had a stroke of luck. It turns out that the outbound flight is not cancelled but only the return is. I was able to switch the return for free and come back on a flight 6 hours later than I had planned so not too bad.

This will be the last time I use these ****s though. Had a sleepless night because of it.

Now for my next issue, I need to get some tickets for the game :sneaky:

We had plenty in the home end in 2011, think their games usually go on general sale so I'm hoping to get some when they go on sale. Been checking their website every day but hasn't updated for on-sale dates yet

But if anyone's, who will get tickets through the club, flight was cancelled and they're not going, I'll happily take 3 tickets :whistle::whistle:

Madrid home tickets:

Real Madrid - Tottenham: Season ticket holders: Thursday 21st of september at 12h. Club members: Tuesday 26th of september at 10h. Madridistas: Friday 29th of september at 10h. General Public: Monday 2nd of october at 10h.
Match tickets can only be purchased online.

Anyone going for home end tickets as a safety net if they don't get away tickets? Think I can risk Gen sale on 2nd October or buy a Membership for 29th September

People get why easyJet is so cheap yeah?

I find it bizarre the complaints about stuff like having to pay for allocated seating. You know the rules when you buy the ticket, and I believe this has changed. But anyway, as was: pay the £15 if you have kids you need to be with. If you won't 'on principle', that's a shitty principle, to fly them on a shitty airline then pretend it's BA. BA costs more because of all the things that EJ charges you for. It's like a triple A video game vs micro transactions.

EJ are pretty upfront about what fresh hell it is to fly with them. And I've never found it anything but - however, sometimes budget/necessity calls.

The actual running of the airline and flights, mind, is a whole other ball game.

has anyone else been affected by cancelled flights to Madrid? I was supposed to be flying out on the early morning flight on the day of the game.

Just received a message to say the flight has been cancelled
Not sure if it will be us

Not sure if this will help you but these EU Regulations relate to both Delays and Cancellations. We got 600 Euro compensation each for a 9 hour delay from Gatwick

Same as us. 6am out of Stanstead was ok, 6am from Madrid now changed to 1pm

I have a very different opinion of Ryanair to most. I use them regularly to fly between the UK and Poland, and find they generally are a no frills but incredibly cheap way to travel.
A few points people complain about:
All seating is now allocated, though you must pay extra if you want to choose your allocation yourself.
Kids are always allocated next to an adult now.
All suitcases must now go in the hold with only small bags allowed in the cabin (this was previously my only bugbear). Small suitcases are free and large still attract a fee.
You really don't have to buy food and drink on the plane - you're only on there for an hour or so, and it should hardly come as a shock. If you really need it take some with you from the terminal.

I generally pay less than £40 for a return to Wroclaw and think they are a bargain - it costs more than that to get to the airport and back from kent............what we should all be complaining about is the cost of airport parking!

I worked for easyjet for 4 years and they genuinely do care about customer service. But when you fly the only actual easyJet staff that you will come into contact with are on the aircraft. Everyone else works for ground agencies like Swissport and are just wearing EJ uniforms.
Most of the complaints are about the check in experience or luggage. And although easyJet puts pressure on these companies to ensure that they hold the values of good customer experience it doesn't always come across.
As for the guy that got his kids split from him, you can check in 30 days in advance of your flight where you can check your seats. If you don't like the ones pre-allocated to you then you can can pay to choose others. Alternatively the cabin crew are meant to try to keep families together, but that ultimately relies on other kind travelers being willing to swap seats with you.

I used to work for an online travel agency.

A lot of the complaints against Easyjet and Ryanair are nonsense. You know what you are getting with them. You get a cheap flight but that's it.

If you need seating together you pay extra, if you are too stupid to print off your own boarding pass you pay extra and guess what, if you book for a family by the time you pay the extras it might have been just as cheap to go with a better airline.

When you book with these airlines you are taking a risk. There was a story about a guy having a wedding in Slovakia, I think, who has had his trips cancelled.

Nightmare for him and the guests but frankly they should have booked with a proper airline for something so important.

Nowadays I am on board with just paying the extra when I have the option. Not sure the cheap way we try to do everything nowadays is a good thing.

CAA guidelines state that families should not be seperated for the reasons stated elsewhere in this thread, parents looking for children impede others from getting to emergency exits so in effect these airlines are charging extra for applying industry guidelines, they're more than willing to put squeezing an extra bit of profit in front of safety.

I was listening to the Ryanair boss the other day trying to justify why they shouldn't have to pay the legitimate charges they have to when their planes are late or cancelled, the gist of his argument was "You know our average flight price is £40 so why are you a ticket where we may have to pay you £240 if the flight is delayed? That's not fair on us". I'll ask him the question in another way- You know your average flight price is £40 so why are you entering into a contract where you may have to pay £240 if the flight is delayed? The answer to that question is that you're still making money overall, you're screwing your staff down to shitty contracts, you're cherry picking which parts of the law and passenger's T&Cs you adhere to and when you are in the wrong you never pay up and look big.

I have a double whammy, I flew Ryanair (in fairness they performed well) to Dublin last weekend from Luton. Luton is the shittiest airport in the UK, it's a miserable experience flying out of there-they'd rather nick a penny extra from you rather than provide any kind of quality of service.

I first flew with BEA in 1967, the whole experience was entirely different, my flight was delayed by two hours and we got silver service meals in a proper restaurant, that would be regarded as first or club class nowadays I'm sure, I think we're all partly to blame though if we partake in the race to the bottom. My choices are Ryanair from Luton to Dublin (I live in Dunstable) for forty quid or BA/Aer Lingus to Dublin from Heathrow forty miles away for twice the price, guess which one I chose. I'm part of the problem it seems.

I still think Michael O'Leary should be made a Count because in many people's eyes he already is one.
