Tottenham Hotspur prospect Ryan Mason made as many interceptions as his fellow midfielders did combined.

A very intelligent and mature performance more so given it was only his second PL start. Nice blend of tackling, interceptions and harrying combined with good work rate, intelligent movement off the ball and some decent passing that helped maintain our attacking momentum

Early days but he looks the best fit to partner and compliment Capoue in central midfield. Hopefully this can develop into a great pairing

When he plays we play with more tempo and fluidity. He's the reason.

Hope you've recovered from yesterday's disagreements with the couple of the members on the match forum.

I agree with you, there's so many people on here that don't want to be positive about anything that involves Tottenham.

It's a shame really but the negative people seem to be growing on this site and it's getting less entertaining.

Regarding Mason, he's been a godsend for Pochettino, a player who can dictate tempo and pass the ball forward which reflects Pochettino's philosophy.

I think he'll grow into the role and with confidence he'll add a sense of attacking venture into his game.

Do you honestly find the growing negativity surprising, considering it goes exactly in line with our "decline" from champions league quarter final to maybe not getting out of our easy looking Europa league group?

I'm of the notion you take the rough with the smooth and in my time of supporting Spurs we've had more rough than smooth.

I only have an emotional attachment with the club and whatever happens to the club and I have no direct influence to change it so I don't go slagging off the people that do or get too upset if the club isn't going in the direction I wish it too.

I should have tried harder at school or been a world class footballer so I could have had more of an influence.

I'm not saying that's the right mentality, it's just my mentality.

I personally have a feeling that things will improve but taking into consideration the size of our club and the amount of serious competition out there and the capital behind them I see Champions league qualification as a bonus rather than a compulsory.

There's a lot of people on here who who don't respect someone else opinions only because it's different to theirs.

It gets a bit more heated than it really should.

We're all in it for the same reason, our love of THFC, some people seem to forget that.

I think everyone on here respects differing opinions, so long as they are factual. When someone is being economical with the truth just to try and prove their own point of view then they deserve to be corrected. I see nothing wrong with that.

At the end of the day all of us are different. One member on here over the weekend said i "hated" Soldado because i wanted Poch to stick with Ade? I am a Spurs fan first and foremost, and will support the team selected on the day, even though i might not agree with that selection.

Most posters make sense and a good argument, but some simply do not. Get used to it, and at the end of the day there is an "ignore" button you can use.

Looks like we found a "Schneiderlin" without spending upwards of £20M.

I said in the match day thread how he played really well. Kept looking to keep the ball moving in a forward direction and covered a lot of ground. The article however is pants, the journalist states that "He did not create any chances or attempt a shot at goal" i could swear blind that it was his little touch back to Eriksen for the goal which in my book counts as an assist!

Hard to believe, but his been our best CM since Modric. I hope he keeps it up.
EVERY decent team needs a player like Mason in centre midfield - someone who is nippy, good on the ball, can a drop a shoulder and make space, and can pick an intelligent pass. Modric was that player, and, you're right, we haven't had anyone like that since.

It amazes me the number of England managers who think you can win a world cup without a player like Mason in midfield. For the last two world cups we've started with two players in centre mid who are about the standard of another country's centrebacks - Gerrard/Lampard, or Gerard/Henderson. Crazily we've kept players of the quality of Wiltshire and Barclay on the bench. Going back further, Scholes was shunted out to the left. And then everyone wonders why England don't play flowing football.

Thank God Poch knows the value of a little midfield maestro.

He was pretty good yesterday and very good against Arsenal. In the NLD, it was very noticeable that he made breaks ahead of the ball when we had possession and it was a huge breath of fresh air. That wasn't so noticeable yesterday - maybe that was instruction or the opportunity didn't arise - but he did well nonetheless.

If he can become a box-to-box midfielder and not a water-carrier who stands in front of the center halves, it'll be progress toward more upbeat footy. I'm not sure it helps to be calling him the new Gerrard or the new Modric or whatever. If he just keeps up the positive play and doesn't hide behind conservative passing and positional play, he'll do fine. And the sky's the limit for him if we improve under Poch and he remains a driver of that improvement.

When it came to the second substitution, it was Eriksen who came off, not Mason. I think that shows how much confidence Pochettino has in him. It's also worth noting that MP has been attending the U18 and U21 games. I think that he may tone down the Bielsa football for the present squad, but will groom the youngsters to play that style. Unlike Southampton, we won't necessarily need to sell.

I think that was Chadli.

I was sitting in south upper for the game just behind the goal and there was one lovely pass he made in the second half to Eriksen I think it was. Ryan was centre of the goal and about 25 yards out, he was looked dead centre of the goal as if going to pass to Ade or someone else in the box, instead he hooked his right foot round the ball and lofted it out left to Eriksen who was waiting for it on the wing and in a shit load of space whilst still looking down the middle of the goal, completely bamboozling everyone. Loved it.

Saw that. Very Modric / Carrick / Gascoigne-esque.

It's only surprising if you don't share the sense of entitlement that you unfortunately have.
