If we can’t afford him, we are simply no longer in the game.
'Simply' no one might be at that price though and they may need to amend their terms - that was the point I was trying to make.

The problem with this is that our way of challenging the big money teams has, in the past few years, been by astutely finding young English talent. Walker, Rose, Alli all examples of this.

However, if we're going to get priced out of these sort of moves, too, then I struggle to see where we fit in terms of finding an advantage ahead of the clubs who are simply willing to spend more than we are.

Tricky.

If we are to be priced out of buying young English players then I believe we will turn to youngsters from Europe or European Leagues.

perhaps if we didn't mess about trying to get the very last penny out of smaller clubs we would get some of the targets before the bigger clubs are interested... We knew we wanted the player 18 months ago and should have offered Fulham a generous deal before he signed professional forms...

young potential stars can be got but we need to change our strategy

FFS. I don’t know how many tines this has been said but he rejected all the big clubs when he signed pro forms. He just didn’t want to move at the time.

But but it must be Levy’s fault !!! We mustn’t miss an opportunity to knock Levy even if the facts tell a different story.

This is the thread I pay most attention too as he would be such a good acquisition.

I'm thinking better further forward like Bale was for us though as left-back or left wing-back would perhaps curb his attacking play a bit too much.

Would be nice to have some actual proper pacey wide attackers at our disposal for once.

I am wondering if Malcom/Sessegnon are an "either/or" situation...would it be redundant to sign both?

we offered Fulham 25 million last summer which is a good offer for a player just turned 17. They rejected the bid.

Hopefully our academy will be able to produce players on a regular basis who can be just as good

Just in case he signs, I'm going to say about Sessegnon what I once said about Gareth Bale.

He's obviously a left back and anyone who says otherwise is just a ninny.

I would hope not as Malcolm is right side and Sessegnon left?

Well I think Malcolm is right side, don't quote me on that though.

It's irrelevant. They play where the manager tells them to. They're both left footed.
