OLIVER SHOULD CUT GOALSCORERS SOME SLACK

Michael Oliver, for me, is the best young referee around. But I thought he went over the top in booking Tottenham Hotspur’s Nacer Chadli for cupping his hand to his ear after equalising against Arsenal. Yet hours earlier on Merseyside, Martin Atkinson did nothing when Steven Gerrard did the same. Quite right, too. When the adrenalin is pumping cut them some slack.

Eh?

Otherwise, glad he agrees about Oliver being a complete twat in that particular moment.

In The Times today, he says he may not have got a chance under previous managers. That will upset some on here with their Redknapp fixation, but they will be OK if they ignore the plural and imagine that he only meant AVB.
The Times match report was ludicrous in its assertion that Arsenal were excellent; in fact, most of the article was about them. I think Dickinson must be a Gooner.

I wouldn't call myself Redknapp fixated or anything, but I do think one of the best things he did as manager was to abandon the reserve team in favour of the loan system and Development Team setup, has paid fruit thus far I think in terms of we've seen far more youngsters kick on in their careers, even for those like Livermore who haven't stayed with us.

Love to see a footballer who always has his head up looking around him before he even gets the ball. Not as common as you might expect.

I agree that England recognition should mean the player is one of the best, but I put such little weight as to what the FA tell Roy to do that I am really not fussed. It's not international football - just the godawful mess that is the England set-up.
