So it seems our final offer met their requirements but Peace turned it down because it was so late, even though they had already signed Rondon as a replacement. Seems like he was just trying to prove he's a tougher negotiator than Levy.

Personally I think this saga highlights everything that you need to know about Levy. On one hand he will try his very best to get the cheapest deals he can for the players that the manager wants. He is not afraid to lose out on that player if the price / deal structure is not on his terms.

For me he fails to see the bigger picture. Poch has clearly identified Berahino as the striker he wants, Berahino desperately wanted the move, but yet again Levy fu**ed up and failed to deliver.

I do a lot of business deals and the main thing that makes them go smoothly is that both parties must benefit from them for the deal to go through. To offer £5m upfront with 3 hours of the deadline to go is a joke.

We could probably of got Berahino for £20m if Levy had said here is £10-12m upfront and the balance is made up over the next 'x' years plus potentially some add ons for international appearances etc. This could of meant that WBA get their money (a large % up front) and we get our striker......all parties are happy, but no, Levy once again tries to show everyone that his balls are bigger than the next man but as usual he fails to deliver on what his manager wants and what the club and the team clearly needs.

Levy assumed that Rondon was a replacement.
He assumed a sulking player would force Peace's hand.
He didn't realise clubs like WBA don't need to sell anymore due to the TV money they receive.
He played games with our 1 main transfer target & it backfired.
He may well have upset his coach big time.

And hats off to Mr Peace by the way. He knew Levy's tactic of leaving it to the last minute, he let him play it and stayed strong.

Yeah, he's real clever. He has one really happy player on his books.

Appears to me that in a way of thinking Levy's become like that guy who's the biggest guy in the club & who other tough guys therefore want to take out in order to prove that they got bigger swinging balls.

Peace hasn't done WBA any favours and Levy has failed (again) due to his over estimated belief that he can strong arm anyone. After the failure to get Schneiderlin and the animosity it caused you'd think he might have re-evaluated his approach, but no. Peace is undoubtedly a belligerent character with a similar ego to Levy. Not a good recipe for negotiating. No plan B was arrogant in the extreme.

I still can't get over the reported offer of £5m up front and numerous instalments! And Levy probably wonders why he is seen as a joke figure by 99% of football chairmen and why nobody wants to deal with him.

Still, a familiar story, shouldn't be surprised by now.

Ah, you mean he should have simply bent over and let Levy call the shots. and wait patiently for the monthly instalments of £2,000...

If you read from people who know about these things, pretty much 99% of deals are paid in instalments. Levy's not done a huge amount wrong here despite what people think/hope.

I'm not suggesting they aren't but if reports are to believed and a £5m offer upfront with ten minutes of the transfer window remaining for West Brom to find a replacement, it reeks of arrogance beyond belief.

Levy has said, and many others, that transferes are nearly always done in instalments. So if we buy Berahino of 25 mill over a 5 year contract, we pay West Brom 5 Million per year. This is comepletely normal. And is why people like to say Real Madrid still 'owe us' for Modric and Bale

With ten minutes of the window remaining?? That's fair on West Brom is it?? If there were two previous bids made before, it was clear Spurs wanted him. Then to make a third and final offer an hour before the window closes and then, when that is refused, make a fourth with about ten minutes to go hoping to rinse West Brom in desperation - fair play to them for refusing to bow to the wishes of this petty little man.

So Peace was hoping that Levy would hand him over £25m in cash at some motorway service station. Naive man!

And fucked himself, his manager, his team and his player in the process.

Yeah well done Mr Peace (y)

Why have a player that wants to go somewhere else. This really shows how professional Modric was, he is in another class to Berehino though. In saying that Modric was nearing his peak years.
