There have been times when Ryan Mason has made an instant impression. Micky Hazard knew it when he first saw him play aged seven.

To me he's looked tired recently and needs resting, I personally don't think he's played brilliantly he's just put a lot of effort in.

He needs to be more of an attacking threat for him to keep his place. He's got it in his make up but hasn't showed much of it yet, bar the Carling Cup but I think there's plenty of potential there.

Looks a promising solid player but sensation may be going a bit far. My onion of course.

I think he, alongside Bentaleb are quite rightly playing ahead of any of our other central midfielders.

I honestly believe those two could be our central midfield pairing for years.

His performances have waned slightly the last few games, but his work rate has been outstanding and is what seperates him from Dembele et al.

Hmm, I have a few issues with this article.

Firstly, can 16 years and 'overnight' sensation really be used in the same sentence?

and second, could they really not find a picture of Dembele in a Spurs shirt after several years here??

Oh, and also the stats shown in the article, 13 goals in 91 games, will hopefully quieten down those who still seem quite focused on being a goalscoring attacking mid, this clearly shows he is not that type of player and is more of a 'box-to-box' player as referred to in the article.

Has fizzed out a bit but not really surprising considering he went from barely making the bench to automatic starter. In the main though I think he has done well but would benefit from playing in a midfield 3 or with a midfielder who is more defensive like Stambouli.

This merely highlights the frustration of why the fu*k we have wasted wages on a Director of football to go out and sign the likes of Paulinho when we have a better version sitting in our reserves... Surely as a DOF you would understand what quality we have coming through the ranks, and I'm sure if we had saved the 16m we wasted on Paulinho we could have gone out and signed some decent defenders for decent money.

Dembele needs to be shipped out ASAP also while he still has some re-sale. To think he thrives when thinking about his transfer to Real Madrid beggars belief... He wouldn't start for Hull let alone Madrid!

As for Mason, very impressive. I really enjoy watching him and Bentalab in midfield for Spurs, I just wish Eriksen was playing a little bit in front of them centrally also!

i think we signed Paulinho because AVB wanted him. i very much doubt he was a Baldini signing. in my opinion, Baldini signings were Lamela and Chiriches.

as for Mason - i agree that he needs a rest. i also think that talent wise, our best two Cms are Bentaleb and Dembele. getting them to consistently perform is the tough part, but i would hate to see Dembele leave.

Top lad and great to see him playing consistently. One of the few players in the squad that actually looks to pass forward and do something interesting.

I hope so too. Him being Spurs through and through might want to stay. But Bentaleb not having grown up as a Spur, might find other offers more tempting in future. Of course I hope I'm wrong and he would repay us giving him the chance by sticking with us.

think what frustrates and the most is that Mason shouldn't be getting all this attention if we didn't sell Sandro.... MP thot that we didn't need a ball winner.... and one day he threw him in and we suddenly get someone willing the ball back, not just "close down" and "hope for a mistake".

Fine, Mason is better at the attacking half then Sandro.... but i we have had much much better ball winners at the Lane like Palacios and Parker... hopefully the time he spend with those great defensive midfielders will have rub off on him.

at the moment, he is the best we got, still pissed we let a good ball winner go, but i wouldn't mind see us bring in another ball winning midfielder.

What has Mason got to do with Sandro? Bentaleb, Stambouli and Capoue are more Sandro types. Bentaleb has potential to eclipse the beast based on his allround game. All these players are generally fit and available for most of the season as well compared to Sandro.

Bentalab and Capoue are defensive midfielders. They cover the back 4. Stambouli is more of a deep lying playmaker. Sandro was the only ball winning midfielder we had. Maybe Capoue can put in a good tackle... But we do not have a natural combative player the likes of Parker and Palacios. Well till Mason.

Stambouli is exactly that. Capoue is similar
