can say this about Fredericks given he's played one Europa match for us in a cameo (in which he did do well IMO) but then declare Carroll is not good enough when he has performed very well in multiple EL and EPL matches for us, and has even proven himself on the Prem level with Swansea.

Fredericks is 1st choice RB for Boro who top the table. Championship top clubs are similar standard to EPL. I see "something" in him which makes me believe he could be a useful squad member for Spurs at least.
I am sure Boro would snap him up if he were for sale.
Carroll is not a regular starter for an average EPL outfit. I don't think he is better or even potentially better than what we have got. He doesn't excite me and I will be surprised if Swansea buy him.
But it's all about opinions. Maybe I am wrong about both guys.

Although I only saw him once in the Europa game last season, I like what I saw in him. Very intelligent running and good attacking moves.

What matters is the competition he's facing, not the quality of the team he's in. He's not had to defend against EPL-quality attackers before, while Carroll has held his own against EPL-quality midfields before. Carroll was a regular starter until we made it clear we weren't going to sell him to them and they proceeded to buy Cork, so he shouldn't be faulted for that.

I do like Fredericks fwiw, and I was quite impressed with him in that Europa League cameo. More than his talent, I was impressed with his composure. Most youth debutants play with fear, you can even see it in their body language when they arrive on the pitch. Fredericks came on and played as if it were just another day in the life. Really impressive mental fortitude displayed by the lad.

Carroll has made 9 league appearances for Swansea. Most of those were in January when they were missing Ki and another whom I can't recall. But they really were down to the bare bones squadwise when he played. As soon as they came back he stopped getting game time.

And in that very brief period of time, he was named their "player of the month" and their manager flat out said he'd like to sign him on a permanent, we told them no, and they bought a replacement. You don't think he'd have continued to play given that context were he one of their players?

As far as I can see, Monk said that they could discuss a permanent deal, but only in the summer. I can't see anything suggesting that we rejected a bid or that Cork was a replacement for Carroll. Could the Cork signing not have been down to the fact that they play 4-3-3, but they only had four midfielders before Cork signed (Britton, Carroll, Shelvey, Ki).

They may not have made an offer, but I'm sure they asked. I believe there was even a bit of ITK at the time that they did make an offer, but we said no. Even if the ITK isn't true, I'm sure they at least enquired. And sorry, for me it's no coincidence whatsoever he goes from the performances he was putting in, those words from Monk, to nothing. Put all the pieces in place, do the reasoning, and I've no doubt he was dropped because we told them no.

Or maybe Monk saw Cork as a better option, so decided to put him in the team.

Here are also some quotes from Monk from this month:

http://www.southwales-eveningpost.c...sz-Fabianski/story-26273544-detail/story.html

"I'm disappointed for Tom"
Monk, meantime, says it is too early to say whether Swansea will try to sign Tom Carroll on a permanent basis.

The midfielder is facing a spell on the sidelines after damaging ankle ligaments while on international duty and has been ruled out for between four and six weeks.

Monk says Swansea hope Carroll will play again this season – but acknowledged that he may not be fit before May 24.

“I’m disappointed for Tom,” Monk said. “He has had a problem for a few weeks but he has tweaked it more now and we need to wait and see whether he will be out for two, four, six, eight or 12 weeks, but we are looking for him to get back this season.

“Whether we will then look to take him in the summer, we will have to wait and see. Tom has contributed really well this season, but I haven’t discussed it with him or with Tottenham. That’s something we’ll do towards the end of the season, but for now we are all focusing on the football.”

Looks like he said about the same thing he said in January.

And it's true, I have no basis to rule out that he simply viewed Cork as a superior option. But given those quotes (actually rather suggestive, as most Prem manager's discuss no transfer activity whatsoever, but in there he's gone ahead and stated clear interest), how well he was playing at the time, and the fact he was flat out dropped after that point - and still Monk says he's interested in a move for Carroll? IMO, the evidence points in a different direction altogether.
