Mason extends deal / Doncaster loan

28 July 2011

Share

Ryan Mason has signed a contract extension with the Club until 2013 and joined Championship side Doncaster Rovers on a season-long loan.
The young attacking midfielder made 15 appearance during two spells at the Keepmoat Stadium last season, having previously spent the 2009/10 campaign on loan with Yeovil Town.

If he can nail down a regular place at Doncaster then it could be the making of him.

I was disappointed he did not play more last season, injuries interrupted his stay but given they wanted him back again it seems strange he didn't play more last season. As I recall he made a lot of sub appearances in those 15 games.

half time, has done well, had a poor shot in the first few minutes, he has passed well, and set up doncaster's goal, although it was the deflection who did the hard work.

Good driving run to set up the goal, though it was an ambitious shot that deflected kindly to a teammate. Really hoping this works out for Ryan, as he is the sort of player I would love to see us produce

Looks like he is a better size now. If he can play a full season there then who knows what might happen

BBC :
Doncaster 3 - 0 Tranmere

Doncaster are through to the second round of the Carling Cup after a comfortable home win over League One side Tranmere.
Striker Chris Brown marked his home debut with an early penalty after James Coppinger was fouled.
Brown then set up the second for on-loan Spurs youngster Ryan Mason who buried a low shot from 12 yards.
Mason then became the provider for another summer signing, Kyle Bennett, to round off the win with a lob.

Sounds like a great game for him but came off after about 70 minutes, hope injury is not serious

he said on his twitter today that he was having a scan on it this afternoon. if it was broken he would have had it scanned after the game. more likely to be ligament damage ankle

Would be really gutting for the boy if the injury in a long term one. Sounds like he's started really well there, and got a goal and an assist in the league cup. Promising signs, then the injury :(

Hope he's ok.

Ryan Mason: Injury not as bad as first thought/feared, according to the boy's twitter.

Still "out for a few weeks" though. Out for a 3 weeks/month, would be my guess.

Good luck to the boy, hope he recovers speedily and has a great season.

It's a strange one with this lad as he was supposed to be one of our brightest and I had hopes he would develop into a good no.10 just behind the main forward in a free role - he's listed as an attacking midfielder but was scoring for fun up front in our youth teams.

We've loaned him out and yet given Carroll opportunities in our Europa campaign, I wonder what made us loan Mason out and not Carroll?

How comes Mason wasn't kept for our Europa campaign, especially given our shortages up front?

We probably wanted him to have weekly first team experience. Carroll's only playing every few weeks.

Since being in the Academy, Mason has been unlucky with injuries :

09/10 - Great opening half season with Yeovil (League 1) playing about 26 times and scoring 6 goals before fading and finshed the loan early to return to Spurs for a rumoured muscle/weight building course.

10/11 - Went to Doncaster (Championship) but injured and returned to Spurs within about a month. Re-loaned back to Doncaster but picked up injury again. Total games started in the season 5, with 10 sub appearances. When he played, Doncaster fans rated him highly

11/12 = Return to Doncaster. Started well but then picked up an injury and just returned, so only a handful of games played this season.

Maybe needs a recall to Spurs as he is not playing enough at Doncaster - but only if the Physios can keep him fit would it do any good.
