Always loved Ryan, followed him from when he began making waves with the youths, glad to see there's a light at the end of this tunnel of this horrible injury as he deserves his career more than most.

Finally got the clip to listen to (almost 50 mins of segment, talked about his recovery and head injury in general around 30 min to 40 min, and the winks part came in around 46 min):

Saw him on the debate last night. Was slightly surprised how he responded when asked about winks. There Defo seemed a hint of “Well he ain’t any better than me”although he obviously didn’t say that ,but that was the vibe I got.Which is fair enough, winks 4 years younger than him.He probably still thinks what might have been.

I was actually pretty appalled to see this comment yesterday so I've been trying to find the clip. I'm glad I did cause I do not get that vibe at all -- now I can see where you were coming from though as when Winks was mentioned, as spurs fans we'd expect him to be a lot more embracing towards a fellow spurs youth player under this circumstance, yet there's no 'congratulation' or 'I'm happy for him' from Ryan, but a rather cool and very objective way to stated that English players in top 6 who gets regular time would or should get a chance nowadays, which is very fair I think. From how he responded you might think they don't know each other.

All in all he kept it very objective, as a panelist should through out the segment; but I do find his response to Winks can come off a bit too detached, given his Spurs background - yet nowhere did I find him to be that bitter, that's too extreme a take for me.

Winks and Mason totalled different kinds of player for me.

Mason is an attacking midfielder (who also played centre forward and was very prolific for our youth sides) who could also play deeper.

Winks is a more defensive / box to box midfielder.

Mason was not really an attacking midfielder when he broke into the side. He's box to box, classic box to box with a lot of steal though, lots of tough tackles. WInks is like a fusion between Mason and Tom Carroll.

I so want to read that he has started playing again; definitely a premier league player, I hope he can recover.

Mason is a really good bloke who actively was interested in the younger players when he was at spurs, lets be honest his bloody unlucky with injuries, and it must be hard to see winks come though.

Let’s wish him good luck and congrats on the baby. I hope he comes back from this and has a great career he Deserves it.

I'd have liked to have seen Ryan stay at Spurs a bit longer - he was slightly unlucky in that our CM was a bit all over the shop when he broke through (which is partly what gave him his chance) and he ended up playing a lot of games in less than ideal partnerships.

It would've been nice to have seen what he was capable of had he been able to play a period of games alongside Wanyama, for example, or Dier. As the more expansive and attack-minded CM with a reliable defensive CM partner I think he could've shone.

I agree. It still makes me sad that he's not at Spurs. Such a shame for him that injuries came so frequently. But fair play to him for wanting to make the most of his career and play regularly. Poche wanted to keep him, but he wanted to be first XI somewhere. Still so gutted about his injury, hopefully he'll make it back soon. So glad there's been a positive end to the year for him.

Yeah would have been good to see him with a defensive midfielder alongside him - I think he started alongside Dier against Stoke and pretty much ran things from midfield until he got injured during that game.

I've just been looking through his Twitter feed and you wouldn't know that he doesn't play for us anymore. Nearly all his football tweets are about us. Hull barely get a mention.

Breaking News on SSN, has had to retire. Poor lad, so unlucky and unfortunate for him, hope he can go into something else that he can enjoy.

Absolutely gutting.

Loved the lad - good player, great pro and wonderful mentality.

A huge part of implementing this upward trajectory for us.
