Terrible news. Whether you think he was ultimately good enough or not, I personally think you can say he was a pretty major figure for that time where the club was in a bit of a rut and needed a change in culture and attitude. Mason earned a place with 100% commitment, putting everything he had into the 90 mins, and at times running through brick walls for the team. One of those who in those early stages symbolised what Poch was trying to instill. He, however briefly, did his bit and played a part.

Hopefully he makes a full recovery first of all, and then can come back from this. Had such rotten luck with injuries.

Wish the lad well. Love his character and miss him at Spurs. I hope his injury isnt too serious and that he is back again soon.

Didn't stop him celebrating his goal! His first thoughts should have been for the bloke in the ambulance.
There's no way he could've known it wasn't just a precaution. He's a professional and shouldn't be blamed whatsoever.

the pic below shows the weakest part of the skull, which is about where he got hit judging from the photo in the mirror

Surgery on the skull/brain is very serious. It could well be the end of his career but all that matters is that he recovers and is able to have a life.

Absolutely agree, at times like this football pails into insignificance. His health and welfare are what's most important right now.

But he may well be fighting for his life. The surgery might have been removing part of his skull because of brain inflammation and "stable" might mean he's in an induced coma.

Did you read the statement? And did you understand it? Im gonna assume no. Surgery on the skull. He has a skull fracture. Do you have any idea how serious that is?!?

There is nothing in that statement that leads me to believe the situation is as critical as the mirror reported. We'll know for sure tomorrow, but Hull's social media team will have done a very bad job if that proves to be the case.

Doesn't it say we expect him to be in hospital for the next few days. Sounds like the op was minor and they want to keep him in for 72 hours for observation.

If he was in a coma then they wouldn't be putting time frames of a few days on it, I doubt they would put any time frame on it at all.

Yeah, that was my take as well.

There was no intent to harm of course but, after watching it a few times, in my opinion Cahill was reckless. Clash of heads usually happen when the players don't see each other but Cahill had it all out in front of him, ran in at full pelt and didn't pay due care and attention to his opponent, especially as the height of ball meant Mason was going to get to it first. Though as I said, it wasn't his intention to harm, but in my opinion he's been reckless with his head as a player can be with their feet when they go sliding in.

it sounds to me like he got a craniotomy to evacuate a hematoma. I wouldnt call that "minor" at all though in a healthy young male you'd expect a fast recovery.
